Very small picture, but I'm really looking forward to seeing this transformed into a film, particularly since I believe everyone in the cast is from the original broadway cast - that's the way to do it, particularly with this piece.

I will admit that the tone of the show is a little "whiney" nowadays to me (angsty 20-somethings complaining about life, etc.), but I still love it to death even if time and age have given me a different perspective on some of it.

In any case, the film looks BEAUTIFULLY shot, and it is a bit of a shock seeing how much older the cast looks nowadays.

God damn it, all I can think of is the scene of Rent from Team America: World Police.

AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! Everybody's got - AIDS! :lol

I need to get that soundtrack.

BTW, great avatar sir!

Oh snap first in line. I know it's an easy target nowadays but I don't care. I still know all the words and I'll probably cry during the movie like I did in the play and I just don't give a shit what people think about it, I love Rent.

It will be interesting to see how it translates to the screen. So much of it depends on the energy of the live music and the huge cast playing off each other with everybody getting a chance to solo some too. Thank goodness Anthony Rapp is playing Mark and they got the original Roger too. I can't wait.

Everyone in the movie is from the original broadway cast I believe (maybe not some of the chorus members that don't have real named parts though - like the soloist in 'Seasons of Love').

EDIT1: Nevermind, it looks like that solo part has been given to Joanne in the movie, but I could have sworn it was done by a chorus member in the stage show that didn't have a lead role in the show.

EDIT2: And the only cast change from the original broadway cast is Joanne. Not sure why Fredi Walker didn't do it (or wasn't asked).

I'm just dying to actually see Idina Menzel do the Over the Moon bit, since I never got to see her do it on stage (and I missed her in "Wicked" too :( ).

Is the orignal Mimi in this? From the trailer it looks like she's not or at least not the one I'm used to. I got the original broadway cast recording along time ago and her name is Daphne-Vega something( she was in Wild Things along with Kevin Bacon as a cop).

Anyway, I hope she's in or they get someone to really sing as she is a major character and in one of the core realtionships of the play.

Oh damn, yeah, I completely missed that when I was reviewing the cast, it's not Daphne Rubin-Vega in the movie. That's rather dissapointing as I think Vega simply nailed that part and it really comes across in the recording as well, which can sometimes be tough to do.

Oh well, here's hoping this girl they have for Mimi (she apparently was in Sin City, dunno, haven't seen that) is up to it. I am stoked Idina Menzel came back for the movie.

EDIT: After visiting Daphne Rubin-Vega's official site I think I can see why she's not in it. There was an interview with Chris Columbus (director) about how he met with the cast members to make sure they could still play the age of the characters. Judging by the gallery at her site she definately can't play a 19 year old anymore. However, I don't feel most of them can play the ages of the characters anymore (Adam Pascal as Roger for one looks alot older IMO). However, aside from a reference in one of the songs where Mimi says she's 19 I don't believe any reference is made to their ages in the show (though it's pretty obvious they're supposed to be mainly 20-somethings).
