No one piece, no dbz, no slayers type shit (i realize that not all of those are manga's, don't want stuff that could be comparable to them).

Only manga I've every read was Berserk, looking forward to Vagabond and I'm checking out Lone Wolf and Cub as we speak. Something along those lines, more muture fare.

Any help would be appreciated to a manga n00b such as I.

Worst, from Digital Manga Publishing.

It's about delinquent highschools, and gang cliques grappling for superiority. Really cool art too.

GTO too.

If you grab GTO, make sure you grab Bad Company after you get all of GTO. It sets up the story of who exactly Onizuka was before he became what he was in GTO.

Volumes 1-7

I second GTO too. Great dramady. 25 volumes here.

I second Blade of the Immortal.

If you're into something a little more cyberpunkish but still dark, check out Battle Angel Alita from Viz.

It's hard to recommend manga if we don't know what kind of stuff you like. Judging by a love for Berserk, you could be into anything heavy fantasy, action, drama, etc.

So here's some (mature) manga that I think just about anybody would love:

-Monster, by Naoki Urasawa (might be hard to find scanslated since it's been licensed)
-20th Century Boys, by Naoki Urasawa
-Beck, by Harold Sakuishi (licensed, coming out later this year)
-Maison Ikkoku, by Rumiko Takahashi
-Gantz, by Hiroya Oku (not really "mature" per se, but probably the best Battle Royale-like action manga)
-Ghost in the Shell, by Masamune Shirow

I'd list more but then i'd be dredging into "stuff only Pellham likes" territory.

Oh and the stuff everyone else has already recommended is great too.
