Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

how do you deal with it? do you need surgery or some kind of plastic s#it in your nose when sleeping?

Usually people wear a mask that helps them breathe. You can also have surgery to help.
Also avoid sleeping pills/things that make you sleep deeper, lose weight, and don't smoke. And don't sleep on your back.

At least that's what I recall my friend telling me.

CPAP is the mask you're referring to. It's a positive pressure device that basically pushes air into your lungs - regulating rate and depth of breathe.

Man, this thread is up again. =(

The other day I was ready to listen to the new podcast so I fired up itunes and began downloading, then I minimized it. After it finished, and without looking at it, I just hit the play button from my keyboard and suddenly Ryan's voice was there mid conversation abot some dumb thing. Turns out itunes was set to only keep unplayed episodes and it started playing one I had from a few months back that I never finished listening to.Took me about 4 or 5 seconds to process what was happening, but I just felt so, so sad.

You are still sorely missed, Ryan.

Yeah he did wear that mask stuff

But the only thing that really got him to dream properly was another mask

As long as this thread is being bumped, I will say that in the wake of Ryan's death, GB has been on fire - in a good way. The content has been great and the crew in general has been doing very well in general.

The standing ovation that Ryan got at the GB panel at PAX hit me right in the feels.

Just a heads up, the mods (and a lot of users) didn't appreciate this the first time 'round.

A lot of Ryan's close friends read this board, so no need to pry unnecessarily.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with curiosity about how one of your favorite entertainment personalities died as long as it's not disrespectful.

Holy shit how am I just seeing this now? I even visit giant bomb weekly (the video page) and never even knew this happened. This is actually crazy. RIP brother.
Anyone have a good roundup of tribute videos/podcasts etc?

There's a great video on the site called "That's So Ryan," and the podcast they did directly after is great too. The "This Year" podcast (which does megapodcasts, basically "best of"'s) did a tribute one as well.

Yeah, definitely do not sleep on your back or on your stomache. I get dizzy whenever I do that, it's seriously awful. I have to sleep on my sides every night for 2 years now.

Miss this guy so much... the bombcast just hasn't been the same without him. Jeff is such a shitty host.
The bombcast won't be the same, but Jeff soldiering on deserves some respect. He's trying.

I couldn't do it if I were him, I'd be in Panama or something

Seeing this thread pop up turning knots in my stomach.

I know. I saw it pop up and it made me feel like shit all over again. Let's at least have something that makes us smile here.

*also, don't talk shit about Jeff. Mind your manners, where the hell do you think you are right now?*

Cards Against Humanity's whole panel at PAX Prime was a tribute to Ryan.

Why can't you sleep on your back?

Sleep apnea can cause death? Wow I had no idea. I think one of my relatives mentioned that he had sleep apnea and I took it as no big deal.

It stops you from breathing during sleep, so yes it is very dangerous.

I disagree very much, Jeff is an awesome host.

its only "fire" cause of patrick, admitting himself on last weeks coffee time, is overworking himself

its not like anyone in SF has come up with any new shows to replace the ones they stopped doing which made up multiple hours each week and everyone already hated Daily DOTA so now having another show playing Dark Souls, doesnt equate the variety Patrick has been doing.

the board game they played was great but yet again as it nears the end and everyone was saying how great it was and cant wait to do it again, possibly each week.... Matt Rorie starts complaining that HE doesnt want to do it more than twice a month, guess you got alot on your work week between pretending to read the chat and everytime one of the guys sarcasticly reminds you thats you're job by saying "any questions from the chat" you just look down and say "oh what? oh yeah they aint really saying anything" then go back to complaining that whatever game the guys are playing doesnt appeal to you or isnt your type of comedy, overtly sighing the entire time, and tellin Jeff to end a UPF cause you got plans at 6pm right?

couldnt even fill up your movie podcast this week without complaining about no good movies being out and so lets now talk about how we wont even be doing that for a few weeks either.

The last few UPFs have been fantastic, there's been a flood of fantastic premium content the past few weeks, Rorie recently said that they'll be starting Pathfinder again next week and hope to do it weekly after that (the reason he said he wasn't sure if it would be weekly was because Ian had a site to launch and Dave doesn't work in the building) and there have been a good number of quality quick looks over the last month.

You seem to just hate Rorie for some reason.

I can't believe I still think about Ryan every day. I've had family members die who I haven't thought of for this long, usually it gets much better by now, but damn. Anyone else in that boat?

I have a feeling something big is going to change at GB soon.

You seem to be mad for no reason.
Pretty much agree with him on Rorie, though. I was happy when he joined but I've noticed the things he pointed out a hell of a lot in these past weeks.

I think about him all the time too man. Maybe not quite every day, but pretty close. Such a fucking tragedy but I'm grateful for being able to experience him while I could. This coming from someone who doesn't get attached to famous people and hates celebrity-worship in general.

Regarding Rorie, Jeff said multiple times that he was hired on to do behind-the-scenes stuff, not to be on camera. Besides, this thread isn't really the greatest place to complain about him.

Was confused while reading through Patrick's Game of the Year post, haven't listened to the Giantbombcast in a while. I didn't even know Ryan had passed until today. This is sad :(

Rest in peace.

Damn - this thread getting bumped reopened some old wounds. Miss that guy -- it's not the same without him, but I know he would be proud of what guys are doing.

What a great dude. We're all lucky to have had a part of him in our lives through his work.

I hope his wife, family and friends are doing OK right now. The first holidays after losing someone you love are difficult milestones.

Gah, this thread was some serious sadness. Though there is something real poignant in how despite everyone can fight each other in other threads over their favorite 'teams' (xbox, playstation, nintendo) We all can come together and mourn when one of our own is gone. You rarely see such unified comment sections as the first several pages.

I remember wanting to start a minor health push in memory of Ryan since our hobby is so sedentary... I still wonder if it'd have been a good idea or reacted to badly.

That's a really good picture, though:

Christmas tears for Ryan.

I tried watching some old videos with Ryan in again recently. It super sucks that they are often hilarious and depression at the same time.
