Resident Evil 4 (PS2) Premium Edition

also note that this premium edition isn't another gamestop exclusive edition. capcom themselves are releasing this one

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/residentevil4/news_6130322.html

According to a Capcom rep, a limited edition version of the PlayStation 2 game is also planned, although specifics like box art, final price, bonus features, and even a definite release date have not been finalized just yet.

that said, bring on the superior version BITCHES

For the price of a full game instead of 39.99...

...still don't think I'll bite. Not until it's 20 bucks.

I guess they maybe produced too many GameStop tins for the GCN "Limited Edition" and decided to hold them for this.

Edit: Didn't see Wario's post.

Gah, sounds pretty lame for an official Capcom dealie.

Already got the making of DVD and crap so unless that Cell and Tin is the bidomb then I'll stick with the regular edition. Now what they NEED to do is include the actual game soundtrack then I'll be happy.

if you're cheap enough you can just download the making of video at gametrailers... unless they make a new one for the ps2-version.

I'd like to see the 'Making Of' thingy, but I can do without it. I'd rather know what they added to the game itself besides a new weapon and more Ada cut-scenes. One of the guys from EGM made it seem like a big thing.

The inevitable GC rerelease with the PS2 extras? Actually forget the rerelease they should take a lesson from Konami and SH2 and add the extras that were added to the later other system port to the elcheapo version (ake Greatest Hits for PS2 Players choice for GC)

looks like I'll be buying RE4 again.

That makes 3 "rebuys" for me this year.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance
Ninja Gaiden Black
Resident Evil 4 (PS2)

What can I say, these guys own my ass, and are the 3 of the best games ever this generation.

I missed out on the Tin editions and extras, so the making of DVD and stuff would be new to me, but I do love that soundtrack idea. It was pretty kickass having the soundtrack of Silent Hill 3 come with the game standard.

agreed, the other two are on my list too.

I already got it. :O

Hey, this is pretty much the same stuff from the GC special edition. I was wondering if Capcom was going to hook PS2 people up with it.

Will history repeat itself? Capcom, in the spirit of stupidity, announced the PS2 version shortly before the Cube version's release, presumably in order to kill potential sales (back-stabbing internal politics?).

Will (the anti-PS2 faction of) Capcom try to sabotage the new version's sales by announcing a Gamecube "Director's Cut" version shortly before the PS2 version's release? Stay tuned!

Perhaps, but releasing a game into a PS2-centric audience seems to be all that matters at this point. Such sabotage is more inlined to those that can have a choice between PS2 or GC in the first place by being a multiconsole owner. They're trying to tap interest into an PS2 audience that would potentially buy it if it's on PS2 who might have otherwise been indifferent to it since it was only on GC before.

If it sells, it sells. With so much time and effort spent into it, RE4 needs a bigger audience both from the GC and PS2 sides.

Pretty obvious that Capcom considers the PS2 release the "real deal".
I don't know, they also offered a 20-page art book "Resident Evil 4 Prologue", a limited edition numbered laser cel art of Leon Kennedy, and a metal Collector's Tin case as well as a soundtrack CD with the special RE4 edition for GameCube .

except that was all from gamestop

and wasnt the soundtrack just music from the RE movies?

Damn, I really missed out on this. How much was all this?

Gamestop may have packaged it and been the exclusive carrier, but you're telling me that they made all those extra materials without Capcom involvement? I guess Gamestop made another nice limited edition laser cell for this PS2 release.

$59.95

"The inevitable GC rerelease with the PS2 extras?"

Sorry but the GC can't handle the widescreen. More barrels, true widescreen, flushed out story, more content. What more can a gamer ask for? This is definitely the real deal!!!

Meh, I don't know if the special packaging from Gamestop for RE4 was really worth it. Not only was the music CD from the movie(s) RE soundtrack(s) but wasn't the "art book" the same small one you could get for free from ordering RE4 directly from Capcom? Also the tin with the embossed "Gamestop" doesn't help all that much. Meh, they (or Capcom) could have come up wtih a better "LE" version. I sure hope Nintendo does something really nice with the "LE" version of LoZ:TP, like a true OST. :-\

The Gamestop special edition wasn't that great. Hell, I don't even keep the game in the tin case anymore.
Yeah, I didn't shell out for it either. But really, what's the difference in the PS2 version? It's the same stuff, just a different cel (I'd rather have the Leon one myself) and a DVD with a making-of featurette you can download on the internet instead of a soundtrack CD.

I think it's the Cube version that has more barrels, isn't it? And I certainly hope you meant "fleshed", not "flushed". Unless you're trying to say they sent the story down the toilet...

What? It's not like GameStop made them. This sounds like all the same stuff (for the most part).

It's still Capcom.

(And yeah, it was a crappy movie soundtrack.)

"Brady Games' Resident Evil Prologue"

excuse me but what's that ?

A simplified plot analysis of all the RE games before RE4, except for the Outbreak games. But then, since this is a PS2 title, they might drop Zero from the prologue and throw in the Outbreaks instead.

I have a feeling the PS2 version will have a subtitle in Japan...

No, just misplaced naming of screenshots, it was just the Tokyo Game Show 2004 trailer that had the 1 barrel illusion, they moved Ashley more to the left latter on.

Here are the screenshots from the GC trailers and PS2 screengrabs I took released at E3 2005:

GC Note how she is leaning just on air.

PS2 Now see how she moved back more, and leaning on the far left barrel.

Hi reirom, welcome to GAF!

wtf, there's not actual discussion on "more barrels" as a sales feature or a mark of a superior game revision, is there?

Oh my fuck. :-\
