I recently bought an Iriver and I have a question for anyone who owns one. If I turn on my Iriver and just let it go to my main screen where it lists folders and songs, if I leave it like that for a minute it shuts down by itself. Is that normal?

Should've got an iPod.

I think it's just trying to save power.. but that is an annoying feature. Really annoying. But then again, I can't think of one that doesn't do that. Nope, I can't think of one no not at oh wait the IPOD!

Question: Is there a site where I can snap up the H1xx at a reasonable price before H3xx takes over?

I'm Canadian. Although a US site that ships to Canada would be fine too, with our strong dollar and all.

Thanks.

check the misticriver.net boards. there's a running "best prices" thread.

Cool, found a place with H120s at a good price.

Gonna call them tomorrow and see how shipping and stuff is done.
The only thing that I worry about is Extended Warranty, though.

brothers welcome me to your ranks. no of course i didnt get the iriver, i got an ipod.
so what do i do, its recharging now. can i just throw everything in there or do i HAVE to install apple's program?
and if so, does it basically work like windows explorer, i can just drag and drop songs in there, make directories etc?
BTW, heads up to anyone looking to get an ipod, amazon is having their thanksgiving sale now, so its just $275. i ordered it sunday night, w/ free shipping and i got it today. i was actually expecting it next week...guess they are shipping everything fast since lot of ppl are ordering them as gifts.

edit: so as not to lose any hardcore cred, i still believe the iriver is the better engineered device. but the ipod is so slim and sexy and the navigation is easier. hey, im just shallow, ok? :/

Pffff...you are no brother of mine if you decided to get the evil that is an ipod rather than the Iriver.

I'm sure there's 3rd party software to xfer music from your computer to your iPod..
..but you might as well stick with iTunes.

In iTunes, you import your mp3s from a directory. iTunes will then sort your music using your mp3s' ID3 tags (by artist, album, genre, etc.). If you have a large library of mp3, I hope for your sake that their ID3 tags are all correct. What you see in iTunes will be what you see on your iPod. So organise all your music in iTunes so that you can browse through it neatly on your iPod.

ewwwwwww.
cant i just sort of drag and drop it the way it is from my pc using some other program?
i always organize by genre, like: electronic, 80's pop, britpop, metal, indie and so on.

Yeah, iriver lacks some features that I would find very convient like "on-the-fly" playlists and be able to track newly added mp3s rather than navigating to find the files. I can't complain too much since I do use the recording and radio features regularly.

What we really need is for either iRiver or iPod to come out in a new version that has the good features of the other (the superior sound, lower price, built-in FM radio and USB HD nature of iRiver with the sexy design, better software and iTunes of iPod).
