Console Service Update: Current-Gen Transition and End of Old-Gen Support

Hello, players.

PUBG: This is the Battlegrounds team.

Today, we're excited to share some important news regarding PUBG's console service. As we mentioned in our PUBG 2025 roadmap released last March, we've been preparing for the transition to current-generation consoles.

And on November 13th, PUBG Console will switch to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S .

The transition to current-generation consoles is part of a necessary update to adapt the game to the current-generation devices. This decision was made to provide players with a better gameplay experience and facilitate smoother support for future updates. This transition will allow players to experience improved visuals and more stable frame rates on console platforms. Furthermore, we anticipate alleviating memory shortage issues, which have been causing many players to experience crashes.

With the transition to the current generation, support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will end.

Oh this game still exists
I forget that the game is still as big as it is.

I have over 1000 hours in it ever since the alpha, and PUBG holds some of my favorite multiplayer moments of all time. I've wanted to go back a couple times but I refuse to play through the force tutorial and bot matches.

That garbage game is to blame for the decline of the video game industry.
The only way you could blame PUBG is that it ultimately is what made Fortnite change from a survivalish game to a BR. Fortnite is the cause of what a lot of us hate about modern gaming.

PUBG wasn't something new (ARMA BR existed prior) but it was the first real BR game, and I still think is the best BR we've gotten and ever will get. Most of these BR games have no real drama. Being in the top 10 in a PUBG match was exhilarating.

PUGB is the goat when it comes to BRs and I am going to throw another one out there I really enjoyed both the BR side and even the survival side (until they made changes) H1Z1

Soon as bots were added, I was done. Just the mention of it turns me off games

Can't stand that shit in multiplayer games. If you're going to add shitty bots, just make it single player.

For sure. Battle Royale for me needs to feel like I'm actually losing something at the end of the match if I'm not taking the victory. Stuff like Fornite and Warzone don't have any of the suspense that PUBG was so good at.

I stopped playing around the time they started taking inspiration from Fortnite and putting some dumb ass skins in there.

To this day, no game got my blood pumping like solo PUBG. I haven't played in sometime, but some of the greatest moments I have ever had in gaming, have been in PUBG.

What do you think Fornite: Battle Royale was based off? BR was a last gasp effort when Save the World flopped.

The amount of goofy shit Fortnite has brought to the games industry with it's overly saturated look, ridiculous collabs, shitty MTX system, etc. I'd say it had more of a negative effect than PUBG. That all came because it's Epic and Fortnite, not PUBG.

That's the rotten root. If it hadn't come along, Fortnite probably wouldn't have been a success ... Or it would be normal game.

But then that PUBG thing came along and ruined everything.

Before and After the 'upgrade' to the new gen, basically shadows and better draw distance.

It's getting a huge overhaul at some point in the next year I think. There was a dev diary talking about moving to a new engine with destruction and way better visuals. I imagine this is a stop gap to bring the game more in line with the PC version.

I've come back to this game after a few years and it's easily the best BR game around. No stupid sliding around like you're buzzed off your tits bullshit like you see in Warzone or Apex, just more grounded (albeit with really stupid skins etc.). It's a good time.

They need to put "Old" Vikendi back in rotation. The new one is fine, but the original Vikendi was the best map.
And restore UMP to .45 ammo.
And make the Panzerfaust go at least near to where you aim it.
And add flippers as obtainable gear to improve swimming speed by 20%.
And about four dozen other things.

This doesn't have the backing of the billion dollar Epic with their own in-house engine, unfortunately.

It running at a stable 60 now is good enough considering the state it launched in.
The Xbox launch state was wild. People driving through a building that hadn't even rendered yet to initial play-doh levels in order people over. People falling under the map without even trying and being invincible for the whole game... But that Korean jank factory got their shit together enough to where the PC version is smooth sailing at 200+fps on my PC these days... if only the Solo FPP playlist was still a-poppin'

Between Genshin and this, feels like this is it for the PS4...12 years is a hell of a time for a console to remain active.
PS3 still hangs in there with some online games as well almost clocking 20 years, given the PS4 is better at everything tech wise compared to PS3, I imagine it'd last way more years

Hum no comparison whatsoever. PS4 still has countless current games releasing for it every week, well over 12 years after release. PS3 had nothing in 2018. It died almost as soon as the PS4 released. Plus those games you mention for the PS3 aren't live games. They are just online modes whose servers are still online.
Im sure the same will happen for the PS4.
