Ubisoft And Capcom Announce Distribution Agreement For Three Hit Video Game Titles

Resident Evil 4, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition Coming to PCs Beginning February 2006

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – FEBRUARY 1, 2006 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that it has signed an agreement with Capcom to distribute Resident Evil 4, Onimusha 3 and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition video games for the PC. Ubisoft will distribute Capcom's games in North American and European territories beginning in February 2006 with the release of Onimusha 3: Demon Siege.

"Capcom has created fantastic universes which have become blockbuster franchises," said Jay Cohen, vice president of publishing at Ubisoft. "Ubisoft is excited to be bringing three of the industry's most innovative titles, including Resident Evil 4, which has been recognized by many publications and organizations as the best game of the year for 2005, to PC gamers around the world."

Resident Evil 4 is a shining star in the survival horror genre garnering critical acclaim and numerous "Game of the Year" awards from media outlets including Game Informer magazine, North America's largest gaming magazine and GameSpot.com, a leading source for gaming information. Onimusha 3: Demon Siege stars French actor Jean Reno and is the latest episode in the Onimusha franchise. This action adventure series has become a phenomenon thanks to its amazing backdrop in medieval Japan mixed with heroic fantasy elements. Devil May Cry made an outstanding debut on console and quickly became a popular action game. Renowned for its gothic atmosphere, non-stop action and thrilling combat, the latest installment to the franchise adds a new character a new boss and many new levels.

"Capcom is excited to be taking advantage of Ubisoft's global distribution network to deliver our hottest titles for gamers around the world to play and enjoy," said Toshihiro Tokumaru, executive officer at Capcom. "We look forward to working together for continued growth for both companies."

Ports to PC platforms always end up being crappy. I guess it's good for the PC market, but I'm sure most people won't care anyways. It'll probably end up looking like ass.

If any effort is put into it, not only will it look better, but it'll play better as well. Add in the possibility of a mod community, and you've got awesomeness. :X

Judging from the Oni 3 PC port, which ran like garbage at pretty much standard PC resolutions (1024 x 768 and up), then these aren't anything to be excited about. DMC3 will play like crap on a keyboard anyway.

I wonder how a PC will handle the high speed action of DMC3. I have Onimusha 1 & 2 for PC and 3 would be whicked to finished off the series of ports :D either way I'll be buying all 3 ports.

What's up with Capcom's recent PC port frenzy?

I hope Ubisoft optimizes RE4 to work with keyboard + mouse controls. Maybe alter the movement a bit to make Leon work like a third person shooter. If they don't someone better be planning a mod for it when it releases.

I wonder how you will control RE4 on PC, I'm thinking something like arrow keys/awsd keys to move, mouse to look (like in FPS's), right click and hold mouse to go into weapon firing mode, left click to shoot. The events where you have to quickly press a button, like running away from and dodging boulders is gonna be tricky.

Or buy a controller... whichever's easier. ;)

Why, Capcom. Why.

(I know why, but...)

The best game of the last console-generation, and they flush it down the toilet.

When i hear pc-"gamers" talk about strafing and quicksave, i go: wtf?

They don't deserve this, and the game doesn't deserve this.

Sad.

Well yeah, that's the defacto answer to everything these days. Why is Capcom doing this now though, did they finally get off their duff to analyze the net profit these ports would provide or did they just happen to land a sweet deal with Ubisoft?

Don't jump the gun, I'm positive Ubisoft will do a quick and dirty port and not alter a thing other than optimizing it for the PC platform. You also forget that the PC gaming culture expects a few liberties that classic console design hasn't been able to provide in the past (quick saves, keyboard + mouse controls, etc). Although I've already played the game on the GameCube in the way the developers intended I'd like to give it another go with a different approach.

Err...Oni 2 never got a PC release.

And I'm willing to bet there will be no mouse support for RE4, because I'm quite sure these are lousy outsourced ports (if the same people who did Onimusha 3 do RE4 and DMC3)

ubisoft + capcom merger?

would be kinda hot, imho. perhaps merging stock would throw EA's hostile takeover plot out the window?

or, maybe they merge, and ea buys them both!

or, they're not gonna merge and this is purely interesting banter?

WTF?!

Capcom 1: We should port DMC3:SE on gamecube, you know -- the console that actually took care of our titles moreso than the PS2 (all multi games from Capcom sold more on GC than PS2 fyi).

