JMSN Blue Album. Dropped seemingly out of the blue.

I was about to post about it myself. I only stumbled into it by chance when songkick alerted me of a concert.

First impression is that it's a little more soulful and "mature" (attempted to be, at least) compared to his past work. Less of the dark griminess. I like his work enough to give it a few more scenes but I'm not in love with it so far.

holy moley

D’Angelo has finished his first new album in 14 years and will premiere it to the public during a listening session in New York on Sunday, December 14th. The follow-up to 2000’s Voodoo is titled Black Messiah and attributed to D’Angelo and his band the Vanguard.

Fans can RSVP to the listening session, which is being hosted by renowned African American writer Nelson George. The event takes place at the Dream Hotel in Chelsea beginning at 4pm.

Some info from the D'Angelo listening session thing.

During the listening session, a lyric pamphlet was handed out. It revealed that Q-Tip and Kendra Foster (Funkadelic) contributed lyrics, while ?uestlove, bassist Pino Palladino, and drummer James Gadson play on it. Here's the introduction, wherein D'Angelo discusses the decision to name the album Black Messiah:

Is there any word on when this is actually coming out?

I need some help trying to remember a song. It was from an EP, it was a girl singing and I think her name/group name was her name & the rest of the group name. I remember it was very mellow, I remember it had a very winter-y feel to it, it had a dreamlike feel to it, lots of faded shots into different scenes and I think there were cars.

I think the song may be 2-3 years old.

Not the best description in the world, sorry.
