Like Soul Calibur 2, i'm getting disc read errors saying i need to insert back in the disc. I get this message every now and then after i get a gameover, or whenever i start a new chapter.

The problem might stem from the fact i hav a first model Gamecube:(

Make sure your GCN is well-ventilated; sounds like it might be overheating. Also, check your lense for fingerprints, dust, etc.

I have a U.S. launch GCN and have had no DREs with RE4.

That sounds more like it. A GC problem as opposed to a RE4 problem.

Only problem I've had is no sound in the cutscene where
Leon gets injected and tied up
.

Have had no DREs with either Soul Calibur II or RE4. I would assume, because it is on two games, that there is an issue with the GCN.

Not particularly... damn near every EA Xbox game has given me DDE's at one time or another. NFS1 got so bad I never played it again. Other than that I've never gotten a DDE error on any other game.

Back on topic, never had a DRE error on either RE4 or SC2 (import) or any other GC game. FYI, modded launch GC.

I have a launch GC and don't have that problem infact I never had a DRE on any GC game.

Maybe, just maybe, your gamecube isnt right. What do you think? Just MAYBE! I KNOW IT MIGHT SOUND CRAZY AND ALL!

I as well have a launch model GameCube and I have had no errors with either RE4 or Soulcalibur II. The only game that have ever given me any sort of problem (freezing once or twice) was Metroid Prime and that's it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's your GCN rather than your games. Neither game is known for giving DREs, however these are:

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
SSX Tricky
Metroid Prime
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
Eternal Darkness

Probably the laser... I had the same problem (I fixed it). You get the error message when the GC loads a level, a chapter, the game at the beginning, etc...

I had the same problem once. (Actually my brother, but it's the same copy of the game.)

I have disc read errors for every game, and I know it's the laser. How do you fix it? I'm almost ready to send it to Nintendo for repairs.

I have a launch GC and both games. No problems at all.
Same, and I've only ever had problems with True Crime: Streets of L.A., but that is totally the game's fault.

my Japanese(modded) launch gamecube is amazing. Only ONCE has a game locked up on it, and it was a known memory bug in Metroid Prime. Never a problem with it for 4 years.

I searched for the pics but couldn't find any... but here's a a guide about how to do it:

And this pic should help you to find the potentiometer...
