Its not official but still damn cool.

ARRRRRR!!!!

As reported in our past news, there is a PSTwo USB Loader coming very soon to on-line vendors including our affiliate Linker4U.com! Similar to HD Advance, this remarkable utility will allow users to install and play PS2 games from any external USB HDD on the new slimline PSTwo console at excellent speeds! We will post more details as soon as our sample arrives for REViEW here in our Site News, and those interested can check out the PS2Ownz.com exclusive USB-Loader screenshot below. Enjoy!

Won't work with iPod, since it's not recognized as a mass storage device in Windows (or anywhere else) and needs propreitary drivers/apps. However my iRiver is!! That'd be hot.

... as long as it requires no formatting whatsoever. :P

Say what? I don't recall installing anything to get Windows to use my iPod as a storage device... (as in, showing up like a HD in the Control Panel).

Do you got a new iPod or sth? Maybe it was was changed with the 3rd Generation. Last one i tried was a 2nd gen. Or was it that you need to go through iTunes to make the iPod recognize the MP3s (as opposed to simply moving them on the drive)? Maybe i mixed that up.

In either way, it sure is gonna happen :)

I just looked it up, iPod works just like all other mass storage devices. Just that MP3 thing needs to go through iTunes because it's database driven. Now all Apple needs to make is black iPod with blue lights to match the PStwo :)

I have a 3rd Gen iPod. I think it was the 3rd gens where they started formatting them for Windows computers. Before then you had to do some tricks to get it to be formatted/recognized by programs if you were using a PC. I just plug it in and WindowsXP recognizes it as an iPod and assigns it a drive letter and everything.

Anyways, this HD Loader sounds awesome especially if it works with an iPod :D

Hot damn, if this thing really works with iPod, I'm buying PSTwo and the iPod with the biggest HDD without thinking!! :lol

My main beef with the iPod is that it's so single functionally oriented, and costs a lot for just music playback - and this would definitely make it a tad bit more useful :)))

When using the iPod, keep two things in mind. It's a minihard drive designed specifically for the iPod. It is NOT 7200 RPM and it is not as durable. Also, running an ipod without a charger (Is the USB port powered?) will kill the battery.

I wouldn't expect anyone to actually buy a iPod just for the mere purpose of running PS2 games off it, but the thought of it is just funny

When is that Sony 64MB Mem card supposed to come out? I remember seeing something about it awhile ago.

My ipod didn't come with a USB connector :/

Now I heard it won't be a 64MB memory card, rather a ??GB USB drive...
*shrugs*

Either would do, i suppose. As long as it doesn't cost too much $$$
Suprisingly, Datel has a 64MB and a 32MB PS2 memory cards out for sale already in stores(I haven't seen the 64MB ones yet) and this time they don't require any software to boot up before use. Yes, it still says during a memory card access menu for games "Now checking 8MB Memory Card(PS2)" but hey, I have the 32MB one and it works great. The 32MB one goes for $34.99 and the 64MB one for $49.99. Got my 32MB one for $19.99 off BestBuy.com on sale a week ago :D

If this is truly USB2.0, it would be

1.) Trick or treat elite
and
2.) Puzzling as to why there is no official Sony HDD for FFXI

2.) Puzzling as to why there is no official Sony HDD for FFXI
All the HDLoader-type software works by literally hacking the games (specifically, the IOP DVD driver modules). As far as the games are concerned, they still run off "DVD".
There is no other way to make existing games work from HDD(internal, USB, or any other type), and to put it mildly, it would be difficult for Sony to officially endorse that type of product - USB2.0 or not.

Well, they could have just decided that supporting games like FFXI is not worth the cost of dealing with piracy. There's likely to be a lot more pirating with an official HDD product out there than without.

The lack of HDD marketing is not because of piracy. It's because they don't have a clue. HDD was launched almost 2 years before FFXI came out, it had quite a bit of support for cutting down loading times too. But Sony, for some reason, didn't push it to developers or consumers. The price of the HDD in Japan is frankly ridiculous. It's about twice the price of the US version and it doesn't even come with FFXI bundled.

Had they used an aggressive approach, like the US FFXI bundle, they could have sold a lot more, and gained more developer support in the process. Now it's almost like they're trying to forget they even launched it.

iPod mini is recognised as a mass storage device. but 4GB is useless for this :P

I wonder if it would be possible to make any future system compatible with an external HDD, as long as the console has USB/Firewire ports. I mean with the PSTwo you're basically taking any HDD and using it with a system never intended to use a HDD at all.

This sounds awesome. Running games off my iRiver will fucking rock. :)

Good thing I just bought a mini-sync charge cable from Boxwave. Awesomeness.

EDIT - I just tried plugging my iRiver into the USB port on pstwo and it does indeed charge, but only when the PStwo is on, not when in standby. Boo-erns.

On Play-asia they say their PSP USB charger can be used on the PS2s USB port to charge, will the PStwo have to be turned on to charge for that as well?

I'd finally be able to get rid of my older unit and get a slim model if this works with HDD/USB Enclosures....

My 60gb iPod photo is recognized in Win XP Pro as a mass storage device merely by plugging it into my firewire or USB ports. No drivers or software required, to my knowledge.

Yes. Sounds like the PS2 is powering down all ports during standby with the exception of the remote wakeup command.

DarienA don't do it, or keep a air conditioner near by. The new PS2's are nice but without a fan onboard those things run real hot. We've gone thru one replacement at our store. I would keep your big model PS2 if your getting the new PStwo just for a backup. You'll be pissed if that PSTwo drive quits reading your games.

PSTwo USB port = USB 1.1 unfortunately.

Yeah, it could work for backing up saves on HDD or playing small homebrew apps or emulators, but it would be totally impractical/impossible for commerical games.

I bought a 32meg too last week at EB for $35. It's an excellent card. About time we get a bigger card that doesn't need a boot disc.

well, it looks like the PSTwo HDD problem has been solved...

the hard way...

40+ point solder job to rebuild an IDE interface...

:lol :lol :lol

the PS2 Scene is unstoppable it seems...
