Rallisport vs Collin McCrae

I have Rallisport Challenge 2 and think its an awesome game. For me, its the best racer out there. However, a friend of mine LOVES Rally racing (owns a Subaru Impreza STI) and just bought an Xbox today. He wants to know which racing game he should get. Since I have not played Collin, I cannot comment other than to say Rallisport is awesome.

Keep in mind he sucks at games and I doubt he'll ever subscribe to LIVE. Thanks in advance!

If he's that big of a rally fan then McRae is the better choice, it's by far the better 'rally' game. I love RSC2 but it's not really rally in all honesty.

If he lives in the US he should get both--RalliSport 2 is $20 at EB and GameStop, and Colin McRae 2005 is $30.

As a rally game, Colin McRae is much more accurate. I prefer it to RalliSport 2, but RalliSport 2 ain't a slouch, either.

mcrae is more true to the sport, but i am hard pressed to say its a better game...

buy both. cmr04 should be cheap, and rsc2 is cheap. its a no brainer

Hmm, how does the SR series stack up?

What Rallisport has that neither of the other rally games have though, is a bigger representation of the different rally sports. You don`t find hillclimb, rallycross and ice racing in the other games. The others are just strict WRC rallying. That is "time trial" racing only.

And because of that there are also more different cars in RSC, ranging from the normal "slow" 300hp rally cars, 500-600hp rallycross cars and hillclimb monsters which have up to 1000hp among others.

Unfortunately, hillclimb is the only one RalliSport does very well. Rallycross and ice racing are pretty dumb as shit, and the rally stage racing would be good if the co-driver didn't give the worst driving notes ever.

Its never an issue in a game this arcadey. The on screen arrows are more than enough. This isnt a simulation and quite honestly i dont even use the pace notes from the co driver.

Ice racing isnt as good as RSC 1 but its not that interesting anyway.

Dumb as shit? The rallycross and ice racing events are pretty true to how they are in real life. Maybe they`re not fun to you, but they`re pretty accurate.

Strange thing is, Europeans seem to love Colin McRae Rally much more. It's like the Winning Eleven of the Rally games, in that there are other better looking rallygames out there but they don't hold a candle to Colin McRae Rally's coregameplay. I don't know about Rallisport Challenge, but I truelly love Colin McRae, especially parts 2 and 4.

There`s more than enough options for it too, advanced co driver or simple, arrows or a map. I don`t see it as a big problem either exactly.

Not really. Maybe before but not really anymore. Colin 05 did pretty bad.
The WRC games are by far the most popular in Europe now. It`s PS2 exclusive though.

Just think of RSC2 as Sega Rally 3. Its an arcade racer fans wet dream.

Yeah, but I'm talking press and rallyfans here. WRC games are selling shitloads to the masses, like the FIFA games. Colin McRae seems to be the rallyfan's game of choice. I see it promoted throughout WRC viewings on Dutch TV by enthusiasts, with no mention of the WRC series.

Ryudo, sounds good to me. Going to try that out as soon as I borrow my friend's Xbox.

Richard Burns Rally is supposed to be most realistic of the bunch, but supposedly unplayable without a wheel, so I've been shying away from the xbox version..

No way, if anything it`s vice versa. Colin McRae is a far more mainstream series, or atleast always have been, than the WRC games. WRC is also more realistic than the Colin games. It`s like the opposite of the Fifa - Pes situation where the official game is actually better on all accounts.

And for the true rally fan that would want the best of realism,he would look nowhere else than to Richard Burns rally. I can only assume that people who think Colin is so good and realistic really haven`t played many other rally games.

RSC2 is great but like others have pointed out, it is more of an arcade rally game.

Collin McRae is great, a much better rally game. I would go for the 2004 version that includes TOCA 2.

I swear, the best part of this game is four players with collision detection on and knocking someone off a cliff and hearing them react in frustration.

I know from experience! :lol

The most realistic rally game ever might still be Mobil 1 British Rally Championship on PC released several years ago. Of course I completely suck at it, but maybe I'd do better with a wheel. Anyway the stages are authentic and are 10 to 20 minutes in length. Means you're in shit if you damage your car, which is easy to do.

Outside of the arcade version of Sega Rally 2, Colin McRae 2 might still be my favourite rally game ever...it completely blew me away when I first got it, and I'll always have a soft spot for it. I like McRae 4 and 5 a lot as well. Also like RSC2, though I haven't played it as much as the other games. And I've got a used import copy of WRC2 sitting in my cupboard, waiting for a PS2 mod to run it.

WRC4 comes out in Japan this week I think.

RBR on xbox is by far the worst version, get on PC or PS2.
