If you haven't already heard, the final issue of GMR will be shipped to subscribers in the beginning of January. As you can see on the cover image below, the issue will feature the first review of Resident Evil 4 anywhere, along with a feature spotlighting the 50 most exciting games to look forward to in 2005.

For those of you who are not subscribers and want to see the issue, we'll be posting the majority of its contents on 1UP, and the Resident Evil 4 review will go online at the same time as 1UP's own review of the game in early January.

I don't understand while a game like RE4 needs the exclusivity of one magazine. I mean, it's a huge game and coming out in a month where it's likely to get a magazine cover somewhere whether they agree to be exclusive or not, so what benefit do they get? Wouldn't it be better they got as many reviews out there for the game's release as possible?

Not that I care if only one mag gets the review this month, I just don't understand it.

What's so great about it? Capcom did most of the work.
A little thing called page layout. Not their best layout (from the covers i saw, that goes to the SCII covers), but still quite nice.

See how the logo is just an outline in the fire so not distract from the intensity of the flames? The way Leon is placed between the logo and the straplines to create an illusion of depth? The way the text is positioned so as to overlap as little as possible with the graphics? These covers don't make themselves, you know.

I don't see what's so good about it. Feels like a rush-job made in Photoshop, the background just doesn't go well with the character art. I don't see the point with fire? Why fire? WHY!? Just makes the background look way too busy. And it's not like the general layout is more amazing than your average mag. And you can barely see the logo...well, I guess it doesn't matter anymore, but still...

XBN's SCII cover was even better. I'm still looking for an unmarred copy of that art.

That, and GMR's covers will be sorely missed.

That Soul Calibur II cover ruled. And it's the only one the Ziff offices doesn't stock in its library.

Such a great image. And the guy who did it is an amazing artist.

RE4 sports probably the nicest looking fire effects of any game.. so perhaps there is some connection afterall.

Seriously man... that's reaching. They slapped a picture from one of Capcom's media kits on top of a generic fire backdrop (that they probably got from some stock photography site) but because they integrated their logo and didn't just randomly throw text onto the page it's a work of art?

I didn't know that. Tell me more...

Does that automatically make it good?

Edge has/had better cover, sometimes, when it shows that they actually thought about it, which is more than can be said of pretty much every other games mag out there. This looks ok since it is clean and isn't overcrowded with slogans and images like most covers, but it's hardly amazing. Now, the cover for Edge issue 100, that's nice.

GAF should allow scans when this issue comes out since we can't buy it anyway.
according the linked news story most of it's going to be on 1up (i wasn't aware of that till i read the news story, but sounds like a good idea to me.)
