Build a Rocket Boy (Mindseye) Working On "Very Powerful" T.V IP w/ 'Very Big Company'

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The Boys, maybe?

Baitybait: [...] They also have another secret project in development, with a very powerful license to a very big company and hasn't been announced yet. I can't say which one because they asked explicitely not to, but I can say it is a tv series you all know."

How about fixing the broken pos that they released before working on a new game? And this new game by them is going to suck ass just as much as mindseye.

Where's the very public commitment to turning MindsEye around?

CDPR & the No Man's Sky devs have demonstrated that you can come back from a turkey if you stay committed to it and work hard to try to right the ship.

They have an opportunity here to do the same, but it will cost them in terms of humility and investment to fix their broken work culture and fix their awful game.

If investors were smart, they shouldn't trust BORB with anything else until they can demonstrate pedigree here in delivering top tier game quality for their fans.

Hello Games got a TON of shit from all around for a few years, before they really updated the game (and arguably today it's much, much more than what was initially promised). And some people still hate on NMS for overselling the launch product. Don't expect the public opinion to be so lenient/change very quickly.

So did CDPR.

That was my point.

Not sure if you're agreeing or disagreeing here?

Fixing Cyberpunk or No Man's Sky was hard, but those games had a solid design core buried under bugs and poor optimization.

MindsEye, on the other hand:

1. No core gameplay loop
2. Lifeless AI
3. Empty open world
4. Shallow combat
5. Overreliance on cutscenes
6. Lack of meaningful progression
7. Disjointed structure
8. No standout mechanic
9. No clear direction
10. Inconsistent pacing
11. Surface-level systems
12. No sense of discovery
13. Little replay value
14. Misallocated budget

You can patch performance. You can't patch soul

They'd need money, talent, time, transparency, and humility to fix this, and there's no sign they have any of those things. The comparison to CDPR and Hello Games is flattering… but not realistic

It was intended as less of a comparison and more of an archetype for a plausible redemption arc, given the right conditions and commitment.

Granted I agree BARB has none of those starting conditions and is already failing to really signal any commitment either. But if they wanted to they could find a way to get there and rebuild the credibility they've destroyed through hubris and mismanagement.

It'd honestly be great if they pulled off a proper redemption arc

I think most people want to see passion projects succeed, especially when there's been a rough start

If they ever decide to double down and rebuild from the ground up, I'd be the first to root for them. But they've got a long road ahead

My bet is they will close down in the next few weeks. No way are they going to survive through this and have investors give them even more money on a promise of doing a better job. It's not even like with Immortals of Aveum - that game sold like shit as well (for a big budget project), but at least it was getting decent reviews.

Game of Thrones.

Why?

Because WB is desperate to revive the I.P. and they have been trying with two games announcements (so far) and HoTD TV show. So, why not a third game? They would be ready and willing to throw money at a former GTA team for their own take on it.

Also, everyone knows this show, whether they like it or not.

Without the PS4 release and its refund (I think it was first ever for Sony and only Concord and now Mindseye are the other two) the problems of Cyberpunk would not have been nearly as much discussed as they were. That was a major catalyst to mock/rereview the initially quite well reviewed release. Especially PC guys rated it very high and it was at first the typical RPGs are hard to get right bending over.
With NMS on the other hand, people expected things that never were actually promised and the what do you do question was imho never answered. Before release fans laughed at the sceptics for even asking, but all new trailers look like the very same trash to me as what was initially shown. It still looks like you travel around in a vast universe doing nothing of actual importance on mostly empty looking planets. It is still "filler content - the game" in my perception. But I would guess the disappointed people never went back, should never have never bought it in the first place, while those that praise it today had more realistic expectations and actually just enjoy exploring crap for hours and probably were already fine with it in its original state.
I am not sure if you can fix Mindseye the same. The very core of the story seems all over the place and a bad joke. As long as you laugh at that, even bugfree it hardly can be recommended to anyone. They almost need to start from scratch again to inject a story that makes sense.

Hopefully they'll fare a whole lot better with the new project. I know that doesn't say all that much considering.
