Radiohead's OK Computer to Get DVD Treatment, Mercury Prize Nominees Announced

Thom Yorke, Thom Yorke, Thom Yorke. Upon last week's release of The Eraser [TMT Review], Thom's solo debut, it seems like everyone forgot that he's also in a band called Radiohead. Yes, he is!!

Anyway, I'm just kidding, everyone knows Radiohead. Grow up.

So, Radiohead released OK Computer back in '97 (what a great year for music), and now MVD and Sexy Intellectual are releasing a DVD documentary called Radiohead: OK Computer – A Classic Album Under Review. What, don't love the album? Hmmm, better think again, buddy:

* OK Computer is CD Universe's 26th all-time best seller!!!!!
* OK Computer is Amazon's 87th current best seller!!!!!

Now that you love the album, you should be excited to know that the DVD is 53 minutes long (the same length as the album) and includes "rare" musical performances, live and in-the-studio, of each OK Computer song. But, of course, that's not enough is it? Rumor has it that there are also COMMENTS AND CRITCISMS!! And you lucky, lucky Radiohead fans will also get some INSIGHTS from mother****in' Mark Paytress, ex-Mojo editor Barney "S my D" Hoskyns, ****in,' ****in' Alex Ogg, and more. But most importantly, there's a bonus video: "The Hardest Interactive Radiohead Quiz In The World Ever." God, I can't wait.

Finally, The Eraser has been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. Thom's album is nominated alongside Arctic Monkeys, Hot Chip, Scritti Politti, Editors, Muse, and some others. And in case you've always wondered what the OK Computer tracklist is, I've went ahead and typed it out for you:

1. Cherub Rock
2. Quiet
3. Today
4. Hummer
5. Rocket
6. Disarm
7. Soma
8. Geek U. S. A.
9. Mayonaise
10. Spaceboy
11. Silver****
12. Sweet Sweet
13. Luna

I don't know what that was supposed to mean.

(Much respect to the guy who wrote this for putting in the Siamese Dream tracklisting instead :lol)

Oh, I read it too fast I guess. :lol

I'll most likely pick it up. I'd love to see them in the studio actually recording the album.. It would be cool to hear maybe earlier rough versions of the songs. Here's hoping.

What's this...? Why, it's Jonny Greenwood, sporting a ZERO shirt!

It's on the Meeting People is Easy DVD. I captured that myself!

DENIAL

It's ok, that's back when

A) The Pumpkins had a sort of tangential relevance, and

B) Johnny was on a lot of drugs. Like, White Man levels of drugs.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

What kind of tangential relevance does Thom Yokre have? If The Eraser is an indication, not a whole lot, anymore!

You guys crack me up. I love you all, though

Are you out of your ****ing mind :lol

You rabid Radiohead fans just can't accept the truth. :lol

If you actually had the DVD, it's a scene where Thom decides to stay in a back room and not party. Colin and Jonny are with him. They get changed. It then shows Colin and Jonny out at the party, goes back to Thom pacing in the room, and shows Colin again going up some steps and having fun. It's definitely Jonny Greenwood.

There is seriously something WRONG with you if you can't accept the fact that Jonny Greenwood might like SP. God forbid.

I'm not a rabid radiohead fan, I mean that really really looks like brenda from six feet under and I, infact, think it might actually be her.

Yeah... that would be amazing. I'd also love bonus stuff, like maybe Big Boots, Follow Me Around, and Big Ideas, performed in the studio.

Thom Yorke has PLENTY of relevance, tangential or otherwise. His excellent new solo effort, aside from being declared album of the year by one Johan van Benderschlotten, music critic extrordinaire, was nominated for a Mercury award and will likely be nominated for a Grammy or three next year. Also, his band Radiohead are touring and playing killer new songs. Unlike, say, Billy Corgan. Who released a flaccid turd of an album that met with no acclaim whatsoever and whose ridonkulously inflated head will undoubtedly torepedo his bands reunion tour efforts. But keep dreaming in that magical wonderland of yours Diablos, where Billy is half the musician/artist that Thom is. I bet you have gumdrop trees there, huh?

Dude, his solo effort is ten times better than Thom's. Which isn't saying much, but it is.

