Hi All,

I have been researching getting VoiP for a while now, and I was all set on getting Vonage, but then I had friend tell me, who works in the telecom industry, to go with AT&T CallVantage. So I was wondering if anyone on here has either one, and can answer these few questions:

1. Does Vonage's caller ID show just the number of the person calling? Or does it show the name of the caller and the number?

2. Same question about AT&T CallVantage?

3. Did anyone have their existing phone number transferred over to Vonage? If so, how long did it take?

4. Again, same question about AT&T CallVantage?

I am asking because I have been reading reviewing on dslreports, and cnet, and everyone is saying how bad of a taste they got with Vonage, and how it took almost 3mos to get their number transferred over and for the service to start.

So any information would be great.

I heard the service is nice once you get it working but getting your existing number transferred is a bitch. My boss has spent the last two months trying to get his number transferred from verizon to Vonage. They said it will be transferred by this week but we're not holding our breaths.

I've had Vonage for 2 months and have been pretty happy with it.

As far as caller ID, it will show the name and number most of the time.

I didn't have my number transfered over, so I can't help with that question.

What about Caller ID with call Waiting? When u are on the phone and someone calls you, does their name and number show up?

Yes. Vonage services are of at least the same functional caliber as those you're getting from your current telco. You won't be missing out on anything feature wise.

On the telco number transfer front I've heard some people get transferred within 2 weeks and some people get transferred in over a month. This is the same problem with transfers of mobile telephone numbers.
