Question about traveling with a desktop PC

anyone ever pack a desktop PC in their lugguage while traveling? I'm looking at changing my PC into a SFF PC, so space in my suitcase wont be an issue, but will I get a problem passing customs with a full PC in my luggage?

I'm even thinking about getting the Shuttle bag that goes with the SFF case I'm getting, to even possibly bring it on as a carry-on instead. Again size isn't an issue, but I don't want any problems.

I'm just kinda nervous after the hassle I got just having a PS2 in my luggage last time I traveled. Anyone have any experience with this?

You got hassled for having a PS2 in your luggage? Was this in the US? Geez we have so many electronics when we travel that we actually pack a separate bag.... laptops, digital cameras, digital camcorders, PSP, cell phones, various adapters, headphones, card reader, etc.... and I've never had an issue... what airport?

I've always packed my PCs and monitor in entirely different boxes and sent them via air cargo. Just easier from insurance perspective.

Well, if they don't hassle you for laptop, I don't see why they would hassle you for a desktop PC.

Funny, I got hassled for my PS2, as well. They were talking about wanting to crack it open and make sure there was nothing in it, but I told them that would void the warrantee and they could go ahead if they wanted to give me a new PS2, and they backed off.

Why don't terrorists use XBOXs to blow up planes instead of PS2s, seriously. They'd even have more room to plant explosives.

Maybe not so much a hassle as in not letting me bring it, but no matter where I leave from they will always bust open the bag with the PS2 and search it like I'm harboring a small nuke. Newark, Chicago, SF, always.

I'm actually not bringing a monitor, just the PC, but may just send it to myself instead of carrying it with me.

are you serious, they didn't go that far with my PS2 :lol

the thing about the laptop is worse case scenario they could ask you to turn it on to prove it's not a bomb. I don't want it to come to me pulling the motherboard out of my desktop to prove there's no bomb inside :lol

i'd tkae out the heatsink and pack it seperately at a bare minimum. depending on it's weight and how much bouncing your package will go through it could rip off the socket and destroy the innards.
