Question to non-Christians

Status
Not open for further replies.
I was watching the news and there was this notorious right-wing politician interviewed and when talking about Muslims, he refered to them in the derogatory term (but not too racy for TV) 'Mahommedans'. A old, incorrect term that implies Muslims worship Mohammed (instead of Allah) as a way to demean them.

But this got me wondering, what do some non-Christians call Christians when trying to demean them? Buddhists, Indus, Muslims, Jews and all others, please step forward and enlighten me on this subject. Keep in mind, this is a moderated forum so I am not asking for vulgarity. :)

A neighborhood near where I live in the BK and spend a lot of time has a bunch of Jehovah's Witnesses wandering around looking like zombies. My girlfriend and I call them Creepy God People.

cool thread, can't wait for the follow-up,

Hey black people, what crazy terms do you and your friends use to demean the jewish community next to yours?

The OT is starting to resemble a lame version of Do the Right Thing.

The Great Unwashed. Suckers. People who are afraid of death so they decide to tell each other feel good bedtime stories.

I thought you believed in reincarnation?

I think Christianity is a genius creation to keep humans in line. If it didn't exist we'd probably all be fucked.
Some really smart dude didn't figure it out to keep people under control or something. Dude. It's just something that builds over time in any civilization.

Fundies, sheeple, jesus freaks, bible-thumpers, and the real politically charged ones get the Jeebofacist and Christofacist labels.

This is in addition to more general name calling, such as hypocrite, idiot, asshat, etc.

No, I believe in the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path of Buddhism. They say nothing about reincarnation, sorry if it seemed that way.

So far, most of the answers come from Christians (practicing or not...). Not too useful. :)

I remember reading some literature from the Middle Ages where besieged Jewish communities in the very Chrisitan Europe would tell each other stories of Mary, usually depicted as a dumb whore getting tricked and knocked up. So already, the story of Mary was a source of ridicule. Not quite derogatory names, but it could lead to some.

I expect Trinity, idolatry, doomsday protestant prudes and a few other particularities of Christian denominations to be mocked too. :D

Right. "Christian" isn't an ethnicity.

If you call Christians idiots, deluded sheep,Hypocrites, The Great Unwashed, Suckers, etc, then you're not a Christian.

It's so pleasant to see you take such glee in the insulting of others :P

Since when were we talking about your mom? :lol

I went to edit it, since I knew a sensitive little crap would post something like that, but it's ok. You only prove the point. What happened to turn the other cheek?

Nah I just saw an opening and went for it. Let me have my entertainment damnit!

Turn the other cheek? Sensitive little crap?

What makes you think that DarknessTear is a Christian? On this thread, all he's posted about Christianity is "I think Christianity is a genius creation to keep humans in line. If it didn't exist we'd probably all be fucked." Not the sort of statement a Christian would make, imo.

For that matter, his response is hardly indicative of being "a sensitive little crap", but rather of trying to inject some light-hearted humour into a thread (rather like demon's response) which is otherwise fated to become a GAF anti-religious circle jerk.

I don't know, I guess one good aspect is they think they'll actually go somewhere when they die.
Why is that good? Explain to me why it's preferred for people to act nobly in promise of later rewards instead of just acting nobly because that's what you should do? Also, if we all believed we only had this life, I think we would work harder to make it better for everyone here.

Well I don't believe that we'll have another life or somewhere we can go after we die. Even reincarnation is out of the question. I believe that all we get is pitch blackness. Christianity's ideas surely sound more happy than mine.

I'm not a christian myself, but the words I most often use to describe them are mom, dad, brother, sister, and other familial "pejoratives" of a less nuclear nature. My dog is a straight-up pagan though and my cats are into shamanism.

Only a couple steps ahead of terrorists. Walking contradictions. Morons. Brainwashed fools. Fundie fucks.

I could go on.

OK, it was a misstep since I didn't connect him to his previous comment (I don't pay a ton of attention to names in threads that I glance over). You're right, I'm wrong.

Good day.

The funny thing about these threads is that they always show that it's not religion thats ucks, it's people in general. Look at all of you cheering because you have derogatory names for people who believe in something you don't, or those preaching that their way is the best way. Assholes, one and all.

This isn't how Christianity works, but it is similar to how karma works. :/ Every major religion offers an award of some sort and you could say that anyone who follows anything is only doing it because there's something in it for them at the end.

The only way kings can expand empire is through conflict and targeted oppression: How many people would be willing to die for imperial conquest if they knew there was no afterlife? How many poor people would accept exploitation as easily if they knew there wasn't a magic space wizard to reward them?

Christianity is an extremely clever construct. The fact that so many are willing to adopt absurd logical constructs to justify their belief, despite overwhelming empirical evidence to the contrary, is testament to its intrinsic pull, as well as to the social appeal of the church.

My word for Christians: embarrassments.

Religion was hardly the driving force behind imperialism.

Yeah! Let's promote hate and intolerance! We'll show those Christians! That's what they get for hating us and not tolerating our beliefs!

I can't believe this thread isn't locked yet. A thread specifically asking for hate speech? Fucking ridiculous.

Though I participated, I can't help but see the truth in your point. Considering the fact that anti-Muslim speech is becoming more and more mainstream, I don't see that much harm in pointing out -- with tongue planted firmly within the cheek -- the slurs from other sides.

In the context, the NYT just published a story about the scientific power of language, particulary curse words:

Story here:

Christians are generally tourists - they believe they come from Heaven/God, spend some material time on earth, then leave and go back up to Heaven. Earth is just a temporary "stop" where you eat, shit, sleep, pray and get good grades to go to Heaven. No wonder Western Civilization is destroying the planet! They think it's just a rest stop.
