Recommend me some games for my new Game Boy Player

I'm not much of a handheld gamer, so I've never owned a GB of any sort. I got a GB Player for xmas though and would love to hear some recommendations. I tend to like shmups, old school stuff and pretty much anything bizarre or unique.

So far, I've picked up and am digging Astro Boy. Should I get Advance Wars 1 or 2 or not at all?

Advance Wars 2 - great strategy game, very addicting
Mario & Luigi - awesome RPG, if you like Mario RPG or Paper Mario you'll like this
Wario Ware - only if you don't have the GC version though
Astroboy:Omega Factor - fun sidescroller beat em up game (oops, you already have this haha)

Astro Boy:Omega Factor by treasure. Old-school side-scroller in the vein of Gunstar Heroes with a few side-scrolling shmup levels thrown in for good measure.

Highest Possible Recommendation

also, Wario Ware.

Yeah Metal Slug Advance is pretty good. And it's $17 at Best Buy if you can find yourself a gamer's gift card with $5 off coupon

Super Mario Land 2

I know it's old but it's my favorite handheld Mario of all-time.

Metroid Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
Advance Wars 2 (you can skip the first one, this one makes it obselete)
Fire Emblem
Mario and Luigi
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis (very good SRPG, but also very rare now)
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Final Fantasy I and II: Dawn of Souls (much better than FF Origins on PSX)
Wario Ware
Chu Chu Rocket
And Sonic Advance game
Astroboy
Metal Slug Advance
The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (ships Jan. 10th, 2005)
Either Kirby game is pretty good, too.

Metroid Fusion > Metroid: Zero Mission

Nah, but it is still a great game. I'd also recommend any of the Castlevanias, except for whichever one it is that sucks (I only have Aria).

Zero Mission is way,
way too short and easy.

As much as the linearity of Fusion felt un-Metroid, it was still an excellent game.

POKéMON Pinball R/S! Aside from it being a good game of pinball it actually makes use of the GBPlayer by enabling rumble! ^_^

This should be your first purchase. Best GBA game by far. :D

I'd also recommend Zelda: A Link The Past, Astro Boy, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission, and all the Super Mario Advance games.

I just realized I never even tried Advance Guardian Heroes on my GB Player!

So far Ive picked up Advance Wars 2, Castlevania: Circle of the moon, Golden Sun and Phantasy Star Collection... all have been excellent purchases, but unless you allready like the old PS games I wouldnt get it. Plus it was less than 50 bucks for all of them.

The DS has turned into a really awesome system.. Im just not buying DS games for it. :lol

im not much of a portable gamer but Wario Ware is great fun, you should definately pick it up if you can find it cheap. kingdom hearts is good too if you like the series.

I'd say Mario and Luigi. The wit and script is some of the best I've seen. Full of Nintendo humor.

And of course, Fire Emblem and Zelda: A Link to the Past.

you need advance guardian heroes and, if you can find it, ninja five-o. the gba is depressingly light on the sorts of action games you seem to want, but those two are fantastic. astro boy too.

I'm another gamer here who has a GB Player, but not a GBA.

Unlike the others here, I definitely do NOT recommend Advance Guardian Heroes. Seriously, it's got such a horrible translation you'd soon rather forget the game altogether (and there are a lot of dialogue sequences).

My favorite picks: Advance Wars 1 & 2. If you can't spare the time for many games these days, then just get 2 (it's WAY more balanced).

If you want to get a Castlevania, then just get Aria of Sorrow. The other two don't quite live up to SotN nearly enough.

This Man knows what he's talking about, except for recommending Dr. Mario and Metroid. You can get Dr. Wario in Wario Ware, and Metroid in Metroid: Zero Mission. (Both as a remake and the original, being unlockable)

Hah! Except in the case of AGH, the entire game is so goofy storywise and the gameplay so great that the story is best ignored or taken very lightly - just like in the 16-bit days.

Gameboy Player only gamer here as well. Just as long as you keep expectations low when these games get blown up on big screen(snes quality as many claimed on GBA they are not ) there alot fun stuff out there. Simplistic but fun.

These ain't the simple 16-bit days. Developers are intent these days in putting in a story... even if some are atrocious (Neo Contra).

Actually, they are just abuot SNES quality, for the most part; when you blow the games up on TV, the graphics get stretched out, so of course they don't look as clean as SNES graphics.

I'll tell you one thing, though; A Link to the Past on my DS looks just as vivid and colorful as the SNES version, thanks to the backlit screen.
