I honestly thought they'd eventually remaster 1 so that it could take place in the world/engine of 2. Then you would seamlessly transition from RDR2 to 1, with the same awesome graphics.

It has nothing to do with the consoles being able to do it or not. It's about them wanting to release a remaster later and ask money for it, insteaf of giving us a free current-gen upgrade.

Exacly, look at the quality of the remastered games of their previous releases. Its pretty terrible, all they added really was raytracing. Rockstar has turned into the new EA. Just greedy and dont care about their public perception because they're too big for that to matter.

I don't say this often, because typically I have no qualms going back to old games, but... This is genuinely a case where I feel it's too late for me to care even a single bit.

Someone could even gift me a copy of this one and still I'm not sure I'd find the will to spend time on it.

It's one of the best games of all time, better than RDR2.

RDR2 has insane production values but RDR1 is just a much more fun game to play.

I agree with this. Although I haven't played RDR1 in over 10 years. Plus Undead Nightmare was a great DLC/expansion.

Insane that I can run RDR2 at 90+ FPS, 1440p and they can't get it 720/60FPS on consoles. Y'all deserve more!

The PS5 can run it at 1600p upscale (or whatever the PS4 Pro res is) at a solid 60.
