Stallone Promises Fans a 'Rambo IV'
http://us.imdb.com/news/wenn/

January 18, 2005

Sylvester Stallone has promised fans of his Rambo franchise they can expect another installment of the all-action series - even though he's nearly 60. Stallone, who is currently 58 years old, is holding talks with movie bosses about resurrecting the 80s blockbusters, which centered on a violent, disillusioned Vietnam veteran. He says, "We're in the kitchen and we're cooking. I've had meetings about this and it looks good. We'll see what we come up with."

There was, I can remember trading a friend for it as a kid.

All I know is, you don't talk to the chick at the end of the NES game or she dies.

That, and you had to do some messed up wall-hop to escape from the prison cell.

SMS Rambo III was a pretty good Operation Wolf clone.

the only other thing as far as Rambo that interests me is something that probably nobody gives a damn about

that scene from Genesis Rambo III in the middle left of this poster, never seemed to be in the actual Genesis game. I've always wondered about that.

First Blood is a good movie.

The other two are crap.
Well, first blood was ok. Then James Cameron took a shit all over it.

easy tiger, Camerons script was torn apart by Stallone. you can read Jimbo's script online and compare it to the shooting script.

huge difference.

facts. know. your.... etc...;)

Don't forget Rambo II for Master System!!

It was a Commando-like game...kinda average compared to Capcom's legendary game, but still fun. I had a similiar game on C64 that might've been developed by the same guys, but I've never known for sure.

It is happening now:

Nu Image/ Millennium Films begins ‘Rambo IV’ in 2006 London, England (28 May, 2005) – ‘Rambo IV’ begins preliminary shooting in Bulgaria in January 2006, as Nu Image/ Millennium Films acquire film rights from Miramax/ Dimension Films.

US-based film production company Nu Image/ Millennium Films have acquired the film rights to the ‘Rambo’ film franchise from Miramax/ Dimension Films, with principal shooting for ‘Rambo IV’ to begin in Sofia, Bulgaria in January 2006, with filming locations in India and the USA.

Sylvester Stallone, the Italian-American film actor who played the titular role in the ‘Rambo’ film trilogy, signed with Nu Image/ Millennium Films to begin ‘Rambo IV’ in May 2005, stating that the production company had optioned a book for the new ‘Rambo’, for which he has adapted a complete script, likening it to vengeance films like ‘Deliverance’ and ‘Straw Dogs’. According to Stallone, the new plotline sees the character of Rambo as having “assimilated into the tapestry of America”, living with his family in relative peace for the past fifteen years but still working for the military, when work pressures force him to move his family to the American outback. The Navajo-Indian former Green Beret and his family are then subject to an attack by white-supremacists, and Rambo has to risk life-and-limb in rescuing his 10-year old daughter from being held hostage. Commentators have noted that the premise of the film is similar to one touted by Stallone in 1997, following the Oklahoma bombings, and comparisons have been drawn with the US federal government’s attack at Ruby Ridge in 1991, including the role played by former Green Beret Colonel James “Bo” Gritz.

I never saw the one with him as a fugitive. I caught a few mins of it on Spanish TV but Rambo does not sound like Rambo

I saw Rambo I for the first time a few weeks ago, awesome movie.

Hopefully this Rambo IV isn't "straight to DVD" quality, although that plot sounds like it :(

How did the self-stitching scene hold up? That part always freaked me out as a kid.

As a kid I was also against Rambo III as a title. You can't go from First Blood to Rambo:First Blood Part II to Rambo III. It's Rambo II:First Blood Part III. This still inexplicably bothers me despite sleeping through "Rambo II" and never watching Rambo III. The cartoon was pretty cool for the time though. I still have my survival knife and jade statue necklace :)

Also of note is how "Rambo" became a derogatory term for meathead in the 80's. I can't really take the name seriously to this day.

The game "Zoom!" listed at the bottom left also shows a pic of Phantasy Star II. :)

Perhaps my knowledge of weapons is a littlebit shaky, but is anyone else concerned by the fact that Rambo appears to have an RPG stuck to the end of his belt fed machine gun?

rambo is also a term for a fps gamer running headlong into a mob of enemies (and most times dying)

Same point, but we didn't have FPS when we coined the phrase.

rambo on the SMS was awesome. put many hours into it. a great Ikari Warriors(?) clone. first game I actually remember that did depth in 2D on a home console by walking underneath the camo netting.

That's awesome. I was just thinking about how cool a new Rambo would be last week, when a SNL with Stallone came on the E.

Damn I miss the 80's.

I (honest to god) have a episode of the Rambo cartoon on a tape from 1987. I've posted it on a newsgroup before. perhaps I should again or even torrent it. I've identified the episode as #20- Enter The Black Dragon. It is amazingly cheesy.

edit: Holy shit, nevermind! Rambo cartoon on DVD?

Yup