Capcom 2: No, we've had DMC exclusive for 5 years now, in fact -- it's our longest running franchise that's been exclusive, and even milk free -- with no super editions and what have...save for DMC3:SE.

Capcom 1 + Capcom 2: Let's totally fuck all that up and put it on the PC with shitty controls! FUCK the gamecube, I mean, who cares that Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe, Viewtiful Joe 2, Resident Evil 4, MMC (basically all our games) performed better on the GC!

=(

What the fuck? PC gets DMC3: SE but Europe doesn't get the PS2 version?

You've hurt me Capcom, you've really, really hurt me.

"XBox stole PC-Gaming, mehehehehehehe".

:D

Sorry, Chief Borys.

@tekunoRobby:

Quicksave would be no "liberty" in RE4, since try and error is elemental, somehow.

seems to be a fair few people hoping these ports will be crap...wonder why that is.i personally think this is great news, cant wait to play resident evil 4 again and oni 3 and dmc 3 for the 1st time.control really isnt an issue, although some people dont seem to be aware theres pads on pc's :)

Awww...

This is indeed strange:

a) I've already beaten both RE:4 and DMC:3
b) but man, there is a chance they will look extra-fucking-gorgeous (pixel-shaders are a MUST)
c) do I want to buy them again at full price?

Hmmm... RE:4 - no doubt. I'll *finally* be able to print some high-res shots for my wallpaper :lol

DMC3 - no, thanks. There was this Capcom game ported to the PC recently, very similiar to DMC, I forgot the name, Chaos Legion? and it was pure crap.

Anyway, however you slice it - this is great news for PC gamers!

Now for the $1M dollar question - Dual Shock 2 or K&M?

As nice as these games will look on PC, it'll only depress me to know they won't have modding / level-editing features. I'd like to have a crack at editing something distinctively Japanese in design BEFORE I DIE. (shakes fist at Japan)

C'mon man, you are smarter than that.

Dual Shock 1/2, Xbox controller, 360 controller even Wiredbird work on the PC.

FLAWLESSLY.

I'm not hoping, I've played the JP version of the Onimusha 3 PC port and it's crap. It even says "Press O to absorb souls!". Wow, Capcom sure gave a damn! And :lol at the people going "PIXEL SHADERS NORMAL MAPPING FUTURE X360 PORT LA LA LA", Capcom didn't even change the PS2 controller symbols for the PC port, you think they'll add in things that actually take time?

maybe ppl will mod RE4 with missions and wep's, maybe even a RE2 remake using the RE4 engine. That would be cool.

yes. these will play 'bad' on pc because you have the option of plugging in a pad, but somehow a strictly analog-stick fps setup is ok.

I've played Onimusha 3 PC at a higher resolution, 100+ fps with zero slowdown with a AMD 3500+ Nvidia 6800GT setup. And just a reminder, buy a Dualshock 2 to USB adapter, I paid 8$ for mine and works flawlessly with every game I've tested.

Really? Ran like crap on my P4 6600 GT, and read a ton of other "BAD PORT" impressions all over the net, assumed it was like that for everyone. I also got massive slowdown during boss fights.

it must be a nintendo fan, children of Nincest

edit: My hopes for the RE4 port are rather simple: just a way to quickly switch between weapons and items without having to invoke the menu every time. It really took away from the so-called cinematic experience of RE4

I hope ubi does a nice job with RE4. The mods will make it SO much fun.
In fact, I can't wait to shoot DOA girls instead of villagers.

yes I heard it too here in GAF... anyway I've played it through without a single problem, even in the latter part with lots of enemies on screen the game never skips a frame. The worst part of the port are the cinematics (very poor quality, except for the intro) Try updating to your latest drivers.

The difference? I'm right.

For the few who will "buy" these titles, use a decent pad configured well, and enjoy them, great.

For the other ones who are simply gonna try and use mouse/KB, or better yet some crappy ass gamepad configured horribly, their impressions of those titles will be marred, and thus further PC fanboyism rages (oh yah ur goty 2005 i playd it it sux lawl!).

Get it? Got it? Good.

I can't believe people here are actually upset about these games being ported. RE4 will be better with a keyboard+mouse. I can't speak for DMC since I've never played those games, but I would imagine the 5 bucks on a Dual Shock 2 - USB adapter isn't going to hold anyone back from enjoying the experience.

I got my PS2 and Gamecube with something like 35 games, but seriously...PC gaming FTW.
