I'm drawing a picture of Samus Aran, but I can't find any reference art to answer this question, and I also haven't played any of the Gamecube games, so that doesn't help.

Does Samus's armor have any sort of devices in the soles of the shoes? Part of the drawing shows the bottom of a shoe, and I've no idea what to draw on it. I can't seem to remember her having any sort of rockets or anything under there in SSB, but then again, she does seem to have some sort of mobility in the air.

I'd leave it blank myself. But it's entirely up to your discretion. I don't think there's any official word at all on how the bottom of Samus' feet look.

I guess it makes more sense that way too, since she's pretty cooped up in there, so there wouldn't be much room in the sole for a visible thruster of any kind.

As far as I know, her boosters are in her back. Her shoes are pretty much just boots.

Thanks for the help, here's your reward: a really early sketch that will eventually be inked. I guess 2H pencils don't show up too well when scanned, so I had to gamma correct it a bit, and that's as dark as it could get.

I know she has really long hair, but I drew it tied back because think of how much of a mess it would be if her hair got all around her face while she had the mask on and couldn't do anything about it!

Edit: And that's a splatter of blood on the wall behind her. I'm eventually going to have to draw a charred hole in the front of her chest armor. Thinking about it now though, if she got hit by an energy bolt that passed straight through, should there even be any blood?

True, but I'm not a fan of THAT much blood. Felt like keeping it subtle. I actually played a little bit of Metroid as I was in the middle of the drawing. When she dies, she blows up in to little red pixels! I could understand Mega-Man exploding, but that's downright violent for a person to do.
