Can i use a 10/100MBit switch to connect 2 computers to a cablemodem?, and use internet with both computers, and share files between my 2 computers?.

Or do i really need a router for it?

you need a router... unless you want to pay the cable company for an extra IP address.

A router is definitely the way to go. They're dirt-cheap these days, and
they give you a hardware firewall. Also super-easy to configure, usually.
