RDR 3 main character should be a slave

Just an idea that I wish for the game, something more interesting than another mid aged white guy looking for his white family story in the wild west part 2.
The premise could be behind a slave in that setting and time trying to earn his freedom. It could provide much more interesting content, and tackle complicated issues that the country faced and still is. I think it will come at a perfect time as more and more mediums are discussing the topics of slavery and racism.

I don't know, maybe I just really want a Django like RDR game made by Rockstar where you shoot up slave owners.

You think a slavery/revenge story is somehow more "fresh" than a frontiersman finding their family, etc? They've both been pretty much done.

"Interesting content" has a lot less to do with the premise of the story, than it does how the story is told, ie) writing.

Agree that diversity could really bring some interesting stories and situations into the game play. I would love if there were a possible woman protagonist as well. I want it all! So many interesting possibilities.

Loved Marston, but don't really want to see him again. I feel satisfied with what I got from Redemption.

There are games about slavery in America?

I don't think Marston will be back. R* doesn't usually carry over protagonists in sequels and Marston's voice actor basically retired from gaming completely after Red Dead.

That could be interesting.

A woman, a slave and a Native American would all be characters that would let them tell interesting stories that could be different than most others in the genre.

That said, I hated switching in GTA V. I think I like the Yakuza 4 style better

I'd love this set up maybe make the slave a buffalo soldier but yeah Red Dead has so much potential.

Liked the GTA 5 model with 3 characters, we can have a black and Mexican character with some white guy tagging along.
One of them could also be female would be a first for rock star i believe a female main character

It's like nobody here even played Red Dead Revolver.

Yes please. The Good, The Bad AND The Ugly. Be nice (but unlikely) to be able to do 3-player Co-op campaign too. :)

They're not mutually exclusive.

Exactly

OP is basically describing RDDjango and well since RDR is my favourite game and Django is one of my favourite movies...OP: I'm in. Bigtime.

Fantastic idea.

Yeah, I would love to have a slave main character, male or female, or a Native American main character, male or female. Nothing against white male leads, as John Marston is hands down one of the top tier protagonists in any game, but it'd be so awesome to play as a freed or escaped slave, or a native american woman.

I didn't have an issue with GTAV's multiple protagonists, and a western certainly lends itself to multiple perspectives really nicely. I wouldn't complain either way. Rockstar makes good shit, with RDR being one of their best games (I'd say my favorite of every game they've made thus far, truth told), and I adore Vice City, San Andreas, and Bully). The narrative of a game focused on a slave or Native American practically writes itself. Lots of great content and conflict, and Rockstar does such a great job with characterization and supporting cast members. I just want to play a Rockstar game with a female lead. A badass black slave woman or Native American woman would be fantastic. Why not both, I guess!

Oh man, I just had the idea of Rockstar doing to Django what they did to The Warriors, and I got all happy. An adaptation of that movie, but set in an open world frontier could be fucking awesome in video game form, especially with Rockstar developing it. The Warriors was a fantastic game based on an awesome movie.

I don't care what they do or who the main character(s) is/are so long as:
1) I care about the character and the character is believable.
2) The character is NOT a caricature.
2) The script is well written (and most Rockstar games are).
3) Not just a heavily politicized message simply to get attention from the press.

That main character could be black, white, asian, native american, hispanic/latino, male/female, young/old, LGBTQ, whatever I don't care so long as it is well done. The main character could even be a middle aged white man (again) if it is written well enough. There are thousands of stories that can still be told about the old West.

Actually now that I think about it, if I had my wish I think I would love playing as some slightly overweight, older mother who just had enough BS from the evil ranchers or whoever and decided to protect her family and just go guns fucking blazing on their asses - and on anyone else who gets in her way. You just don't mess with a strong woman when she means business and that would be a fun departure from the way most women are unfortunately portrayed in video games (weak, overly princess-y, requiring a "man" for everything, etc.). And yes I know my avatar's icon is one of those overly "pretty" female looking characters but she is from the game Malicious and isn't truly alive - she is a "soul vessel" and it amuses me to kick ass with what appears to be a weak little girl. Or maybe I just have issues... :)

Nothing against playing a black protagonist, or more specifically a slave if they did it well.

I DO have something against another Red Dead just being a recreation of Django.

EDIT: And while I LOVED Django for what it was, I also liked the respect and homage paid to the Western genre with Red Dead's more serious tone. I hope that remains. So again, make whatever you want, black dude getting his own back is a damn cool idea, but make sure it ISN'T Django.

If they're doing the 3 character thing again (which I don't necessarily think they have to do, or even executed that well in GTAV), I'd be interested in seeing:

- Escaped slave turned angel of vengeance with a huge bounty on his head.
- Deadwood-esque Calamity Jane type female gunslinger out for revenge for the murder of her family
- Native American tracker turned bounty hunter walking the line between being amazing at what he does but living in a post American Indian War society

They're all brought together at a saloon within the first few hours through a series of events which forces them to team up because they each have information the other needs. Very abrasive, uneasy partnership leading to lots of great verbal jousting and campfire moments, and lots of crisscrossing story threads involving Black people, Natives, Mexicans, Chinese, etc. A game focused on the downtrodden people of the time, looking in on the outlaws and powers that be from the outside, attempting to carve a path for themselves in a white male dominated Civil War/gold rush/frontier backdrop.

Minority slavery thing is already a bit played out for me. Assassin's Creed already did enough for me with Liberation and Black Flag. I think Rockstar is one of the few developers who could pull off a change in perspective like the one I proposed
Played out? How many games have there been over the course of gaming that would warrant such an interesting response?
What's wrong with having a white protagonist ?
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

my dream scenario:

Female Black ex-slave

Female Native American

Male Chinese who is super hot and sexy

Male Mexican ex-soldier

Wow that game would just on paper provide be so much more interesting
