Resident Evil 4 Advice

K, I am making my way thru professional for my second run through so I'm experimenting with new weapons. For example, this time im using the Red9 instead of Blacktail. I just have one question for you experts, how do you get ammo for the mine shooter? I havent bought it yet because i dont recall ever finding ammo for it when i first beat the game, do you have to buy ammo from the vendor or does it use bullets?

thanks in advance

you'll get ammo for it as you would with any gun you have in your inventory. Just go ahead and get it (great weapon).

I dont even think I've ever used the mine launcher seriously. I mean I bought it once just to see how it's like, but that's about it.

I bought the mine thrower on pro difficulty, once the ammo ran out I never found any more ammo. Not from killing enimies or from the merchant.

You can't find Mine Thrower ammo, you can only get more by upgrading the ammo capacity.

I've been through the game like five times and I've still never bought the thing. DaddyZ, you can find ammo for weapons you don't have.

Yeah, you don't get as much as other "super" weapons, magnums for instance, mainly because it isn't supposed to be a main weapon. You're just supposed to use it once in a while if you're truely overwhelmed.

All the times I used it playing through the game it was always my third or fourth weapon. :/

As for the op, as DaddyZ said... you'll only get ammo dropped for it if you bought it.

Wrong. Again, you only get ammo if you bought the weapon.

You can find mine ammo actually. You have to have the gun in your inventory. And even if you do have it in your inventory it rarely drops.

Then how did I get to the Castle having like 20-30 rifle rounds and never having bought a rifle? Unless you're referring to the Mine Thrower specifically, but I just even whipped out the guide and it says you can't find ammo for it.

Edit: Okay, apparently the guide for the game is wrong, that's awesome. Go Brady!

I don't care what some guide says. We're the ones that played the game and bought the weapon. Rifle, TMP and Magnum ammo drop wether or not you have the weapons for it, same with handgun ammo.

Mine ammo only drops if you buy the weapon... and even then not a lot.

Hand Cannon Ammo, Mine Ammo, TMP Ammo and I think Magnum Ammo wont drop unless you have the weapon.

Shotgun/Handgun/Rifle (after a specific point) will drop anywhere.

Some guns--the handgun(s), shotgun(s), and rifle(s), and TMP, you get ammunition for whether you have them or not. Other guns--the Mine Thrower, Magnum, etc, you only get ammo for if you have them in your inventory. And you get fewer rounds as well. Ammo for the 'normal' guns is always more plentiful.

listen...after I beat the game I started over and bought the mine thrower. Got to the village and after killing a handful of zombies I got a big green box with the caption "mine bullets"...so whatever you read was wrong. And when I said inventory I was specifically talking about the "mine thrower".

TMP and Magnum ammo definetely drop without having the weapon. I never buy a Magnum until the Killer 7 becomes available, and last playthrough I had maybe 20-30 Magnum rounds already when I bought it.

It's mainly the Magnum, Mine Thrower, and
Handcannon
. You pretty much never find ammo for those unless you've got one on you. The other ammo types drop even if you're not carrying them.

What's weird is that on the playthrough where I finally tried the Mine Thrower, I was getting a ton of ammo for it. Not enough so that I could use it exclusively, but it was still pretty frequent. Didn't much care for the gun itself, though. The mines themself took way too long to actually explode, which made it more or less useless in close quarters.

Correct.

You may be right but I dont remember getting TMP ammo from fallen enemies. I always get em from nest. Magnum ammo I have NEVER seen dropped without me having the gun.

GC version BTW. I wonder if its different for the ps2 version.

On regular, I managed to make it through most of the game with only the punisher and shotgun (sold everything else to get the Typewriter)...maybe the same can be done on Professional. Save cash and ignore the sniper rifle (not the automatic one...that's useful later on), mine launcher (ammo placements do increase if you buy it, but barely-I had to drop a ton of cultists just to get some), and TMP.

2 gigantes
you can get some from a barrel

the mine thrower is a great weapon for when you're in a tight spot with little amo. and hordes of enemies. zoom in on a couple in the center and KABOOOM. take out the stragglers with the handgun. it's beautiful. but you only realize the true genius of the mine thrower when it's upgraded to *exclusive, which is a shame. homing explosive darts, BITCHES! sell that stupid scope, and freeball, baby. i <3 the mine thrower, deeply.

I like the extended explosion range but I HATE the homing ability. I like to be able to put mines exactly where I want them. :D
