Resident Evil 4 - Got it, some questions...

I've been attacked by the chainsaw guy without even going into the house! Maybe it was second one though and not the original? You can trigger that scene without going in the house, but I don't know how I did it

When a RE4 topic came up a while ago I gave some advice about an easter egg...nobody paid attention to it though :( When you get to the lake, shoot 10 bullets into the water for a nice surprise ;)
 
Are we talking about a Chainsaw guy in the very first village? I've played through this part countless times, and I've never encountered a chainsaw guy! lol. How the heck did I miss that?! The first chainsaw guy I ever encountered was
after the big boss guy picks you up by your neck, then notices you carry the same blood as them.
 
Whoa, am I'm the only one who thought the chainsaw guy was invicible? I triggered the even when grabing the shotgun - but instead of shooting him I just tried to avoid him while killing villagers.. that was intense.
 
don't avoid chainsaw guy, make him your bitch, knock him down and shoot him in the face while hes on the ground. lob a grenade while he gets up. dominate chainsaw man.
 
Never really had a problem with him at the villiage. By the time I ran into him, It was at the house where I picked up the shotgun, so I just used handguns for the regulars and when Mr. Chainsaw got close, just blast him in the face with a shotgun. Knocks him down and gives you time to regroup. just keep at him, let him get close somewhat and blast to the face. He'll die pretty fast.

I'm looking forward to playing the extras in the PS2 version this fall. RE4 is at least the best game of 2005. I could play it over and over. It's damn near perfect.

I paid attention :P, replied too. It's a lot less than 10 (like 5 or 6?)...and it can be straight up into the air. As long as you're on the pier.

It was a joke :D I said 10 so that they'd count to 10, and expect something then. So when it happens after six, they wouldn't expect it :lol
 
I was able to take both Chainsaw guys in the village area with nothing but my knife because I was working on my handgun run and needed to conserve ammo. I think all of the crazy goals I set for myself in this game has made me one of the most hardened RE4 players out there. I perfected the art of "fake dash" to "knife counter" to "spinkick/suplex". I only use my gun when I fight 3 or more enemies at a time.

Sure.

Fake Dash is when you tap "forward+run" towards the direction of an enemy and trigger their attack animations. Since the AI in RE4 compensates for the speed at which you run at them, if you fake dash foward with just a slight tap you can make almost every enemy attack nothing but air leaving them open for a Knife to the Face or Legs. It is also a good tactic to halt enemies who are running straight for you who don't usually stop until they get right in your face. Since you can't move while attacking neither can near most all the Ganados and this is their Achilles heel which is easy to exploit.

Lets say you have 2 enemies a few yards in front of you closing in and a 2 more behind them trying to catch up. You only have 4-5 shotgun shells so you want them all to count. Just keep fake dashing at the 2 enemies in front of you sending them into a repeated attack loop until their buddies catch up to you at which time you can unload on all of them at the same time without wasting ammo. But my favorite is to use it on a single enemy where I fake dash and right after they swing I run up and knife them in the face and kickem down. Now all you gotta do is stand behind him while he gets back up and knife his lower legs to send him to his knees for an easy suplex. The only reason I say stay behind him is because you have slightly more time to slash them before they attack again.

This trick also works on the chainsaw ganado but I usually back away before he gets to his feet for another fake dash. Pro mode is much harder to execute these moves because the enemies are a nice amount quicker and more agile but it is still possible to pull this off.
 
OK, so I got all the way to the HAY LITTAL GIRL HOLD MY HAND PART and it's starting to suck again, jesus.

Chainsaw guy: Took almost all of my arsenal, but the first went down. Wasn't reading GAF from the first few posts, so I didn't know there was a second.

The lake monster was a cool boss battle, as was the giant...'course, it's nice that they don't give you even a sliver of a clue that you're supposed to run up and hit A to climb on him. So what did I do? I figured...hey, that tentacle thing must be tough, wtf. So I unloaded all of my TMP, Punisher, and shotgun loads into him. Didn't work. :\

But now...now...

I'm having fucking Ico flashbacks. Go to hell, escort missions. Go to hell.

The escort missions are fine. For the most part you just hide her somewhere while you do what you need to do.

Have you done the following?
The cabin with Luis
The bossfight with the Chief
??
 
I ran into Luis, but dunno about if that's what you're talking about. Haven't ran into the Chief since Ada.

...of course, I just started the escort mission bit.
 
I'm seriously amazed people have a problem with escorting Ashley. I'm not a great gamer and usually despise escort missions, but I never had a problem with her. I barely even thought of it as an escort mission as she so rarely got hurt or captured (
except when that's the point. And those are some of the most fun, intense parts of the game
).

