RE0 Early Access stream

CarcinogenSDA, a well known speed runner for the RE series (classic ones) got the early access for RE0 and it is streaming the entire game right now.

Not sure if it is allowed to us to post streaming links, so I'm sorry in advance if we are not supposed to.

Anyway, the game is looking great, looks like the same treatment RE1 had. I'm quite hyped for RE2 remake right now. Enjoy.

How'd he get early access? This game I can't believe is coming out after MLK day which is a great day to stay home and play vidyas!

I'm assuming it's a sponsored thing.

Game looks awesome. Was never really into survival horror, but I did The Evil Within after the fall sale and just finished RE Revelations 2, so I'm hoping this is good.

I think CAPCOM contacted him to promote the game in his stream. He's got multiple WR runs on RE1R and RE2, makes sense to let such an avid RE player to have early access.

I feel like I'm the only person that likes tank controls. Seems like in every video, people use the modern controls.

Whoops. Apparently Carcinogen streamed parts of the game he wasn't allowed to, which is really silly because the game is already hella old!

For speedruns? Modern controls have too many benefits to ignore. But normal gamers should be using the original controls as the games were balanced for those (and it looks nicer)

I was watching when it happened. I don't understand WHY they would be upset. Like you said, the game is old.

Poor guy seemed upset that he made a mistake too.

He is gonna play from the beggining in hard mode so if people want to see the game they have another chance :P

The costumes are really good btw, they did a good job at this.

I can't stand the modern controls in remake, tbh. Whenever the camera shifts I get incredibly disoriented since the direction you need to push to go forward, back, etc. changes too. At least with the tank controls I always feel oriented around where the character is facing even if the camera changes.

Press copies were allowed to be streamed as of yesterday up to the end of the Umbrella training facility, so I'd be surprised if he streams the whole game.

I streamed about two hours of it yesterday. It was my first time ever playing RE:0 and the item management in this game is a nightmare. Still had a good time though.

They confirm if the PS4 version is 60 or 30 fps?

AFAIK console are 30, PC is 60, but I only have the Xbox One version.

Crazy gorgeous. See no flaw other than outdated models! Sad that Remake didnt get the same great detailed backgrounds. At least I will go with the PC version on this game.

Nah, I love them in those games since they are designed that way. I haven't played the ones with modern controls yet though, so this release may be my first foray into it.

Only issue I have with tank controls is that I sometimes have to spend 10 minutes or so readjusting. Not a major issue with me.

Will he be the first person in the world to beat RE0 HD though?

So that basically confirms Capcom completed the HD port?
Interesting, the pre-rendered backgrounds in Zero HD look pretty great.

Yes, the game is completed. I received today my review copy of RE 0 HD. And if anyone is wondering, the embargo ends on January 19th at 0.01 GMT. Until then, there are limitations on what people can show on streams.

I thought so thanks for the insight, so review copies can only show game play till the Facility or until what point exactly?
So basically the review embargo falls at time of release of Zero HD on all platforms?

Looks good but everyone here seems to say it's not a good game? I never played it so couldn't tell you.

It's ok.

  • Item drop mechanic is interesting, but can be a bit clunky at times when attempting to manage things. This can be remedied by keeping most items in one room like the great hall, but that just makes it a more time consuming variation of the item box.
  • Setting is too similar to REmake with the mansion and labs. Some standout rooms, but generally those are restricted to boss fights. The train is about as unique as it gets.
  • The newer BOWs aren't as interesting or designed well at a gameplay standpoint. Boss fights, while visually interesting, don't play out particularly well.
  • If things at the end of Code Veronica got a little weird for you, Zero has something for you! Then again, someone must have liked those elements/revelations since similar elements popped up in RE6.

That being said, I do like the game, and hold it above Veronica, 5, and 6 by a good margin. In many ways, the biggest crime outside of trying to hard to be the first Resident Evil was that they really squandered their opportunity to flesh out this other mansion being a
training facility
to instead focus entirely on the
Dr. Marcus
nonsense.

Being the last of the classic games at a time when people were pretty burned out by them in where things were going in the narrative, repeating locales, and inability to keep up with what players expected from modern games also didn't do it any favors.

No problem. :)

You can only show up until the training facility basement, where the statues puzzle is. The embargo is for RE0 HD and RE Origins Collection and yes, the embargo ends at the same time the game is available on PSN (not sure about other digital plataforms).

Ah thanks, so basically Carci has to stop after the train crash, he is already there.
Thank you for the great insight again, one of the reasons I love GAF, first hand information :)

I think it's much better than CVX.

Oh, yeah then. They don't want to release the exact same day as Dogma on PC I assume.

Yeah, I guess the same, it is pretty close, Dogma on the 15th and Zero HD on the 19th.
I really disliked RE CVX, because of different reasons, one of them that it was a back step from RE 2 and RE 3.

In cae someone is now motivated to get it on steam at least a few traders are offering it for usd 14
I am getting it on ps4 as well and gotta ask
Does re0 have a 2 player mode of sorts :x

Playing RE0 on Gamecube, I always felt the game would have been a big deal with some sort of coop. Lan/Internet (Since prerendered splitscreen probably wouldn't work) would make the game pretty interesting. Would have been a lot of work though.

Thanks
Looking forward to playing this with my brother when it releases.
No problem buddy.

I feel like the concept created in 0 was used as the basis for Outbreak.

Just got around to preordering the game digitally on Xbox One. Not watching any streams, only played through the game once on GameCube many, many years ago. Don't wanna spoil it :).

I hope they do Outbreak as a multiplayer component for REmake2. I don't expect they will, but it would work better than trying to bring in Mercs again if they aren't going to have the controls of RE6.

A lot of misinformation in this thread about tank/modern controls in speedrunning.

REmake HD speedruns use both for example, because some zombie dodges/manipulations are only consistent when using one or the other. There's a controller setup that gives you tank on d-pad, modern on analog.

It's not just a flat "modern controls benefit speedrunning more".
