Hi,

How many different versions of MGS 2 is there in NA and Europe?

MGS 2?
MGS 2 greatest hits/Platinum?
MGS 2 Substance?

Was there any difference between european and NA versions at all?
Was there any ugly cheap platinum/greats hits version of substance ever released on the PS2?

Thanks in advance.

3 PAL versions of MGS2:
MGS2:SOL - extra bonus DVD, added European Extreme difficulty mode, Theater mode, Boss mode
MGS2:SOL - platinum version
MGS2:Substance (ultimate collector's edition) - "The Documents Of MGS2" included, added European Extreme difficulty mode

I can tell you one thing, they changed the way the camera moves to first-person in the naked Raiden section in Substance, that's because I took advantage of it in original MGS2 and captured all kinds of images of him from all angles and even showed what he's hiding between his legs, some of those pics got around on the net and Konami made a change to the camera IN THAT section alone... I made Konami do it!

If I remember correctly, the Substance version had some of the PS2-optimized effects missing, because it was based off the version they ported to the Xbox, right? I remember people going on about the rain effect differences in another topic, for example.

in Substance the thermal goggles the same way as in Splinter Cell, before it would just make everything red and soldiers and claymore mines had a brighter shade of red

There's also Document of Metal Gear 2, which is a collector's item, though it's not terribly expensive ($20 MSRP). It's a "making of" DVD made which also has some of the extra missions from Substance on it, playable by the PS2.

The PS2 version of Substance was missing nothing.

The PC and XBOX versions were the downgraded releases, with the PC version being based on the XBOX port.