You can kill the troll/giant guy without knowing you can jump on his back. I did first time in the way you described, as I also didn't realise.
 
Matlock you really suck at this game. You don't even hold her hand. She follows, you shoot anything that moves and tries to get her and use the enviroments to your advantage, done deal. Remember the stop/and go commands. It's intense stuff.
 
It's not that the escorting is hard, it's just that when it comes up in any game, I have an involuntary reaction to say "fuck you game" and get rid of it ASAP. :p

Not only is it NOT hard in RE4, it almost never actually gets in your way. You really don't spend that much time doing it, and you'd almost never know she is with you. Just go tell her to climb in a dumpster or something and do your thing.

wait, wait, wait... you can jump on the back of the giants to kill the tentacles that sprout out of their back? W... T... F... lol. I killed every one of them the hard way...

i'm gonna have to go back and play re4 again, but i've already got a backlog of like 6 games and now there's that best buy sale tomorrow... might be a while before i get to it.
 
And just to let you know, there are parts of the game where you won't have to escort her AT ALL, so it's not that big of a deal.

I had more problems killing
Mendez
....this one was just a matter of being able to corner fast in the small rooms. I didn't even need to freeze him (crown get!)
 
The hardest boss for me was
the Chief in the village. Was that who you meant by Salazar's right hand man? I forget. Anyway, the main reason he was hard was that the save points were set up in such a way that I was completely screwed for ammo and thought I was going to have to go bak to an old save. Even when I landed almost every shot AND used the environment to hurt him, I still had to finish the swinging bastard with my knife.

Good times.

Combination between escorting and the almost complete lack of gameplay. Played the demo of SotC, and it looks like Ico Team rectified both of those complaints with a vengeance.

$6 to experience a game, versus $30+ to do the same thing and let it collect dust on my shelf...hrrrm!

Anyhoo.

So far, the cinematic value is great. Plot's kinda retarded so far, but it's been interesting and (thank god) avoided the talky as shit route Metal Gear Solid takes. The art, graphics, and music come together to make the game pretty good so far, but the gameplay is awkward and at times just plain silly.

...'course, all of what's transpired so far (well, up to Sadler's ploto el stupido at least) has reminded me of Splatterhouse...Too bad there's not a next gen Splatterhouse in the pipeline. :(
 
I hate escort missions too but they did RE4 right. She ducks when she's supposed to, gets behind you when she's supposed to, never gets stuck in any walls, doesn't do anything stupid. So in conclusion, I know you hate it, but keep it up and you'll soon realize it's no big deal.

Heh, did you know that (after you destroy his first form) if you go up the ladder turn to the right and go and stand near the beam he can't hit you AT ALL? He just keeps attacking but it never connects, with that trick his is easily the easiest boss.

Oh, and Salazars right hand man was that predator-looking guy that you had to freeze with the cannisters.
 
from start to finish, ashley only died on me once, and that was only because of some lucky-ass dynamite throw. Escorting is far from difficult or tedius in this game, its fantastic.

hardest boss for me was the beret(sp?) guy. The claw guy (not really a boss) was also pretty freakin awesome, more difficult than final boss imo

This guy is the easiest boss I have faced throughout the game. You have a 3:00
time limit to kill him. And most people run out of ammo or time before they can
kill them. So what do you do? You can't use the environment to help. Grenades
would only hurt you too. So what do we do? Use your knife. It might sound
crazy, but it works. About 6 Knife stabs will kill him. This is easy, but,
unfortunately, most of his attacks are one hit kills. To dodge these attacks
you are going to have to press "A", "B", "L", and "R" buttons to dodge. T's not
that hard, and this guy is pretty easy. This fight is more "Fun" than "hard" so
just have fun with it.
 
Haha, I went the "easy" path when given the two directions after the cabin. Thought "hey, this is just a straight hall! Rock on! There's gotta be a catch, tho..."


The cabin was easy, but tedious as hell. I'm noting shotgun ammo is getting more sparse, and those damned plagos heads take way too many shots to down...

Now that I've lurked my way through this thread, I'm just gonna say "Hi" and go play RE4. Can't wait for the PS2 version, and hopefully the GC re-release as well. I don't care if there's just 10 minutes of new content in each. This game is worth it.

first time I met the chainsaw guy, I was hunted down like a rat.

now when I meet him, I make him my bitch for his lack of decent AI and predictable scripted events...

I like it when i'm smarter than some AI opponent.
