Question about Ridge Racer PSP's wireless multiplayer

isamu

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
This may be kinda a dumb question, but will I be able to connect to other PSPs wirelessly for multiplayer if I'm in a WiFi hot spot?

Let's say I'm in a WiFi hotspot somewhere in L.A., while another guy is in a WiFi hotspot somewhere in New York. Will we be able to play against each other?

No. At least, it wouldn't be as simple as that. You'd need something like XLink Kai.

That would be called online gaming, which RR doesn't have. If he's in the general vicinity as you, you coul dplay him.

O.K. thanks guys. That was the deal breaker for me. I'm not getting a PSP. I'm getting an Alienware mobile desktop instead. At least I can go online with that :)

*cough*

Uh, maybe you missed the OTHER games that can go online for PSP? Twisted Metal? Atv?

Five PSP games will go online straight from launch.

P.S. Why is it one or the other? Alienware Mobile Desktop is much more expensive, right?

While I more than likely won't get a PSP, that's a silly reason not to get one. Plenty other games will be online.

Im a RR whore though....it MUST be onlime!

You'll be able to go online with other PSP games. The option isn't included in RR.

Yeah but I haven't made up my mind on the brand yet. But after seeing Agent Seabreeze's laptop in *this* thread, I am leaning towards it.

Too bad Dark10x got banned. I wanted to ask him something :(

Hi Amir0x...So with these games I will supposedly be able to online straight online if I'm in a WiFi hot spot vicinity? AWESOME! I work in a building that right in the middle of the very first WiFi district in L.A.!

Can you list all the upcoming games that will be online for PSP?

Man, imagine an online PSP version of Tekken 5! Or what about Super Puzzle Fighter II, Samurai Shodown and Street Fighter III? Oh my goodness..

My campus has wi-fi hotspots all over, fun times ahead.

OH SHIT WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!!

Please tell me Tony Hawk Underground remix is one of the online/WiFi titles! Please say it's so!!!!!!

HOLY FUCK.....THE JAPANESE VERSION PUYO PUYO FEVER IS WiFi COMPAITBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMFG Puyo Puyo over a WiFi signal while at work is gonna rawk!

Representatives from Sony's US game division said three titles from its 989 Sports studio--MLB, NBA, and Gretzky NHL--and two from SCEA itself--ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails and Twisted Metal: Head-On--will be playable wireless via the unit's built-in 802.11b Wi-Fi connectivity.

Dammit. The rest are crappy sports games. No THUG2? Damn.

Ridge Racer over a wifi connection would have been GODLY :(

FYI, THUG2 isn't made by Sony. But I don't think it'll be online.

Okay, I haven't taken my PSP online with RR because I never used Xlink. Now that Twisted Metal will be here next Wednesday, I have to play some of you guys online. here's my question since I've never used a Wi-Fi hotspot. I was checking if I had any sort of signal here in my apartment and I got a 50% signal from a linksys! Once I got on through their connection, I noticed it hovered around 40%. Would this be enough to play smoothly, or should I just go to the nearest Starbucks?

Hmm strange....IGN says this about their THUG 2 preview:

We didn't get a chance to play with the game's many **WiFi** modes yet, but essentially every multiplayer mode from the console multiplayer experience is brought over to PSP

Hmmm........

Technically every game uses WiFi. It just depends on if a game has an Online setup to it, or if you have to tunnel it using the local wireless and external software. Think of it like Halo 1 having Ethernet LAN options only, but Halo 2 has Ethernet LAN and Online options.

You could use tunneling to go online with Halo 1, but tunneling isn't needed for Halo 2 because it has online programmed into it.
