RE5 controls: Prepare to get rocked with awesome

It's possible that a lot of people who play Resident Evil 5 may not have played Resident Evil 4. But they might have played Gears of Wars or Call of Duty. Those are both games that I and our team really, really like. So don't be surprised if at the Tokyo Game Show, the controls are different. For now, we have the control set up for RE4. I'm not confirming or denying anything, but we like to surprise people.

Oh wow. oh wow oh wow oh wow this game is gonna oh wow

fuck yeah. maybe i shouldn't have bothered complaining about the tank controls in that other thread. or maybe i should keep complaining VERY LOUDLY until tgs

This game will be out in 9 months and it seems to already have progressed greatly. Maybe all the 'last gen' animations are just place holders for the moment? Though I'm not gonna hold my breath.

So, it's basically another gritty 3rd person shooter now.

How does this change that this is the sequel to the first real "gritty 3rd person shooter"?

THANK GOD! I was just talking about this in the IRC channel how the controls are archaic!

I can't wait to see the new control scheme, hopefully this means their is cover and new gameplay additions?

I hope you still have to stop + pop, I enjoyed that far, far more than other third person shooters. No strafing, please. Cover would be cool.

I heard RE4's clunky-ass controls were going to be great, too. I'm not falling for it anymore.

You do know it could just mean right analog look/aim, right?

Why would they change the entire "control" setup after going on and on about it being done purposefully.

I don't get what was so frustrating with Re4's controls. As long as you weren't an idiot and let yourself get surrounded you were fine. Whats next? RE6 is Squad based shooter? :lol

I'm all for more control options at this point. I'm used to the RE scheme, but not everyone is, so I don't mind Capcom letting others have a scheme they enjoy.

Ahem, I thought if I was stuck with the shitty RE4 Gamecube/wii control scheme I might as well just rent the new game.

Good. RE5 looks broken with the RE4 controls. RE4 controls worked because of the level design. RE5 doesn't seem to share the same philosophy, so this is a welcomed change.

Seriously. Left turned you left, right turned you right, holding up on the analog made you go forward. The tank controls didn't work in the older RE that well simply because you had a third person camera independent of movement, while RE4 was strictly behind you always. Really all I ask is the ability to strafe and do dodge movements.

Very interesting.

I liked the RE4 control scheme in the context of that game and the game style.
Exactly, it might not be as conventional, but it works perfectly. Im fucking pissed, just when i started to like the game...

Hmm, I wonder when they are going to make the next Resident Evil game?

It's been years since the last one :(

When you guys playing in a control scheme that is not RE4 complain that the game sucks I will be laughing in your face. (If it involves moving and shooting at the same time).

RE4 control scheme forever!!! (If you play with me online dont you dare use anything else). :P

As action-y as the game has become, this only makes sense... BUT. When you are aiming you should only be able to walk slowly around otherwise the game will break because enemies would become cannon fodder as they don't take cover like in Gears or other shooters, nor should they.

That said, I don't think he's talking about what most in here are thinking. I think he just means separating movement and aiming to the left and right sticks but still not being able to move while aiming (right stick will tilt camera as the C stick did on Gamecube when not aiming), THEN when you go into aim mode the left movement stick becomes dodge movements as was rumored a long time ago.

I would be happy with either one of those possibilities over the controls from RE4.

Something like that would be fine. Dual analog control mode would break the game I think, so I doubt that is happening. We shall see.

I don't know... right now enemies charge you at a full run and suddenly stop dead when they get next to you and go into that stupid "I'm blind and in a trance" state... you see it in all the vids.

If they give us dual analog control, then they can make the enemies more aggressive. Right now I get the feeling the enemies are gimped during CQB to make up for the tank controls.

I'm guessing it merely means moving shooting to triggers and making the right stick when WHEN aiming still.

Call of Duty 4's controls were great, Gears' control was great, and RE4 control was great.

I'm a winner?

Actually, yes! You just won E3. Congratulations!

I remember the producer saying that the game was inspired by Blackhawk Down where you have mobs chasing you and outnumber you.

In that case it would make sense to ditch the old controls for something suitable for fast paced gameplay

I don't want the RE4 control scheme, toss it in the garbage.

Wow if true. That would really change the gameplay, as in make it easier and less suspenseful, maybe. But I'm all for any kind of change.

Well, they could always just make the enemies that much harder and aggressive to balance it out. As we all know having duel wielding in many shooters doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be that much easier, just more streamlined conventional.

if RE5 has Gears controls, and RE5 PC has proper mouse and keyboard support, then :D
oh shi- didn't think of that.

Here's to hoping they don't fuck it up. Dunno why, but I have a bad feeling about this. :/
