How does this man get his own television show? Is there a person on the planet who doesn't hate this worthless waste of air time, and for that matter, air?

If you like Stephen A. Smith, post here. I will hunt you down and kill you. Then the rest of us nice, sane people won't have to worry about Smith and people like him getting their own shows.

You know what I hate? THE WORLD SERIES OF POKER COMMERCIALS!!!! Its like they are trying to top Tilt for Most Annoying Commercial EVER.

You know, I used to think the same way, but Stephen A. knows his shit about basketball. His coverage during the playoffs was enough to impress me.

Of course, his personality is ridiculously abrasive.

I have an idea....take Skip Bayless off Cold Pizza and team him with Smith. It would be the worst show ever since they are the worst personalities ever, but no one would ever watch it. Then Woody could have 1st and 10 all to himself without douchebag Bayless there.

My biggest problem isn't even his personality. It's that he can't learn to fucking hide the fact that he's a fan of teams. I just want to kick him in the shin and yell "Hey, dick, you're a reporter. Quit telling us how much you want the fucking Lakers, Yankees, and Sixers to win"

edit: Skip and Smith used to do a segment on Sportscenter all the time. I've become conditioned to change the channel any time I hear anything resembling "Stephen A. Smith" though, so I can't say whether it is still on.

As far as "Most annoying" goes, Smith actually covered for Jim Rome on his TV show recently. Yeah, replace the second biggest jackass in sports journalism with the first. Good move, ESPN.

You know I haven't seen the show but after reading this topic I'm damn interested in watching it. Whether I'll like it or not is TBD but I think I'll get tied to it, especially considering the crap that's on TV now.. at least until Football season.

I just don't get how a grown man gets so angry about other grown men playing organized games.

troubling

I actually like Stephen A. alot, as do all of my freinds. Sure he's loud and abrasive but that's how us New Yorkers like our sports reporters. If this show is anything like his radio show it should be great.

Stephen A is funny because he gets legitimally angry and upset during interviews and debates for no apparent reason...

Dan Patrick: Welcome to 5 burning questions with Stephen A. Smith, Stephen 1st question, what do you thinkof Pat Riley potentially coaching the Heat next season??

S.A.S.: I think its bullshit Dan, I think its ridicoulous, and QUITE FRANKLY, any one who supports this should have should be subjected to perpetual torture of the worst kind.

DP-Don't you think thats Kind of harsh?

SAS-ABSOLUTEY NOT, How can you get rid of Stan Van Gundy, Stan Van Gundy was one game and one less injury away from playin in the finals DAN PATRICK, Pat Riley is an idiot and should die if he gets rid of Stan Van Guny.. *enter obligatory Shaq compliment*.

ESPN is starting to piss me off. Sportscenter has sucked lately. They need to bring Kornheiser back to PTI already. Get rid of Rome is burning. Get Skip Bayless and Jay Mariotti off television permanently. Bring the hot chicks like Thea back to Cold Pizza and get rid of the lady that looks like a dude.

Well what do you expect, during this time of year, which is ALWAYS Baseball centric. Baseball is boring enough as it is until the 7th inning of meaningful games that only take place september and beyond--so of course listening to no chraisma sports writer dissecting every aspect of the sport which is still in its meaningless games period is not very exciting. Then you have Tiger, whom I'm a fan of but come on, every time he wins a major the do ntohing to recycle to the same "Road to being the best ever" montage for the entire week.

The pain is almost over with Football camp gearing back up, Sean Salisbury=GOOD TV=RATINGS!!!

NFL Live is back too bitches!!!! SIGN YOU FUCKIN CONTRACT ALREADY ALEX SMITH!!!

Obviously, you've never seen the "Old School/Nu Skool" segment with the two on Sunday morning Sportscenters.

Or you wouldn't ask for a whole show between the two.

yes i would. put those two and bill plaschke all on one show, and remove them from everything else on ESPN. just make sure i know when that show is on, so i will never even accidentally catch any part of it.

Stephen A. Smith is abrasive, but man, he's one hell of a great basketball analyst. Usually, I don't mind his anger, since he's taking a position on something, and usually backs it up with evidence.

Skip Bayless does annoy me, but you know, he's the reason why Woody Paige is so damn lovable. The way those two play off each other on Cold Pizza is priceless, especially on any episode where Woody challenges skip to eat meat (like the White Castles).

Quite frankly, I wish they'd fire Chris Berman... or at least promise me in writing that he won't cover baseball -- ESPECIALLY not the home run derby during the All-Star break. It makes me so angry I turn the volume off and hunt for radio coverage to accompany the TV. I've hit people in the mouth, people I call friends, for imitating his "back back back" blather and his inane nicknames... oh Berman you make me homicidal!

But I don't mind Norman Chad... go figure :/

It ticks me off that you bastards stole Thea Andrews from us...

Ticks me off I say!

As for Stephen A Smith, he's one of the most entertaining sports media personalities going, which is all I care about since most of the media is completely full of shit anyway. As long as you make me laugh, you're good in my books. So yeah, I like the guy. And I await to see how Archiax plans to hunt me down and kill me.

