Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

I mean doesn't everybody when mourning someone wallpaper their name all throughout their house? Sounds about right.

These comments are so odd considering ribbons have been made and some awesome art drawn to reflect back on how awesome Ryan was.

You gotta admit wallpapering RIP Ryan Davis all over a wall is weirdly unnerving. And hilariously awkward. Which I assume was the goal.

No shit. Why the fuck was she even on there?

For the 10th time (at least)... Listen to the actual video... Geoff explains that they were in studio to film the next Bonus Round episode when they learned about Ryan and decided to do a special video... The three guests are not there becuase of Ryan, they are there for the Bonus Round.

Have you seen the other pages :/
But even just the last one on the first page, how is this not bannable?!

Probably the comments section messing up for me. Although some parts of GT are great now, the player and their respective sections play up a lot. Ah it doesn't matter anyways.

The gt community is a literal cesspool.
Yeah Jesus Christ, sometimes I think it is pretty bad here but that forum is unbelievable.

Well I couldn't resist and wound up listening to the podcast twice today. It was a great tribute to a wonderful person. I know it's going to be hard for those guys to keep going without him, but I hope they can find a way to still be excited about Giant Bomb.

Hey Pachter, I seriously rate you.

The only actual heartfelt reaction in that panel.

No idea who the guy at the end was, but there seems to be a pretty vicious cut at the end of his speech.

Have to agree. Pach is a classy classy guy. You could tell it was heartfelt in what he said. Much love, much respect.

The gt community is a literal cesspool.

Any time I'm on a forum that isn't GAF I'm just stunned at just how shitty some of the internet community is. I know moderation is a part of it,
Love you bishoptl
but I honestly do think that there is just a higher class of people here that really care and have a lot more respect. I love you guys x x x

When my grandfather died not too long ago I quickly went into a stage of acceptance, knowing he had a great life and that at that point in his life he was in too much pain to go on, even though It still hurt a lot to have lost him.
None of this applies to Ryan, and thus I am having a hard time coping with his loss. He was probably never happier than at that point. He was just 34,with over half his life left to go.
It's cliche as fuck, but with the whole "flame that burns twice as bright..." saying I think applies somewhat to a bloke like Ryan. Not because how he lived contributed to his passing, but because by him burning twice as bright he's been able to shine his ethos onto hundreds of people in the industry (some of whom started because of people like him) and will continue to do their work at least partially owing to his influence.

Basically, that's a long-winded (and devoid of any kind of eloquence) way of saying that I think we see a lot of his influence in the industry now (at least, the good parts of it), and will for a LONG time to come. Stay strong, tiger.

His father suggested that in Ryan's memory, donate to any charity in his name. As crude as it might seem, I think I'm going to be signing up for a GB membership as such. It's not a charity, but it's a more direct way of ensuring that the legacy of his work continues on.

Brad just posted this on Twitter

That... looks extremely creepy! It's like one of those movie shrine serial killers have. And just look at Serious Ryan there in the corner.
That's... a little creepy. I think it's apt.
For Giant Bomb GAF

Edit: lol ^

That is bizarre.
My feels guys. :( It was suppose to be a nice thought...
I can just see Jeff looking at this, shaking his head going "What. The. Fuck.", then laughing his ass off.
Well I tweeted it to him, so it probably did happen.
Awwww... This is soooo cool!
At least someone liked it.

I was kind of smiling while I wrote that, it wasn't meant in a mean-spirited way. It's creepy in an adorable and funny way, as in "disembodied head of Serious Ryan Davis in front of endlessly repeating RIP RYAN DAVIS white-on-black wallpaper".

*nervous laugh* YEAH WHAT A WEIRDO WHO'D DO THAT

gotta go

Bloody hell at that GT thread. At least a moderator with some humanity shut the damn thing down. I know it could be construed as self congratulating, but I'm genuinely glad there're places like Neogaf. If every board were like GT, I wouldn't even bother.

Good on that mod to lock the thread. I had to close that tab out of disgust just from reading the first page of posts.

I like how when provided with a picture of an overweight guy, the internet is suddenly full of fitness experts and athletes.

This is exactly why I've stopped visiting any forum besides gaf...for videogames, anyways.

I think what really keeps this place in check is that it does a good job of policing itself. Everyone, for the most part, treats it like more than "just another forum." If they try to ruin it, frontier justice to the rescue. I love posting here because I know it's not going to be a mess, I'm not going to get into a pointless argument about anything, and there's a lot of substance.

Just realized for the past few days since the news broke i went from gaming a LOT to not gaming at all. Realized this just now. Fuck :(

Yeh same. I mentioned earlier the lack of enthusiasm I would have normally had for the release of the GTA5 trailer yesterday but all I could think of is how Ryan would have reacted to it (Because I think he was a big GTA fan ?)

If we are feeling this, im sure the rest of the GB crew couldnt give 2 fucks about games at the moment either.

Man, this is still really bothering me.

I didn't think it would, but when you see/hear someone every week like clockwork for 5 years, you feel like you know that person.

Damn.

That work-email requirement must mean something as well I think.

R.I.P. Ryan. I never watched much Giant Bomb, but the post-E3 roundtable made me think that I might start doing so. I guess part of the fun will be gone now if I do.

Guess you haven't ventured into the thread about Nintendo not allowing SSBM to be streamed at Evo.

I like GAF, but it isn't a forum utopia.

My god, what a shit show the GT forum is. Absolutely hate people like that and it's a great reason why kids shouldnt be allowed online. I hate when obviously highschool students discuss health... Enjoy your 30's.

Ok, but still. Why is chobot there?

He literally just explained why.

God damn. What the fuck is wrong with people? That makes my blood boil. Troll or not that is fucking disgusting behavior. I'm so glad I'm on GAF so I don't have to deal with shit like that.

Also the thread may have been shut down but the fact that none of them were banned for that is really shitty in my opinion.

It's just crazy that, to my knowledge, the first major game journalist death was somebody who was so prominent. Was somebody from a site that was all about getting to know them.

It would really help me move on, knowing what happened...

No offense, but this isn't about you or about the GB community. First and foremost it's about his family, if they don't want to release the cause of his death other than "natural causes", you have to respect it.

You don't have to like it, but you have to respect it. Honestly, people like you or me are nothing compared to those who are his friends and family. The most honorable thing we could do as a community is to follow their wishes and not to pry.

Well you probably won't find out. It is very typical for causes of death to remain private, as they should be, if you aren't friends/family. If it were something more serious you would know by now.

I don't see why it should remain private if it's nothing embarrassing. They know we all care about Ryan; it would be nice if they let us knew.

I don't follow gaming journalism very much, so I didn't know who Ryan was. To see a thread on these forums be 20 pages long in less than an hour is a testament on the person he was and how much he was respected and loved.

See my comment above. Stop being selfish. It's not about you or the community, asking them to release information they're not comfortable in releasing just to have your own self centered closure is rude and needless. They'll release it when they want to release it.
