Well, it almost looks like it's using 24-bit color. Very nice.

The effect of next-gen is really setting in, though. That first shot made it seem as if the model had been downgraded...but...

They are exactly the same.

No, it really doesn't.

Look at my comparison there, for example. We've been spoiled by next-gen media. The assets are exactly the same.

Are you blind?

I own and play the Gamecube version regularly, and the difference is negligible.

I've arrived at the conclusion that one just cannot accurately make conclusions from screen captures. There are many different methods of capturing screens therefore comparing a Gamecube shot to a PS2 shot is more or less moot.

I guess, I dunno, the textures seems a lot more bland. I'll go play the GC version and see if it plays like I remember it.

It's the captures. The shots vary so heavily on this game. You know how awful the GC version often looked in shots. Can't really judge from these.

The actual textures, models, etc. are all the same.

There is a lot less blood on the women in this screen then the one in the GC version. :p

But It's little stuff like that which make the PS2 version worse.

The detail of Leon's hair, the number of branches on the trees(some of the trees in the PS2 version are just completely different), the amount fog, or the quality of the enemies far away are what make the PS2 version look worse than the GC verison.

But I only notice these differences in the outdoor sections, the indoor stuff looks pretty much the same.

The PS2 version looks a lot better than I thought it would turn out, but it's not identical to the GC version in my opinion.

Are the second and third shots from the GC version? The difference is like night and day between them. 0.o

Yeah, they are. Screen contents are the same, obviously, but it demonstrates just how big of an impact capture quality can have on something.

I'm really impressed Capcom was able to do such a great job porting this game. Did we ever find out if PS4 did the port or if it was one of the other studios?

This game so totally rocks. Who cares what platform it started on/ended on, everyone should support it and all its glory.
If only it were that simple.

Sadly people are so very stupid. No matter what console it comes to, it will still fucking OWN. And thats all that matters. Unless you are a stupid pussy who only gives a shit about one console.

Come on, you know it IS possible to actually care about the technology behind the game as well as the game itself.

Nice. I just watched the producers interviewer and damn, he wanted to do an online mode for the PS2 version but didn't have enough time!!
Oh man, online mercenaries mode would be killer. Co-op, deathmatch, oh yes....

Won't that be the truth!! I guess maybe RE5 and knowing Capcom perhaps maybe a Resident Evil 4: Super Duper Deluxe Difinitive Complete Turbo X Collector's Edition down the line.

I'm playing through the PS2 preview version right now and differences are really minor and hardly noticeable if you dont put the two versions side by side.

Gameplay wise, they are identical (yeah, aiming included).

How's the loading and dithering compare?

the PS2 doesnt do 720*480?

1. The aspect ratio of the screenshots are not correct (they might be default captures from DScaler)
2. The shots might be captured from a recorded video stream (which is usually 720x480)
3. The black borders are reserved space for TV overscan (exist on almost all games)
4. I suppose they selected 4:3 letterbox mode

But there's the Premium Edition for $50!

Anyway, I agree with there being a large variety in the quality of captures I've seen. Overall, it doesn't look quite as good as the GC version, but so long as it controls fine with good load times and framerate, I'll be happy. I love the GC version to death, but I'm a whore so I'll buy this for the new stuff.

Wow. There really are some stupid people here.

You *really* think this shit matters? REALLY? Cos I don't remember giving a fuck as a I unloaded an explosive dart into the leg of one of the villagers. And I don't remember caring about whether Ada's dress flowed any more graciously as I set up the puzzle round the back of the church for Leon to solve later. In fact, all I remember was thinking "Holy fuck! Capcom could have my arse any day of the week if it wanted. And if they offered lube, I would decline out of respect".

i dont know what youre talking about. "branches are different"? how the hell did you see that. in what picture? the fog is the same. the trees are the same. the only thing that is different are the enemies. btw the mercenaries mode in re4 looked worse than the real game so those pictures from that mode doesnt bother me. they looked the same except for the textures on the ps2 version.

So if it doesn't matter to you, it universally doesn't matter to all people? ¬¬

For those people who didn't bother to read through the Gamespot preview,

"For those looking to go through this adventure with a fine-tooth comb, you will certainly find elements that aren't exactly the same as the GC version. However, we doubt anyone will be surprised to hear that the PS2 game features less-detailed textures and special effects, and it's jaggier in a few more places than the GameCube version is. That said, this version is still a striking mix of technology and artistry."

So, it's clear that the PS2 version is not up-to-par with the GC version visually, but for all intents and purposes it is the same wonderful game which we all loved so much on the GC. Anyone who owns a PS2 and not a GC will be in for a real treat, but for those saying that there is no noticeable difference visually between the two versions - please stop the BS. The dev team did a great job with the PS2 version - it is not quite as good visually, but it contains more material. Not a bad trade-off.

What you won't see from a place like Gamespot, though, is judgement passed on the image quality. They recommended the GC version of PoP2, for example, which was an absolute mess compared to the other versions (very dithered).

RE4 PS2 seems to run in 24-bit color and should not suffer from such severe dithering. That, and the anamorphic widescreen should help...
