[RUMOR] Sony to acquire Bluepoint Games very soon Rumor

I talked/teased on the forum about something I've heard from someone I know personally a few days ago. I also talked with Transistor about it. I'll be very upfront and say I wasn't able to verify both of my "sources" to the team over at ERA. The reason I couldn't verify my second source is that...

Probably the moment DeS reviews and sells incredibly well. Same with Housemarque and Returnal, though I don't expect huge sales on that.

They redid and created updated designs for the enemies in Demons souls created brand new assets, and reimagined a lot of the levels art wise. They were/are working on some things that I've heard a while back for their own project and I believe they have early concepts done for said new IP. Which gives a little more credit to this rumor.

I've heard similar things.

Would not be surprised though if Sony asks them to re-imagine some of their older titles. Think LEGEND of dragoon and the likes.

It's pretty normal. Ambitious people want new challenges to develop themselves further and not be stuct endlessly doing same thing. If they weren't like this their remakes wouldn't be so great.
 
got to have someone to make bloodborne 2

I guess if they use sony talent to think up the games abd bluepoint to make them there shouldnt be any issues.

I've heard rumors for years of them remaking Metal Gear, either Solid or the Older MSX games, assumming that Sony bought the IP (and Silent Hill, we can dream)

There's no way Konami would not want billions for the Metal gear IP. If anything it would be like the Silent hill deal.
 
Cool, you look at their work, they're a remastering company, not a company that makes the games themselves. Just because you can remaster something, doesn't mean you can make a competent original product. There are fans that don't enjoy their remaster of the Demon's Souls game.

If they buy it, I guess PS5 will be the REMAKE console.

I respect Bluepoint but there's a difference between redoing assets than creating an entire game from the ground up. On the other hand they've probably earned the risk I guess from Sony. They might even be kept on to remaster a lot of old games in the same way as SoTC and DeS which would be cool in itself.

Sorry I meant to also say "Borrow" the IP if not alright buy it, and is MGS really worth billions? If MS bought Bethedsa for 7.1 Billion and that includes more noteable IP's imo, then I can see MGS being a lot cheaper

It's now time for Legend of Dragoon Remake/Reboot.
If they want to tackle other Japanese IPs (Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud), I'm fine with that too. :messenger_grinning:

Bethesda wasn't what MS bought they bought Zenimax and their holdings which includes Bethesda and all studios under them. If anything they underpaid, but I believe zeni was desperate. They had been bleeding money from their stock for a lot of this gen.

MGS has had multiple releases and re-releases that have sold millions upon millions. So if anything it would be a billion dollar deal. Like Minecraft.

According to online sources your looking at 56 mIlion copies sold for the franchise. Thats nothing to scoff at.

Bluepoint is obviously a talented studio with both excellent art team and good tech. A wise though expected move by Sony if this happens.
Now if Sony could buy From Software.... sweet Bloodborne 2
 
Sony would've been better off acquiring From Software. That company is very well suited to be a Sony exclusive studio and they CLEARLY make some of the best video games.
 
It's not an exciting acquisition and doesn't net any big IP's but from a content production standpoint it is the smart move.

I do hope they will get a bit more aggressive with acquisitions in the future. They are really not rocking the boat at all when it comes to this aspect.
 
Would be interested to see what ideas they have for a new IP.

They do great work but the real test will come when they have to build something from scratch.

Agree its a matter.of time be4 Microsoft acquires fromsoft. Possible sega ubisoft capcom u name it and sony / Nintendo aint gonna have sod all

Well it also means they can start building their own IP.
 
I love their quality as a port house and would love for them to stay that way. But I wouldn't fault anyone in that deal. Makes sense for both parties tbh.

Would be an incredible pickup. The Bluepoint Engine is easily an Industry Top 10.

And, since they helped develop the first game, might increase chances of a PlayStation All-Stars 2! :messenger_beaming:
 
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised by this at all considering the work they've done with them. I'm actually really surprised that hasn't happened yet....
 
This shouldn't be a surprise Blue Point and House Marque will probably be bought by Sony. Honestly Sony should have purchased them along time ago.
Now Sony be ambitious, buy From Software, if I remember correctly they regret not purchasing From Software back in the PS3 days seeing how successful the souls series are now.
 
I mean, Sony has lots of classic IPs and Bluepoint are masters at remaking or remastering things. Would definitely help Sony's output by getting classic titles an update.
 
After seeing the quality of Demon's Souls it'd be a no brainer imo. If Sony doesn't offer them a deal then there's about 3 publishers that will.
