Recommend me some good PC games

I am getting the itch for some PC gaming again, if you guys could recommend some (relatively) low spec PC games with good (addicting) game mechanics (no FPSs) I would appreciate it.

BTW, I've played all Blizzard games to death, but feel free to suggest good RTSs.

Thx.

PS: I am considering Kohan, and Dungeon Siege at the moment.

Myth: The Fallen Lords (if you have an old Voodoo card laying around especially; otherwise it runs in software mode -- still though, the game is my favorite game of alltime).

Myth II: Soulblighter (don't need a Voodoo card, it will use D3D). Single player is better than part one, but multiplayer isn't as good (though still dandy and unlike part one, can actually still be played online through a 3rd party).

Both games will run easily on just about any system nowadays and both games are extremely cheap!

What the hell, I'll go ahead and reccomend Anachronox. It's a quirky console-esque RPG for the PC with some great writing.

Darwinia is an inide RTS fav but I don't know how low your specs are.

Could you be a bit more specific on your computer specs? It would help with the suggestions.

-Baldur's Gate II
-Icewind Dale II
-Medieval: Total War

These collections including expansions are easy to find for $20 or less. Should run on a lower spec PC, assuming it isn't ancient.

Seven Kingdoms
The Ur-Quan Masters (free downloadable open source port of Star Control 2 for 3DO)
Nethack / ADOM
Total Annihilation
Deus Ex (oops, FPS)

If you haven't played through the Max Payne series, I highly recommend it. It was easily my favorite series of this past generation.

If you do, make sure you play the original first and then the sequel. Not only because the story is important, but because the controls in MP2 are so much more fluid than the original you won't be able to go back without a bit of pain.

I was going to say this. Max Payne is one of the few games that, to me, has an outstanding story, great voice acting, and excellent gameplay.

Cave Story. Can't get any better than a free, small, but excellent platformer that IMO is better than 80% of the games I've played this gen.

Yeah, there are a ton of good freeware games, yeah. Cave Story is awesome.

And I agree with what Sl1p said. Seriously, break the no FPS rule for Max Payne.

(but tain max payne is third person)

+1

I love that there are so many doujin games that are arguably superior to what we buy in stores.

As for the store-bought kind, I loved the first Call of Duty, and I'm not even an FPS fan. It was one of the most immersive single-player experiences I've ever had on the PC, and the sound design is incredible. Turn it up and get ready to upset your family/neighbors. :)

a second for Ur Quan Masters-- Star Control II is easily one of the greatest games of all time.

also, Civ 4. it's stupid fun, even with the problems folks say they have.

the current games I'm playing on PC are:

-Warcraft III (for the story)
-AoE III
-Civ IV
-WoW

I'd also recommend Tropico, its really old, but fun :D .. Tropico 1 not 2

Giants: Citizen Kabuto was a very cool and very original game with some great characters.

Total Annihilation is my Holy Grail of RTS.

Did i mention freespace 2 aka the best game ever? Did i mention the game has constantly been improved by it's fans? Did i mention it's free?

From the free lineup, I'd like to give a recommendation to Tumiki Fighters. Nothing like an old school shooter (no, not a fps) - link

If you get warcraft III, get it for the online play, because its awesome and free.

The story is a decent few hours of gameplay.

Bioware's stuff and Planescape + Fallout

Its a shame you want no FPS, cause I'd highly recommend System Shock 2, even though its an FPS it has some very deep gameplay. And it'll scare the heck out of you. :D

I worked on this game, and am still very proud of it. Same with Planescape: Torment. Both are great PC games that help keep the core spirit of Interplay alive, despite their demise.

It's decent, Pentium 2.6 gig, 512 MB RAM and Geforce 4 128 MB card. I just don't want to tweaking all the time just to play the latest ZOMG fps at 18 frames per sec.

The games you mentioned I really wanna play, it's just tough hunting down older games where I live (Bangladesh), we get all the latest games though (but they're ahem, 'special')

As for the guys who recommended WoW, the two reasons I don't want to play it is 1, I have a slow net connection, 2, I don't want it to take over my life like I've heard happen to a lot of people.
