Psychonauts 2 Has Gone Gold

Andy Samberg Thats Cool GIF

Never even played the first but from what I've seen of this I'm excited to give this a go on my Series X. The game looks great and it's on Game Pass so why not?

Felt like this day would never come. Can't wait until the 25th.

Sounds like the extra money and time from MS helped makr the game bigger and better than Double Fine was going to be able to do on thier own.

Man, the first was such a gem (minus the Meat Circus), one of the most creative 3D platformers ever, especially in the later levels.

The guy who had issues with squirrels was the only funny parts that I can recall of the original. Reminds me of the monkey and Chris from Family Guy.

Looks like a lot of love and time has gone in to this. I think it'll get an 88 MC. Can't wait to play.
Too quirky and janky to please the journos who value polish over everything (to the point where devs polish off all the edges and the game bores me to death). I expect low 80s.

This is like poor man's R&C Rift Apart, right?

Just asking, never played the series.
It's a 3D platform action game similar to the Ratchet series, and other such games. I wouldn't call it a poor mans anything considering the critical and fan reception the first game received.

6 years in the making and even longer since I first beat the first one. Just replayed #1 and Rhombus of Ruin can't wait to be tossed back into this universe.

No more than R&C is a poor man's Mario. Like both games have a jump button and new attacks you can unlock but that's about it.

Psychonauts has a lot more story, character and world building, some light adventure game elements, and a mind-bending surreal setting. They're not that similar.

He can't respond because he was banned for that shit post.

Something I've always wondered: is this game low-key about psychedelic drugs or what? The name kind of makes it seem that way...

Im playing the first now for the first time. Zero nostalgia.

This game is a damn masterpiece. Still totally holds up today. I didnt realize this game did the Mario galaxy gravity flipping trick first. The story and characters are great. Some of the best bosses in a platformer ever like the lungfish battle which almost reminds me a vr platformer camera 15 years ahead of its time. If part 2 lives up to the level of part 1 or greater this game could be the most underrated game since The Ascent.
Its totally worth it to play part 1 now. Its great.

Psychonauts 2 has a lower budget sure, but if the first game is anything to go by, then it will have vastly superior voice acting, writing, Gameplay and all round creativity.

I started watching a let's play of the new R&C (Radbrad, he seemed bored), but when you get past the decent budget, the game just comes across as uninspired and dull, it's was the epitome of generic I'd say.

Psychonauts 2 is a crowdfunded indie game for the most part, so expectations need to be tempered, but from I've seen, it just oozes charm and ingenuity and has a giant hub and many very different worlds to explore.

I'd take that over a linear shooter (that is literally on rails a lot of the time) with uninspired guns, some flashy set pieces, a pretty lick of paint and fast loading to new linear worlds (which is cool and all, but gets old when you realise it's all scripted.) It was highly overrated imho.

I know which one people will be talking about 10 years from now.

Don't waste your time, he already got banned for that drive-by shitpost.

It looks like a lot like the first one with better graphics. That's not a bad thing. Looks like it has all the imagination and zaniness that the first one had.

I played through the first one back when it first released on PC (when they still made disk releases for PC) and enjoyed it. Was replaying it on PS4 and got as far as the boss fight in Gloria's Theater (roughly the 75-80% point), then Ghost of Tsushima's DLC unlocked, so I'm playing through that now. I doubt I'll be going back to finish the first one (PS2 on PS4 leaves a lot to be desired), I'll just move on to the new one once I finish GoT.