All of you who thing "Screamin A" is a great Basketball mind....

David Aldridge was TWICE the basketball mind that "A" is, and 10x less annoying.

+5 for D. Aldridge. The way he does his "ESPN" thing at the end of his interview, priceless!

And I couldnt agree more, die Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless. Or at least can their asses and subject them to watching the last 10 pirates baseball seasons on loop.

I think Stephen A. is a Knicks fan. Not a Lakers fan. Pretty sure he is. He is a HUGE Shaq affecianado however... which may be where you're thinking Lakers.

He's from New York originally, so that's where the Knicks thing comes from. He has worked in Philly, so he's a fan of the Sixers. And he's a worthless bastard, so he's a Lakers fan.

SportsCenter has sucked since the turn of the century.

They need to tone it down and focus on Sports highlights and not pop culture and everything else that isn't sports.

The worst is during football season...god damn ESPN, those Coors Light commercials were dumb when they first aired and they haven't magically gotten better.

And Steven A. Smith is probably the most annoying person on the planet. Along with Woody Page and Skip Bayless.

She's going to be on a new show on ESPN2:

ESPN looks back with scandal tale, historic mile

Mon Jul 18, 8:26 AM ET

ESPN's "Codebreakers," a movie about the 1951 Army football team that saw several members (including the coach's son) expelled for cheating on tests in a scandal that rocked West Point and beyond, will kick off Dec. 10 on the sports cable giant.

While the Scott Glenn starrer deals with an academic scandal, executive producer Orly Adelson said Sunday that "Codebreakers" is still very much a sports story. One of the major scenes is a staging of the 1951 Army-Navy football game, Adelson said.

Adelson and others associated with ESPN discussed "Codebreakers," another upcoming movie "Four Minutes" and ESPN2's new "ESPN Hollywood," a nightly series that will debut Aug. 15, during the Television Critics Assn.'s summer press tour at the Beverly Hilton.

"Four Minutes" spotlights Sir Roger Bannister, the British medical student who ran the first less-than-four-minute mile in 1954. It stars Christopher Plummer and Jamie Maclachlan.

It wasn't done with the cooperation of Bannister, now 76, who had committed to another movie project on the same topic, Abrams said.

"ESPN Hollywood" will be an "Access Hollywood"- or "Entertainment Tonight"-style show but focused squarely on the intersection between Hollywood, celebrity and sports stars.

"We're trying to bring the same fun, energy and excitement to the world of sports," said executive producer Andy Meyers said, a former producer at "Entertainment Tonight."

Thea Andrews, formerly of ESPN's "Cold Pizza," will host with a personality expected to be announced within the next few weeks.

haha, bill simmons had the best quote for Smith that I've seen in awhile: "I'd rewrite what he just said on the air, but I don't have a font size big enough."

I don't mind him too much. He's an arrogant prick, but, meh... he's tolerable.

I only tolerate Bayless because he's the only guy in the sports industry to have the balls to call TO out, invite him on his show, and let him defend himself and everything he does. It was awesome cuz TO came and challenged Bayless to defend himself to his face, and Bayless then came out and invited him on Cold Pizza, saying that TO can even decide what to talk about, and Bayless will still show everyone that TO is a piece of shit.

Jay Mariotti has been hosting PTI this week with Wilbon. Is he filling in for Kornheiser very well? I wanna watch it but don't get ESPN currently, which sucks. I could actually see Mariotti doing a fairly good job on that show opposite of Wilbon. Porbably not as good as TK, but still, few people are.

By the way: That show SHOULD have Bill Simmons on, as he's fucking hilarious.

ESPN can be pretty entertaining sometimes but I find it annoying watching sportscenter with all the previews of whats to come later in the show........just show it already! most of the shows suck except for the ones specific to NBA NFL and MLB coverage. they need to stop with the original programming that doesnt include genuine atheletes in a documentary style presentation. or at least stop showing commercial after commercial or the same dumb ass movie about poker. I cant even stand NFL Prime Time because they only show it for an hour and fail to show some of the better plays of most of the games.

I agree with hgplayer. ESPN is turning into an unwatchable MTV-style mess. For about 10 years after 1993 I just didn't feel right unless I had watched Sportscenter that day. Now I watch it--typically 20 minutes or less--about 1 day in 3. Part of that is the internet, but it is also beause it has become so damn grating. The endless promos, the ridiculous catch phrases, the bizarre, schtik-laden personalities (Stephen A. Smith and Mariotti principally). Also at some point you just have to ask yourself whether you really care who won the Rangers-Mariners game last night.

I like PTI, NFL Live, and sometimes Baseball Tonight. I still LOVE College Gameday and always will. But most of the rest of the shit is unwatchable.

thats what im saying. It feels like the MTV people took over ESPN or something. The other day i watched and the introduction was like 5 minutes long. Teaser of the "main story", then the introduction, then another teaser, and a bunch more previews of the rest of the "big stories". Sports fans aren't 14 year old girls, we dont need everything to be all "eXtreme" and in our face.

And for the love of god, PLEASE, stop showing And1 Basketball reruns.