Also, to call the Thom Yorke album totally solo is a joke. Did you hear the sound opinions interview? Jim and Greg were right, it's basically "Thom Yorke and Friends" (or basically, RADIOHEAD).

Wow, you must be really upset. Calm down! :lol

Declaring Corgan's solo effort better than Yorke's great, somber "The Eraser" is willingly applying for Lunatic Inn - of course - but getting back to the subject at hand: Who the hell knows what this dvd will be like, it might be boring, hopefully it's not a cheap cash-in.

Why are you taking me seriously. I obviously don't actually think that is brenda from six feet under. You're weirder than a rabid radiohead fan.

1000 times no.

They're both pretty weak, if you actually read the post correctly.

A making of OK Computer is no cash-in, it'll be worth buying.

Sorry, I got you confused with the usual Radiohead fan banter. I apologize.

1000 times no.
There is nothing really that special about either album. I do think the songs that stand out on TheFutureEmbrace are much better.

Just messing around. I don't outright hate the Pumpkins (own Siamese Dream) but think that Corgan's an egomaniac. Meh.
I know. But, oh no, a rocker being an egomaniac? I've never heard of such of a thing. A lot of the world's greatest rock bands were/are driven by egomaniacs.

This is true. Okay, how about this...his personality and his voice tend to annoy me after sustained listening. Unlike other egomaniacs, like Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame, who are just funny.

I see what you're saying. It's just that certain fanbases out there think there's some kind of rulebook as to how a band and its assumed leader is to act. I could care less if Billy Corgan is regarded as a tyrant or a generally nice guy, all that matters to me is if bands make good music. I appreciate musicians who take their music seriously. I would rather have bands like SP even if there was a lot of ego that went along with it, instead of 99% of the crap the mainstream shits out every day right now. Also, Billy was a lot more *vocal* about the way he felt. I'm sure there are a ton of other bands whose lead singers have egos that you would never suspect.

You also have to consider the time in which these bands were really active. Had Pink Floyd done the same type of things but started in the 80's or 90's, you could've seen a very egotistic nasty side as well. Everything with successful bands is so up close and personal these days. There's so much exposure.

Why Billy, oh why couldn't you have made a consistent album? Mina Loy was godlike, and Walking Shade was nice, but everything else kinda made me snooze. Yorke's album has Harrowdown Hill and that carries the whole album, to be honest. Okay, not really, but it's a damn good song.

I personally hate Walking Shade, terrible choice for a first single. Should've picked Mina Loy or A100.

TFE is actually pretty consistant overall, it brings on an awesome meshing of The Cure, My Bloody Valentine and Depeche Mode. It's just that, overall, it doesn't have much lasting appeal and a good half of the songs are easily forgettable, just like The Eraser.

I only hold TFE with higher regard BECAUSE it takes on that certain meshing of sounds that Corgan hasn't really done in such a way before... whereas a good chunk of The Eraser sounds like Amnesiac 2.0. And I really do think the songs that stand out on TFE are better.

Oh yeah, A100 was good too. But wasn't there a three song sampler out before the album with Walking Shade, Mina Loy, and A100 on it? I listened to that over and over. No wonder I was disappointed with the album.

I remember way back when on MTV Billy Corgan said something to the extent of, “I can see James Iha doing a ‘best of the Smashing Pumpkins’ tour, it could have that guy from Radiohead on vocals.” Oh Billy, if only you’d have learned more than just C, G, and E power chords, and had just a little semblance of artistic vision this might have been true.

I have a joke: What do you call Smashing Pumpkins fans when they go to university and learn what real art music is?

Radiohead fans

It's funny because it's true

That's a really dumb ****ing joke because it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Fixed.

People that hate on Corgan (like you) for cool points -- or a means to look like they have some kind of awesome credibility -- come off as being far more pretentious themselves than they make Corgan out to be.

So what I said is wrong? A lot of rabid Radiohead fans aren't former rabid SP fans?

Plus I was just joking
a little
. Siamese Dream is a spectacular album and MACHINA is far underrated. But ultimately Smashing Pumpkins won't have the longevity Radiohead will.

That's not exactly true.

Also, Machina is easily their worst album. Machina 2 > Machina.
