Recently, I've been into the whole vintage rock scene and I have an overwhelming urge to check out some rock tunes from that late 80s or early 90s era. I'm talking about bands like Guns N' Roses, Mr Big, Stone Temple Pilots, REM, U2, etc.....

Anyone help me out here?

The Scream - Extremely cool blues rock, imagine Van Halen + GnR + a bit of neo funk. You can download their albums (legally) from http://www.racerxband.com/scream.htm. Check out "Tell me why" from their first album!
Bad English - Keyboardy rock, featuring ex journey members
Hardline - great hard rock

Well I only know the big hits...

Thanks! Actually, I only want the big hits. Those are the only ones I remember and those are probably the ones that will elicit the nostalgic reaction from me......

Oh, well did you get my list then, or do you want me to retype it?

Do you want "big hits" or also "great songs that should've been big hits"? I'm a huge 80s lover so I can give both but it's easier if I know what you're looking for.

Here's something to get you started:

TNT - 10,000 lovers, Intuition, many others...
Europe - Ready or not, Rock the night (ok, ok, The final countdown)
Fair Warning - Save me, Angel of heaven
Vixen - Cryin', Edge of a broken heart

Days Of The New- Shelf In The Room, Down

Soundgarden- Outshined, Jesus Christ Pose

Tool- Sober

Pearl Jam- Alive, Evenflow, Jeremy, Black

Radiohead- Creep, Just, High And Dry

ElyrionX: Did you get anything from Sonic Youth's Dirty yet?
If not... get Swimsuit Issue, Theresa's Soundworld and Youth Against Fascism. Then try to tell me it isn't early 90's vintage rock. Quite simply, these songs are teh pwn.

Geez I'm only 18, and I don't think early 90s as vintage. It's what I listened to growing up. My dad was awesome and bought STP - Purple, Bush - Sixteen Stone, Pearl Jam - Vs., Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Suger Sex Magik, and U2 - The Joshua Tree. I love him for that.

Alice In Chains - Man In The Box, Down In A Hole, Rooster, I Stay Away, Again, Grind, Would?, Heaven Beside You
Bush - Everything Zen, Machinehead, Comedown, Glycerine, Swallowed
Collective Soul - Shine
Dream Theater - Pull Me Under
Faith No More - Epic
Foo Fighters - My Hero, Monkey Wrench
Green Day - Longview, Basket Case, When I Come Around
Guns N' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O'Mine, Live and Let Die
Live - I Alone, Lightning Crashes
Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy
Metallica - The Unforgiven, Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit, All Apologies, Lake of Fire and The Man WHo Sold The World (Unplugged), Come As You Are, Heart-Shaped Box
Oasis - Wonderwall, Champange Supernova
The Offspring - Come Out and Play, Self-Esteem
Pearl Jam - Evenflow, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Go, Animal, Daughter, Rearviewmirror
R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts, Losing My Religion, Man Oo The Moon
Radiohead - Creep
Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Power of Equality, Breaking The Girl, Give It Away, Under The Bridge
Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock, Disarm, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, 1979, Tonight, Tonight, Zero
Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun, Jesus Christ Pose, Outshined, The Day I Tried to Live, Superunknown, Rusty Cage, Burden In My Hand, 4th of July, Fresh Tendrils
Stone Temple Pilots - Dead And Bloated, Sex Type Thing, Wicked Garden, Creep, Plush, Meatplow, Vasoline, Loungefly, Interstate Love Song, Big Empty
Temple of the Dog - Say Hello to Heaven, Hunger Strike, Pushin Forward Back
Tool - Sober
U2 - One, Mysterious Ways, Where the Streets Have No Name, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, With or Without You, Bullet the Blue Sky
Van Halen - Right Now
The Verve Pipe - The Freshmen
Weezer - Buddy Holly

And its Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart

If you're goiung to listen to Butthole Surfers, something older than this is going to be way better. Get "Who Was In My Room Last Night?" That's a fuckin' song. All their 80s output is pretty much gold, too.

Apparently you don't know much about rock music in the early 90s.

lesee most people recommending: alice in chains, soundgarden, nirvana, stone temple pilots, pearl jam etc... is that not grunge? what exactly dont i know? I'm not knocking early 90s music because that's what i grew up on, i just wouldnt call it "vintage rock."
