Putting the Ly into Polygon, Crecente: "Oh, that I saw"

We pretty much knew that this site was going to implode the second the "talent" was announced, right guys?

Honestly, I really thought we were going to get a site much in the vein of TheVerge. Y'know, where egos are kept in check and posts are informative, timely, and also have great video and written review content.

Polygon has been a huge disappoint from day-one, sans that documentary which now is biting them in the butt for trying to make "the ultimate games news site".

i think some people have an agenda and they're looking for ammunition to use. it reminds me of the collective insanity of political campaigns where people whoop themselves up over every little thing that could be construed in a negative way to score points then endlessly dissect it

Except he doubled down on his stance even after the discoveries.

Ah, okay. Didn't know about that part.

I like RebelFM. Sometimes Arthur does seem blatantly biased and it can get annoying, but I do appreciate the social commentary and critique he sometimes provides (such as with the Farcry 3 White Savior stuff). But if he was still standing up for them after this information was revealed then I guess I can't side with him.

I always loved how when Polygon was launching, they were really all about conveying the message that the site was all about the personalities. I think they really wanted to be the next Giant Bomb in that regard. It's unfortunate that they run the gamut from unlikable to disgusting.

Hey! Look! Someone used hyperbole when talking about me in a sarcastic tone! That means I'm right!

I still think quoting his tweet and then directly following it with 'He's essentially saying that reviews should just be descriptions of a game' is misrepresenting his opinion.

But as that specific tweet wasn't what motivated your post, I guess it's not very important. However, I can't help but feel that a lot of people are misrepresenting what Gies said.
I mean, just look at this drivel to get a sense of what I mean:
polygonlol75u3y.png

He makes it sound like it's a great new model of a coffee maker. Just awful.

I know I'm way behind, but why is everyone hating on Gies? Wasn't he just giving Maxis the benefit of the doubt? I mean, he made that statement before people found the 20 minute offline shut off line of code, right? So all he was saying was that anyone guessing or assuming that Sim City could be played offline perfectly fine literally did not know that it could be, because they had yet broken down the code to absolutely know. I mean, he ended up being wrong, but I don't think it's sleazy for him to believe what Maxis reps outright stated. The blame should be aimed towards the reps, not the people that couldn't have known they were lying.

Unlike Gies, those making statements had actually played the game.

... yes. The only complaints with SimCity are related to server issues.

Jesus Fuck.

He JUST (38 minutes ago) literally said the only complaints with SimCity are because of server issues. Nothing with path finding, small cities, overpriced DLC, DRM, lies about DRM, etc.

That's the classic Gies tactic, change the subject.

"Wow I wish diablo had more interesting loot"

AG- Why did 1% of twitter people call me a faggot when talking about Diablo 3? You all must be homophobes so I can't hear what you're saying LALALALALA

"The ME3 ending and Space Magic/Space kid sucked, what a waste of a great universe"

AG - You just wanted a happy ending you trolls LALALLALA can't hear you.

"It sucks that Sim City is basically a facebook game with it's awful AI and tiny map sizes"

AG - You guys are just mad it's always online. It's 2013 accept that the internet is here to stay can't hear you LALALALALA

I can't tell if you're talking about polygon or GAF.

Eh. Polygon asked for this scrutiny. They are the ones who claimed to be building a revolutionary game site.

Let's not forget the Halo 4/Pizza Hut advertorial.

I got banned from commenting on Polygon because I called them out on that. Absolute disgrace of a site, staffed by exactly the kind of PA-hugging sycophants who should not be allowed to be called journalists.

yup. that's exactly what it is. I logged out of twitter and had no problem seeing everything.

and all I did was retweet one of his stupider tweets. I never actually tweeted at him.

what hilariously thin skin.

Exact same situation here. I never said anything offensive to the guy - he's actually blocking people for retweeting?

So yeah, not locked down, I'm blocked. How special, I've never been blocked by anyone on Twitter before.

Yea, it's really unfortunate. I like Chris Grant and Justin from their Joystiq days. They come across as likable and funny guys at least in the podcasts they would do with Ludwig.

I just have to say the stark contrast between Ken Levine and Arthur's "view" on what gamers can complain about.

I posted this in my discussion thread, getting people to watch the Ken Levine sit down, with Giantbomb(pretty amazing). You all need to watch it. Here are some quotes from the interview:

"You cant ever force something on gamers, gamers are going to...at the end of they day they always win, and they should always win, they're the customer" - Ken Levine

"Understand that people wana play the way they wana play, and you have to honor that, and you have to respect that, and you cant be the guy saying, no you guys are wrong!." - Ken Levine

I see Crescente is still the cunt he's always been, this is what he emailed back to a tip on an article that was falsely reporting on a fireware update:

Wow

I was going to suggest responding with "do you eat shit?" but then I realized it's a rhetorical question.

So Ken Levine and Arthur Goose are literally the exact opposites.

here are some quotes from the eurogamer review which I find really interesting:

Regardless, changes such as smaller playing areas, the removal of terrain modification, even the always-online requirement are all deliberate decisions and quite distinct from SimCity's real problem: the disconnected mechanics creaking away below the surface.

systems that underlie the game are broken

fire truck is dispatched. It begins driving off in the wrong direction before performing a few loops up and down the same street, circling as if warming itself up.

In one of my towns, the main road is forever clogged behind a parked car that refuses to move and which is thus blocking all the city's critical services.

The population numbers make no sense and sometimes fall or rocket for no apparent reason

buses bought to alleviate traffic congestion can also be spotted driving up and down the same strip of road over and over again. Their 40 passengers have never been known to disembark

Well, looks like we have a mechanically sound game.

Wow

I was going to suggest responding with "do you eat shit?" but then I realized it's a rhetorical question.

Look on the bright side. His email address is exposed now. He's probably going to get a lot of shit porn spam now in his Comcast address.

My Brother My Brother and Me always gives me conflicting feelings

I really wish the McElroys could somehow make a living off of it and quit Polygon

Yeah, I can't disagree. The phrase 'avoided major deviations from the gameplay loop' doesn't exactly fill me with passionate enthuasism for the game! I have actually noticed that Gies seems to be a fan of buzzwords. He keeps talking about games being 'graphically sophisticated'.

Gies has all the crass of Kamiya, with none of the class.

Between this and the Bioshock Infinite 'exclusive' review fiasco I have no idea how gaming journalists can call gamers entitled without taking a good look in the mirror.

This quote needs to be juxtaposed with Lucy Bradshaw's 'we know gamers want an offline mode for SimCity but that's not our vision.'

Polygon's moderators deleted SimCity article comments? That's fucked up. I know they did it in the past and they're still shitty for doing that in the first place, but I didn't know they were still doing it.

Is this true? Welp, they're really turning into Kotaku part deux. Kotaku used to do this to any comment that points out that they're wrong.

What are the Editor-in-Chief and Editor-at-Large doing while their staff are setting fire to their own website, I wonder?

Someone save the McElroy brothers, they need to get away from all these shady people.

After seeing how Justin was throughout the entire Sim City review process, I'd just say save Griffin.

Justin is a funny dude, but he is incredibly thick headed.

I really wish congress would pass a law banning gaming bloggers from having twitter accounts.

Edit: kotaku is way better than polygon. Polygon is irredeemable.
