Reccomend me a dial-up access ISP better than AOL

Cable-broadband is available in my area, but at a price I'm not willing to pay. I've been waiting for DSL, but Verizon is dragging it's feet. Until then I'm stuck with dial-up. I've been using AOL since 1995. I don't believe the price tag is justified any more now that there's a ton of other ISPs offering dialup for like $10. The only problem is I don't know how reliable these ISPs are or if they're any better than AOL. Is there a place to find reviews on them?

I've been using netzero for over a year and haven't had any big issues with them. It's $9.95 a month for unlimited access. They have plenty of access numbers and I'm always connected at decent speeds, like 46 and above, generally 50.6 though. The only minor gripe is that it always boots up IE as soon as you connect because they slap some cheesy toolbar on it. But I just close it out and then surf with firefox. Really, for the price, it's pretty good. I ignore all that speed boost crap though. They tack on an extra $5 for that service and I don't see how it can be any faster, it's still all dial up.

I used Earthlink prior to this and hated them. Sometimes it wouldn't connect, and the speeds were sometimes 28.8 or 24.4. It also had tons of random disconnects....all of that for the low, low price of $22.95 a month. I told them off.

I'm not sure about NetZero but PeoplePC uses the same servers as AOL (plus a few extra) so if you're happy with the service and don't mind losing the exclusive content, PPC is a good a choice as any.

What about DSL? Yahoo SBC offers it for $15 a month for the first year.

Whats the speed?? If its that crap 256k DSL that Bellsouth basically decieves customers into believing its in the same leauge as true highpseed connections, he shouldn't even waste his time.

If you live in an apartment get a wifi adapter and see if you can pick up a signal and leech off that.

Aren't all dial-up ISP's better than AOL? I'd recommend Earthlink as well.

Not really no. If you look 'behind the covers' you'll find that AOL has pretty much the same switching room agreements as most of the dial up ISPs. It would be hard to get better "coverage" than AOL and you certainly won't get better "capacity" than AOL. What makes others better than AOL is that they are cheaper.
