What are some good fishing games?

I only caught the legendary fish for the Stranger Mission and someone needs to explain how the fishing works because I had to cheat to reel him in.
Slowly rotate R3 until a fish bites, then quickly press R2. As long as the fish moves in the water, pull L3 down, once it stopped moving quickly rotate R3 clockwise (best with your palm) while also rocking L3 back and forth for getting the fish faster out of the water. Repeat until you have it. If it's a legendary it'll take some time so be patient.

There are none, all the major fishing games got fishing that is too easy and broken. I tried the big ones. It's the same with hunting games, the AI and loopholes ruin these games.

Call of the Wild The Angler is worth a look. The devs recently wrapped things up due to low sales but there's plenty of content.

The last truly great fishing game was Fishing Resort on the Wii. You'd go from catching Clown Fish to Great White Sharks.

I was looking for a casual fishing game recently and settled on a "game" called Cast n Chill. While you can actively fish, it will also play in idle mode. I sometimes let it sit in idle mode as a screen saver (unfortunately you have to launch it, it is not a screen saver). Or, I will have it running in a window on a second monitor. I will actively fish at times when I am looking for a trophy fish or just want to chill.

I still break this combo out every now and again.

They don't really exist because irl, not catching anything is just as fun as catching something, but a game where you just sit around waiting for nothing to happen would be boring as shit, so everything is geared towards you catching something on almost every cast.

There was an arcade game I played 20 years ago that simulated reeling in massive game fish by you actually using a physical rod and reel attached to a super tight rope/wire. It was a lot of fun and also a test of strength as the fish got bigger.

Forget the simulators, they are all janky and don't even get close to simulating fishing. Maybe Sega Bass Fishing as others have mentioned but it gets boring quickly.

Sega Bass Fishing, Animal Crossing and Dredge. I think Yakuza 3 and Final Fantasy XV have a good Sega Bass Fishing inspired mini game.

Ice Lakes has great reviews on Steam and Pro Pilkki is a Finnish treasure in the form of a videogame.

I've been playing Fishing Planet on and off on my phone for a while, but it really sucks that progress isn't shared with PC. Sometimes I'd like to swap and play on a bigger screen while chillin.

Maybe I'll try UFS, but I'd like something slightly less sim and not too arcadey. Like something decent in-between.

My Dad's a long-time fisher man in real life but can't really do much of it well since his stroke, but he loves Russian Fishing 4. Might be worth takin' a look at it.

Built him a real nice £1800 PC with the full works, got him loads of new games to take advantage of it and he spends 90% of his time on Russian Fishing 4. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

His 4070 Super is probs sat twiddling its thumbs.

Russian Fishing 4 can max out pretty powerful GPUs with everything on. It's not a bad looking game by fishing standards. It's also the one I play the most.

I remember the Sega fishing games having bespoke controllers for them. And they seemed to be fun, if you're into fishing. So probably those.

Excellent game. But I wouldn't really recommend it to someone who wants to play a "zen-mode-fishing-game".

Dredge can get quite stressful for a "fishing" game, relatively speaking.

Zen mode? Definitely not. But yeah, it is a great game with fishing and a Lovecraftian mystery going on.

Honestly though, fishing is about the boring activity in the world for me, whether in a game or real life. Dredge is one of the few games that makes fishing actually fun.
