Question about job interviews...

Are evening job interviews a bad sign? When I say evening, I mean 6:30PM. I'm asking because I've never really had a job interview this late before. Of all the interviews I've been on, they've usually been early to late morning.

If you're wondering it's for CompUSA. I'm trying to pick up some part-time work during weekends. I view interviews like a game of chess and I try to get inside the head of the interviewer before the interview. I really don't know what to make of this guy who contacted me though. For one thing, he got in contact with through e-mail as opposed to the phone. The next thing, his "netiquette" seems a bit off. He sends me an e-mail saying(exactly), "Please come in Wednesday at 6:30PM.", one sentence. I reply with the usual "That appointment it fine.", "I look forward to meeting with you", etc. Then he replies(again, exact words).. "Very good.".

One sentence replies. That can't be good, can it? Maybe he's trying to psych me into thinking he's laid back, then next thing I know -BOOM!-, it's 300 questions!

Could be the person scheduling it is busy at the moment? I know it's crappy, but in the hectic world of retail wage slavery you're at the whim of the time clock.

I've had to pass on job offers because the interviewing supervisors were the sort of selfish twats that always schedule themselves 9-5 and weekends off. Sorry dude, but I can't make it in because I'm working 9AM-8PM. >:|

I'd be thankful. Screwy as it sounds.

i really think a lot of people tend to think too much sometimes when it comes to interviews. It really does sound like he's busy, which managers tend to be.

The fact that they're taking net applications (and actually responding) sorta sounds like they're desparate, but that's just my anecdotal experience talking. We're doing the same thing at Staples right now, because there's a severeshortage of competent potentials for business machines/electronics right now, we just lost someone Thursday, and we're already understaffed.

I think this is a textbook case of Vieo desperately trying to show he's more clever than he actually he is :lol

Staples is always understaffed lolz. If you arent working 5 different departments you arent work at staples.

Thankfully this time of year my department gets its hiring fun time, and we just got three great people *LUCKY*. Retail hiring is a fucking crap-shoot.

When I look at a potential I pretty much just look to see how cocky they are. If they feel they're already awesome, they're gonna be fucking worthless cause when the time comes you need more from them, and there is ALWAYS that time, they wont do it. Cause they cant do more! They're already #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Retail is always understaffed. It's common to be a person or two short of the people that you need per area. But now it's going to get ridiculous. There's my specialist, two of us who get near 40 hours, and a guy who's part time and wants less hours. With the holidays coming, they'd better get their head out of their ass and either decide to grant overtime. As it is, i'm going to have to cut my hours there because i'm getting too busy elsewhere.

You have two people getting 40?! Haha. Must be nice :( I just hope I can hold OS together through BTS. ive been through four but this is my first in charge o the department.

The real problem I find with retail employees is this.

You give them hours they ask for, LIFE overrides their job, so they want less, but they want more but they want less.

You either go with the flow or get outta the boat. If youre life is THAT dynamic, you dont wanna work retail where the schedule is so fucking fluid you cant plan beyond two weeks. The store CANNOT plan its business around YOUR business. Its work, its your job, if you dont like it, leave. This isnt related to you as much as part time retailers in general. Most of them dont DEPEND on their jobs since they live with parents or are content living with a roommate forever while they party all night long.

And as for overtime you arent going to get it often if ever. Trust me on this. Im lucky to get an hour overtime in two months. Full time is plenty for me anyway.

Shortage at Staples? You can fix that...
