Question for DieselGaf in regards to post workout pain

So I’ve never seriously worked out, but I decided to finally get in shape and I’m using a personal trainer to help. I saw them for the first time on Wednesday and we work out again next week regularly. During our workout we focused on pecs, triceps, and cardio. Point is it’s been a couple of days and I’m still in pain. Like, all those muscle groups hurt to the point that movement is somewhat limited.

How normal is that for a noob? How can I tell if I’ve really overdone it?

EDIT: Thanks to all for advice and words of encouragement

Absolutely normal.

Legs are gonna be a motherfucker aswell, you are not gonna walk straight for a couple of days mate, prepare yourself, especially if you do squats and leg extension machine, shit is gonna hurt bad.

Most painful muscles when i started were abs, pecs, legs and biceps, i really don't envy the first month of body building pain wise.

A good training time is between 60-90 min unless you have some particular training plan, but if you are with a decent personal trainer it is his job to avoid overtraining.

Very normal.

Walk around, stretch your limbs mindfully. Be in touch with your body; muscle mind connection.

You're doing great dude. Muscle pain is your body saying you pushed beyond. Be happy.

Also, this initial post workout attack will subside because your body will get used to it.

Seems pretty normal if you haven't done any serious workout before.
Second day is usually the worst for me, then it starts to go down.

This will also happen if you do new workouts or attempt to significantly increase the intentisty of your workout. I exercise 5 days a week, some days I lift weights and some I do cardio. I only get sore now when I incease the intensity of my workouts, or do an exercise that is new/different from my normal routine. In the beginning though, yes I would sometimes be sore for days.

Your muscles gets hurt alot, if you don't do exercises.
After I got covid, I took a break from gym. After 3 weeks, my muscles to hurt alot, once I went back in.

Completely normal. Your body will get used to the fact that you now exercise and you won't get the soreness all the time. Also it will never be as severe unless you take an extended break again. Actually you'll be happy if once in a while you feel that soreness the next day. It lets you know that you had a good workout or you exercised a new muscle you didn't know you had or were ignoring.

Good luck on your journey! Being sore will be standard for the short term and will subside as your body becomes accustomed to your workouts.

Just know that you don’t need to be sore to equal a good, positive workout.

Totally normal as long as it is aches and not sharp pains. If you are young then it won't take long for you to not really get DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness. If you are old then better get used to them.
I honestly like them as long as they are mild, you can actually feel your muscles.

Pain is normal at the beginning. It’s unavoidable. Especially if you’re older than 25 or haven’t ever been in shape before. You’re body will adapt as you get stronger.

Ah… the good days…. I envy you OP. I long for that pain…

That being said… it‘s normal. Still vaguely remember not being able to sit for like a week after one of my early squat sessions.

It's called DOMS ...

as in Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. It will go away the more you work out. You'll sometimes get it again when you change an exercise variable or implement a new exercise into your routine that trains a muscle group in a different way. Anyways, keep it up.

Like everyone is saying it’s normal! Your muscles need to be torn in order to grow! Remember that also rest is very important for muscle growth

DOMS. Give yourself some extra recovery time when you're starting out, especially for squats. You'll adapt soon enough and it won't be an issue.
