Regarding music and memory

When I was going through iTunes and listening to the "Top 100 Billboard Songs" from various years in the 90's, I was rather torn whether to buy some of the music from my past. I have some very strong memories associated with certain songs or pieces of music, but it seems like the more and more you play it (and in all of the different circumstances you play it) dampens the memory.

For example, I had some great memories attached to "Ghetto Superstar", yet they are very muddy right now as a result of the amount of overplaying that song got.

I almost want to never hear some songs again until I'm 40 or so, letting the song and memory hit me full force when I do hear it. But then again, some of this music is quite good.

A condundrum for the ages, I suppose.

Interestingly, it's not sound (i.e., music), but scent that we have the strongest memory for. Sound was next in line, iirc.
