questions for Turbo Grafx lovers

For those that love NEC's console efforts, please tell me the games I ought to get

Also, more importantly I guess.. do I need to get a Turbo Duo AND a TurboGrafx 16 or does the Duo play both the cards and CD? I'm confused about this whole thing

duo plays cards and cds -- there's no region lockout on cds, but you'll need a converter for imported hucards. definitely go duo: imo the most memorable turbo games are cds. dracula x is the perfect place to start, and it's entirely worth the asking price if you're a castlevania fan. beyond that it's mostly 2d shooters...but what 2d shooters: gate of thunder, lords of thunder, blazing lazers, super star soldier, soldier blade...

Blazing Lazer, Keith's Courage, Bonk, and Lords of Thunder.

I advise you NOT to miss Blazing Lazers, if there was one game out of the library that I'd buy, it'd be Blazing Lazer. One of the best space shooters of all time.

thanks! that definitely helps me. dracula x is a lock and i love shooters, but what about Bonk? i was always curious about that game

edit: thanks fuzzy

Duo plays both, hence them putting "duo" in the title, dummy. ;)

As far as what games to get, well, there are plenty. I don't think the TG had any generation-defining AAA experiences, but a swarm of good second tier titles. Personally, Galaga '90 is my fave.

i still really like the first two bonk games, though a lot of people think they've aged badly. the turbo duo originally came with a cd containing gate of thunder, the first two bonks, and some version of bomberman. definitely track that down.

Me and my brothers played the shit out of that game when we got the Turbo Grafx, it's one fucking intense experience. Worth owning a turbo g just for this game imho.

For the sake of balance I would also recommend Ninja Spirit and Bloody Wolf.

To add what was already recommended...

Neutopia 1 and 2 if you like Zelda clones

Dungeon Explorer 1 and 2 are pretty good Gaunlet clones (I think)

It's all about the Ys games... Book I and II, and the IV translation. Buy an import copy of IV, and go and get the translation patch, follow the instructions and burn the translated game onto a CD and enjoy in your Duo. Exile is also another fun game, though a little easy. Haven't played Exile II yet but supposedly it's impossible. And the Tengai Makyo games are good, if you can understand Japanese...

Devil's Crush
Alien Crush
All the Bonk's Adventure's
Splatterhouse
Legendary Axe
Neutopia
R-Type
Ys Book 1&2 (CD)

Those were my faves. There are a lot of good games on TG though. I think it's a pretty underrated system.

Legendary Axe is a must. It's been years since i've played that... time to drag the ole 16 out.
Blazing Lazers, Ninja Spirit, Bonk's Adventure also great games

Military Madness, it's kinda like Advance Wars but dark. The Bonk games are great as well. I still need to eBay my copy of Bonk 3, it's wicked expensive.

Blazing Lasers [best game on the console]
Military Madness [the original advance wars, and harder to boot]
Legendary Axe [simple but perfect action platforming]
Devils Crush [best videogame pinball ever]
R-Type [where frustration becomes passion]
Dungeon Explorer [awesome gauntlet style 4 person game]
Bloody Wolf [again, awesome with a friend]
Splatterhouse* [gory arcade action]

*my mom freaked out when she saw my friend and I playing this, and made my dad drive us back to Toy's R Us the night we bought it to return it. ah, the memories...

Is everyone really forgetting the awesome Dungeon Explorer and its sequel Dungeon Explorer 2?

Take Gauntlet and add bosses, RPG elements, and better gameplay.

Whoops, it was said but needs repeating anyway!
