Putin's guide to democracy

Putin said Russia would take its own approach to democratic reform.

"We'll do this at our own pace," he said. Democracy can mean different things in different countries, he said.

"In Russia, democracy is who shouts the loudest," he said. "In the U.S., it's who has the most money."

That's hysterical...and true.

I wasn't expecting such a frank comment from one of our ostensible allies; I guess he's just tired of the double standards, perhaps. This isn't to say that "he who shouts loudest" is the correct way for a supposed "democracy" to be run, but that's still an insightful and funny remark. :p

considering people who have shouted the loudest in Russia over the last couple of years have ended up dead or in Jail. Its amusing in a morbid sense at best.

But I do like the way he told Western powers, including the EU who really stepped in it to go fuck themselves. This is Russia's problem and Putin will handle it.

Yeah, I just saw that quote a few minutes ago. I was pretty surprised that Putin would admit such a thing about Russia's democracy. I mean, politicians are often relatively frank about their nation and other nation's situations, but the head honcho usually is not. We're certainly not going to see Bush say that money dominates US politics. Someone like McCain will, but not the president.

Putin on Bush:

Is predictible a compliment? lol

Depends on the translation, I suppose. If it means "consistent, regular, reliable, dependable", then it could be seen as a compliment. If it means "easily duped and able to be taken advantage of and manipulated because of said regularity", then that wouldn't be a compliment. :p

No, it's amusing because it's largely true. Are you denying that money controls this country? Enough with the damage control. The state of his country is irrelevant to the veracity of his assessment of ours-- hell, at least he seems to be somewhat honest about his own country's failings, even if he doesn't see them as such.

I can, because I am a Bush supporter:

"He said polls in Russia show 7 percent support for Bush, and 25 percent for Democratic challenger John Kerry."

If you're proud of that, it shows how pitiful the Liberal state of mind is... Now if only we let Foreign leaders and foreign populations vote in our elections!

I am not a Bush supporter but, I really don't think I would let my views on who to vote for be shaped by Russian public opinion. However in a strange twist Black approval ratings for Bush are about the same as the Russians.

It's certainly an interesting statement, given the UN elections monitoring commotion not too long ago. That's not to say either of your candidates are actually capable of more than sound bites though.

That aside though, it's nice to see someone so candid about the state of "democracy," or lack their of.
