Rare Hints At Killer Instinct 3

Er, more like Virtua Fighter 5, Soul Calubur 3 and Dead or Alive 4. ;)

I still think a Killer Instinct 1+2 DS cheapo port makes the most sense. Easy money there.
A port would be nice, rather than trying to reinvent themselves to compete with serious companies.

Some fighters on the DS would be pretty cool with a wireless connection, even if it was KI. Any word on the possibility of some older SF titles showing up on the DS?

fuck rare

they've been teasing with this shit for ages

I loved KI 1 and 2 and I just know I JUST FUCKING KNOW that if a 3rd one was ever made it would play like a generic 3D fighter like the craptacular mortal kombats just to fucking spite me

*gives rare the finger as hard as I possibly can*

The only thing confirmed is obviously Jump Super Stars. Soul Calibur is rumored too... I think DS would be ideal for Capcom's Vs fighters though with it's vertically oriented screens.

And to think, Nintendo sold this company for THREE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS, and Sega sold VC, a company that actually makes games (and makes them well), for a sack of magic beans.

This is why Nintendo will never go the way of Sega in this industry.

Hey! There's no need to kick Rare while they're down.

Besides, its not even true. Rare has released plenty of games since MS bought them. Sure, they were games for THQ and Nintendo, but they STILL COUNT! ;)

As much as I love KI for what it is, I wonder how well the character design(especially the assy T.J. Combo) could hold up...they'd have to be majorly revamped. It also remains to be seen how well it'll translate into 3D gameplay. But on the graphic and sound side of things, things should be just fine. Next gen should be powerful enough to meet or exceed KI's pre-rendered/FMV characters/backgrounds.

Man, THIS generation was enough to exceed KI's pre-rendered/FMV characters/backgrounds.

I have lost any hope of KI3, but I'd settle for 1 and 2 on xbox with live support. They could always add Master Chief.

Since it takes 5+ years for them to remake a N64 game I reckon we'll see this new "KI3" around 2015.

Hey, let's be fair...they remade Dinosaur Planet in only two years. But I guess they're having a harder time harnessing the POWER OF THE XBOX.

Microsoft should use Rare to make games in genres the Xbox is lacking, for example Sony snagged Dark Could and Jak and Daxter they kind of give PS2 owners a Mario/Zelda substitute.

This totalvideogames.com site is really on the ball. This "news" is as old as the fucking demo.

Exactement.

Screenshots of a) Conker playing Killer Instinct on a GBA and b) the KI advert this article mentions have both been doing the rounds since as early as August LAST YEAR.

Fucking idiots.

On a related note... hmm, edit, I wanted to comment on a nice KI1/KI2 arcade perfect package but seems it could be against TOS.

Er, except much, much worse. To their credit though, they were slightly more successcul than Sony's Halo substitute. :P

Tekken 4, Tekken Tag, DBZ Budokai 1-3, DOA3 and the GC Narutos have done pretty well too.

True. I was just talking about the US, since I doubt KI would have a chance to sell in Japan, even if it weren't on Xbox.

The Tekken games are popular fighters, and DoA3 was a launch title with pretty graphics and boobs. The DBZ games sold mostly because of the license, although 3 was actually pretty decent.

So unless KI comes out at Xbox 360 launch and has amazing graphics and Orchid shows her boobs to the player this time, I doubt this would sell well. Even if it came at launch, if DoA4 is released at launch too then Rare just wasted god knows how many years.

:lol :lol This thread is great.

I think everyone is underestimating KI. It was VERY popular back in the day. The original was on the level of MK and SF II back then. If the game was good and had good marketing I could see it being a pretty big success.

The thing is, Conker was announced like right around the time of Diddy Kong Racing, I think. took them like 5-6 years to make it. and then they started remaking it two years later, which they've been doing for the last 3 years. I mean, wtf?

Maybe you guys have been tainted by nostalgia, i jsut remember KI2 being really cheap. Moveback press forward input combo rinse repeat. Also Orchid was the only person ever needed to pick.

Uh, or not. Orchid isn't even a charge character in KI2. And nostalgia has nothing to do with it, I still play the game.

And Cinder was awesome. Him being dead was the only thing I really hate about KI2. He should have been in instead of lame Kim Wu.

I suspect the low interest this thread has garnered is most likely representative of the general populace's interest in the KI series at this point.

I think it has more to do with the fact that they work on games for god knows how many years and they just don't live up to expectations, while other companies seem to release 2, 3, or even sometimes 4 games in the span of time it takes them to make 1.

GAF should never be taken as representative of the general populace's interest in a fighting game. Just going by GAF you'd think Tekken and MK are dead, when both series constantly outsell games like VF and 3rd Strike.

Man, even after all this time, the nintendo fanboys are still hurting from the rare split :lol

That and the fact that GAF hates xbox just makes this thread gold. Its open season folks, show your prejudice. Theres plenty more to harp on about;

Its not japanese.
Its not on PS2.
It doesnt have anything to do with anime.
It doesnt feature a snake or a mullet.
Its M$.
Its got bad art.
Theres no boobies.
Its not original.

Cmon kiddies ......

I Googled for Killer Instinct and found this.

Seriously though, I don't understand why MS isn't using Rare's IP's. They own them right?

Meh. Conker 1 has seen many changes in direction throughout its lifespan. It started out as a totally kiddie game and went the way of violence and swearing.

As for the remake, they've only been working on it since the MS acquisition, which means just a little over 2 years ago. So 2.5 years to develop what is two games in one (remake + huge online mode) is quite a feat for Rare, I'd say.

I agree, it is! which is why we won't see it out for another 2.5!

Oh shut up. With the demo recently released, I bet the game is finished and MS is just waiting for a "proper" time to release it.

That wasn't my whole quote, though -- I was mainly drawing an incidental parallel I believe really does exist, not suggesting that GAF's tastes mirror those of the mainstream.

That's just ridiculous.

Most of them, yeah (Nintendo obviously has the Donkey Kong Country rights, but IIRC everything else is Rare's, including KI, PD, BK, etc.) I think Banjo-Kazooie may appear in some form on Xenon early on in the system's lifespan -- that'd be the best time for it. On Xbox, it'd just be pointless.

You mean apart from IN THE ARCADES BY A 1000% MARGIIN, and also THE LAST "TEKKEN VS VF" (4) on console?! Pah!

According to this interview, (http://games.kikizo.com/features/rareware_int.asp) they still own most of their shiz. Obv not DK et al.
