Quebec to hold another sovereignty referendum ?

Quebec will never Canada because most Quebecers don't want to leave. The only reason Duceppe keeps getting re-elected is people really distrust Harper around here and the Liberals have been in the dumps since the sponsorship scandal.

That's kind of funny that they hold multiple independence referendums. First ones failed? Ah, try again! I can't imagine that happening anywhere else.

I'm free 2night after my LARPing guild meets.
Then the english can take them over and finally secure their foot hold in the north to beat the rogue colonies!

No more French game packaging! We might even get our inside cover art back on PS3 games. Totally worth losing Quebec.

when secession is concerned, i think ppl usually do it more than once! :lol

think about it, being defeated once and never doing it again, even if it cmae to the point of most ppl wantting to secede :lol

If Quebec leaves, who would they turn to for help if they need it: The United States or Canada? I can't imagine Canada willing to help a province that seceded, though.

what kind of help are you talking about? military?

and i dont' think secession necessarily permanently damages relations. look at the US and UK

If there is another referendum, I'd like ALL of Canada to be able to vote in it. We can vote whether we want to keep them or vote to tell them to get the fuck out!

I'd be like finally being able to kick out that whiny freeloading relative and telling them to get a motherfucking job for once!

This is so stupid. I'm Canadian, and I'm so tired of that crap.

Quebec gets a bunch of money from the other provinces each year. Exiting the country would not be a great idea for economic reasons.

If Quebec left it would be a huge pain in the ass for our relationship with the Eastern provinces and Alberta which is nearly as retarded as Quebec about this would find it easier to get out too. We like Alberta more or less.

There are also the conditions of their separation. Debt repayments? Currencies? Rights of travel? The rest of Canada is not well-inclined towards giving Quebec lenient terms, so Quebec would rapidly find itself hurting.

Well, we our a distinct nation of our own and have no reason to actually be ruled by a Canadian government. It makes no sense. When I listen to english radio in Montreal, ALL they talk about is American TV, American music, American movies, etc. Yet on the french radios it's all about our own tv/music/movies/etc., with only a little bit about the rest. We watch and listen to American entertainment too, but we definitly have a culture of our own, even moreso than the rest of Canada due to the fact that our culture can't dissolve into American culture as easily. Anyone who is French Canadian can attest to this. Plus, we have to deal with constant criticism and denial from the rest of Canada over this issue. Quebec should have been a country of its own for the past 30 years.

Quebec as a country would be like some ludicrous Chitty Chitty Bang Bang made-up nation. Like Jabrovia or Failsylvania.

Would Canada - Quebec mean that the US would become the second largest country? If so... FURK YEAR.

EDIT: Just checked Wikipedia... yes... yes it would. LET THE SEPARATION COMMENCE. :lol

1/2 to 2/3 of the landmass would stay in Canada in the event of separation, dunno where that lands anything though

Sounds good, but again, you'll only ever end up with the shit nobody wants plus the tourist trap of Quebec City. Have at it!

What a weird looking country that would be

last time I checked, Jean Charest is the provincial premier of Quebec and he has three years left to his mandate,

So, there won't be a referendum for the next three years

you English Canadians living in the Rest Of Canadian are making up lots of BS that is not happening

the Sovereignty issue is weak and at its weakest in a long time

Gilles Duceppe has NO say, NO power just a steady paycheck and guaranteed pension

-economy is going well now in Quebec
-the new generation don't care, they have the most comfortable lives of any generation
-the ratio of immigrants is at its highest, immigrants make more babies than Francophone Quebecois
-the PQ is no longer the party that it was in the 1970s, it does not have the same drive

I was born in Quebec and still live here and i'm tired of hearing about this separation bullshit. The PQ is just as bad as the PLQ in here, and Marois would make an even worst Prime Minister than Charest.

Duceppe just can't shut up, and i didn't even know about this letter he made and i read the newspapers everyday.

So, no. A referendum is nowhere near and i think a lot of people here are also tired of this.

The rest of the world doesn't even know the name of our prime minister you think they're gonna give two shits about getting a letter from Duceppe? They'll treat it like I treat those scam Nigerian emails telling me a long lost relative died and I stand to inherit $50 million if I send them $10k to release the money.

Anyway, this is yet just another thread to hate on Quebec because of some stupid politician.

Way to generalize anti-Quebec GAF. You're just as dumb as when the whole world hated the USA simply because of Bush. I bet they liked it.

If Quebec leaves:

They'll go bankrupt because they have the biggest debt load of all Provinces, and we sure as hell would make them take their debt with them.

Then they'll come crawling back because they need Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia to pay for their universal $5/day daycare.

I support sovereignty, if only because then we'll have one corrupt and utterly inefficient level of government instead of two. But yeah, it ain't happening. Not now, not 10 years from now.

The problem is that Quebec GAF elects the politicians who represent them, just like people give Alberta shit for always voting Conservative even though a lot of Alberta is more liberal than the party they keep voting into power. Anti Quebec Gaf is sick of the greedy and spoiled Quebec politicians that make a big shadow play about how hard done by they are every few years (well, mostly the man named in of the OP) as well as the favorable treatment Quebec tends to get as a whole. So they're all pissy at anything which makes reasonable Quebec GAfers (and reasonable Quebecer's) rage quit. :lol

This. Alberta couldn't be any more like Texas (even culturally) if it tried.

The main parts of Alberta, at best, would be a much more Liberal version of Texas. There's a difference between Texas-lite and 'hates the Liberal party of Canada'. People in non rural Alberta are generally very liberal on social issues, it's the older generation from rural areas that has things like the Wild Rose party starting up.

But if you want to tie Alberta to being Texas like on the basis of 'oil', go ahead. but it's not really an apt comparison outside of economies. Especially not to the degree you've stated.

Good clarification.

Also goddamn I'm having enough problems as someone born in Quebec before 1994. I wonder what would happen if they separate. "Yeah, you need to do a citizenship exam now"
