SANTA CLARA, CA., (August 4, 2005) – Global video games publisher Namco Hometek Inc. announced today that "Rebelstar: Tactical Command," a nominee for GameSpot's "Best of E3" on the Game Boy Advance, has gone gold. Developed exclusively for the Game Boy Advance by Codo Technologies, the team behind the legendary "X-Com" and "Laser Squad" series, "Rebelstar: Tactical Command" is a turn based strategy game that puts the player at the epicenter of a human revolt against alien oppressors. "Rebelstar: Tactical Command" will be available at retail chains across North America this September.

"Developed by the team behind 'X-Com' and 'Laser Squad Nemesis,' 'Rebelstar Tactical Command' has an unmatched turn-based strategy pedigree," said Jeff Lujan, business director at Namco Hometek Inc. "The game expands upon traditional strategy gameplay with true character development, fully destructible environments and a compelling science fiction premise, delivering the most full-featured handheld strategy experience for gamers everywhere."

In the year 2117, the Earth has been overrun by a terrible alien scourge known as the Arelian Empire. Controlling mankind through fear and intimidation, the Arelians have brought countless suffering to mankind, abducting all humans once they reach the age of 30. A new recruit named Jorel joins a group of rebels in their struggle to reclaim the world for humans, driving the Arelians back into the deepest, darkest reaches of space.

"Rebelstar: Tactical Command" lets players control their own squad of rebels. Using a turn-based combat system, players will be able to devise unique strategies to achieve victory, such as flanking opponents, utilizing the game's fully destructible environments to destroy cover and using lines of sight to their advantage to perform sneak attacks. As they fight their way to freedom, players will be able to develop their characters, outfitting them with new weapons while cultivating unique skills. Players can also battle head-to-head against their friends with a single cartridge in competitive hot seat multiplayer mode.

"Rebelstar: Tactical Command" is rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) by the ESRB. For more information on "Rebelstar: Tactical Command" visit http://www.namco.com/games/rebelstar/ .

Just looked up this and man does it look cool. I invested at least 50 hours in the original AW(never got the second as it didn't seem like much of an upgrade) So is this really a AW killer? Can it be that good?

AWDS or this? Daddy or chips?

I loved AW, thought AW2 was a bit too similar (and hard). So I could go with Rebelstar for some old skook Gollop action, a change of scenery.

I can't see me being able to play both, they will just take too much investment in time.

Game of the year 2005.

Well probably the only game I'll buy this year. I only bought one last year, so it seems like a safe assumption.

All these comparisons to Advance Wars but Rebelstar seems closer to a Fire Emblem than an Advance Wars. Especially because of character development and the ability to equip various weapons and equipment. Only one more day. Can't freaking wait!

Can't wait to hear of what people have to say about this game. This might have to be purchased with my micro if it pans out to be as good as everyone says. Although I didn't care for FE to much, to much story and not enough game for me, would rather play something like AW minimal story and jump right into the strat!

I love X-com but WTF is up with the cheap-o price. Discount software usually means really short game. I'm hoping it rocks, but $20 with no advertising makes me worry. I'm hoping its a Katamri cheaper sleeper.

It does remind me of X-Com in some ways...which is GOOD. But it does seem to be lacking the base-building aspect, doing alien autopsies, and research about alien artifacts. Those were, along with the battles of course, some of the best parts about X-Com. And I really don't like the kiddified anime-art...but maybe they're aiming for the AW crowd, I dunno? Keep in mind I'm comparing this to X-Com...and with those colors and the art they're using, I can't possibly imagine this game matching the atmosphere of X-Com.

But yeah, I know I shouldn't be picky considering it's a new game from the X-Com creators. I hope they're successful and go on making more strategy games like this and, especially, X-Com. :D

One of the reasons why GBA games in general have such saturated and garish colors is because of visibility issues. It still has to be visible on the old GBA screen. And having muted or dark colors don't help. That said the graphics in Rebelstar isn't exactly good compared to visually more pleasing GBA games. Still, if it plays anything like I think it does then most people should be satisfied.

man, Lazer squad was awesome.
Just the sheer number of ways you could approach each level.

Level 1 - do we assassinate Sterner by looking through the windows, stealthing past his dalek gurads...

do we go in with force, have a close quarters guy with a light saber to take out droids, move in small packs and opp. fire everything out of the place...

or...

do we just boot open the front door, fire several rockets into the building and then waltz in with heavy lazer guys and tear up what ever is left standing?

Amazing game, and i'm hoping this is very much in the same mould.

Wow this came out of nowhere for me. *crosses fingers* Come oooooonnn DS Sequel.

Seriously why do Home Console manufacturers think that mouses are the devil?

Can someone post in the PSP 1.5 thread when laser squad is running good on the amy emulator?

It's my GOTY candidate already. I only knew about this game since E3 ... I can not wait.

I can't remember the last time I bought a GBA game at full price.
