Ok. Soooo. I've seen Azumanga Daioh and all episodes were very enjoyable. There were also some scenes where I totally laughed my ass off. Aaaaand I was wondering if there are any other animes like this one because I can't find any.

Excel Saga but don't watch the last episode

I'll join the chorus of approval for Cromartie High School, everyone's favorite absurdist comedy about high school thugs and non-sequiter humor.

Freddy demands you watch it. Next up, go download Yakitate!! Japan:

Totally extreme breadmaking! No, really. It's freakin' hysterical, loaded with bizzare humor, wildly over the top baking competitions, and god-awful puns. And, of course, delicious bread.

Meanwhile, available on DVD, is the classic Here Is Greenwood:

Our hero Kazuya is an incoming freshman at a prestigous high school - and promptly gets put in the dorm with all the freaks. Cue wacky boarding school hijinx. Gangsters! Ghosts! Extended fantasy parodies! Romance! And, best of all, wonderful characters. Greenwood completely fucking rules.

And, while I'm pimping early 90s OVA series, check out Assemble Insert:

The cover blurb is pretty accurate, actually - when a bunch of hapless cops hold auditions to find a hero to fight Demon Seed's crime rampage they wind up with Maron-chan, who they promptly turn into an idol singer. It's sweet and goofy and tremendous fun; fifteen bucks gets you two episodes.

Assemble Insert is one-third of the Holy OVA Trinity, the other two being Prefectural Earth Defense Force and Blazing Transfer Student. All three are a hoot and a half, but the other two (long out of print in Japan, let alone the US) might prove tricky to track down.

GoldenBoy.jpg

"Kintaro Oe is the ultimate daydreamer," (ADV) current age twenty-five... male. He studied law at Tokyo University, but left the school before graduating although he had completed all of the required courses. Now he considers himself a freer, a person who specializes in part-time jobs. Kintaro lives his life going from job to job learning new things all while studing life.

as far as the funny goes:

1- School Rumble
2- Azumanga Daioh!
3- Fruits Basket
4- Jungle wa Itsumo nochi Guu
5- FMP! Fumoffu
6- Genshiken
7- Honey&Clover
8- One Piece
9- GTO
10- Nadesico

School Rumble and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu!!!

With the latter one I never even watched the first series, but hearing that it's wasn't straight up school comedy like Fumoffu I didn't bother, not that big on dramatic big robots, so the new series of FMP that came out this year I not going to bother again.

FMP to me, will always be about the crazy hilarious insanity of a military delinqent trying to fit in normal school society.

Golden Boy - an oldie but goodie. Try to see it dubbed, the jokes come off better that way.
Yakitate Japan - making bread is damn funny!

This one was fucking hilarious. Really took me by surprise.

Cromartie is pretty funny, but Keroro Gunsou is definitely the king of anime comedy in my book, with Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu in a firm second place.

I second Goldenboy. This is the funniest anime, period.

There is also an amazingly funny sub-anime in Memories called STINK BOMB. You must see this as well.

I think Ranma 1/2 is a classic anime and very funny. That was probably one of the first comedy anime series I've watched, so the jokes weren't stale to me. Nowadays a lot of comedy anime just seems to be insanity, slapstick, and overreactiveness for insanity's sake - Excel Saga being a good example. Saber Marionette J starts off pretty funny and ridiculous but gets series soon afterwards... I've always liked that series.

Quack Experimental Anime: Excel Saga

Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu

Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu DELUXE

Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu FINAL

The above are all comedies of the random / looney type.

The below are romantic comedies

Midori no Hibi

Chobits

And then you have FLCL aka Fuli Kuli aka Furi Kuri, which is a little bit of both.

Lindz reccomends~~

Di Gi Charat the first tv series. All 16 eppies on one disc. Easy to watch since the eps are only a few minutes each adding up to an hour of goodness. Great extras with the LE version to.

Nurse Witch Komugi. More then just a magical girl parody it snipes at jp idol culture in general and it's only 6 episodes so the goodness is jampacked.

Steel Angel Kurumi the complete collection! Episodes are around 11 minutes each but there's a total of 40 spanning the first and second series. Even when things tend to get dark there's still humor ta be had.

You guys are really helping out. :D Thanks a bunch. Also, this thread is making me feel so terribly ashamed that I've downloaded anime and never purchased. :( But it's hard since I dunno where to find some good stores (The Netherlands) and I don't want to friggin' import stuff. School Rumble looks real nice! I'll do some researching on all those other animes, too.

School Rumble is a great anime but not htat funny IMO.

If you like those crappy harem/romantic/comedy animes then I guess check that out also.

FLCL
Honey & Clover
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo

I always thought Bebop and Champloo had great humor outside of amazing drama and action.

Well, right now, I prefer pure humor without a big story and stuff. I don't feel like getting to know another story and stuff. Rurouni Kenshin was awesome and occasionally it had great humor, but the entire story is not funny at all. But very awesome (my favorite story ever).

If you want good humor without a story, then disregard FLCL. But all the series I listed aside from FLCL are good, pure humor, although the romantic comedies I listed might have a LITTLE too much story for what you're looking for.

In that case, I recommend Excel Saga. It's random. It's funny. It's awesome.

Jungle ha Itsumo Hare nochi Guu!! Its bizarre but great.
And if you can stand to watch drama (omg, teh people), Stand Up is fucking awesome. Four guys realize/think they're the last virgins at their high-school. Hilarity is guaranteed.

I'll let the Hare go, as it can be romajinized as "Hale" or "Hare," but it's WA, not HA
