Resident Evil: Code Veronica is Being Remade & Deep in Development. Target of Release is First Half 2027 (NateTheHate)

It'll be the best RE Engine remake so far.

RE2R lacked a good scenario system and RE3R lacked some explorable locations.

So CV Remake can easily take this.

I feel like this will be a polarizing remake. One side that loves it, another side that hates everything removed. Steve will probably have a different personality and they'll be changing stuff that they feel is not good for today. RE4 was the perfect remake so far, it'll be hard to top that. I'm really looking forward to it. I loved code Veronica. I hope they learned their lesson from RE3; although this is a different team I believe.

since RE9 is getting dual camera options, and this is being release after RE9 so I hope we get atleast dual cameras in 3rd person, and fixed camera or even 3rd option in first person. 3D backgrounds have they advantage.

Glad we are getting a remake of the real Resident Evil 3. And I bet it will be done as a direct sequel to Resident Evil 2 remake.

This has a ton of potential to be remade into a gold standard RE title, so I have high hopes.

In today's age, I wonder how they'll address (pun intended?) Alfred/Alexia cross-dressing thing. I'd imagine they're too chicken shit to replicate it with today's gaming press…

Just for leakers in general, I'd cancel it out of spite

I really want this one in the Remake mold. This game has some serious nostalgia for me -- Dreamcast, first fully modeled game, etc. -- but I hope the story works.

So much potential to improve in areas that need improvement.

So much potential to throw away a pivotal storyline and make this the most polarising remake of all.

I bet they don't punish you for leaving the extinguisher on the island. Pussies.

Whayever happens it will be an interesting ride. CV is a great game and I'm very interested to see what they do with it.

I hope it's true. Never played the OG, and I've heard it's (the most?) dated. Imo, this one makes more sense to remake than RE5/RE6 at this point. RE4 Remake had the stellar OG to build off of, and RE2R & RE3R follow a similar template they can use for Code Veronica to modernize it. RE5 and RE6 don't have that stellar reputation AND they're not as far removed from modern design sensibilities to allow for all that much improvement. Puts them in a weird place in terms of remakes.

I'd rather get RE1 again than Code Veronica, personally, lmao. But hey, a remake of CV does sound more appealing than the original to me.

Yes, Code Veronica is being remade & deep in development. Target of release is first half 2027.
  • Code Veronica Remake started dev in the latter half of 2022, it's gotten ahead of schedule whilst Zero remake fell behind and got rebooted over a year ago
  • Same staff from RE2R/RE4R are working on it like Anpo and Kadoi (Also Hirabayashi).
  • Rockfort Island has been made semi open-world, & Claire can travel around the island on a motorcycle she repairs early on.
  • The game is being treated as a sequel to RE2R story-wise and mechanically (presumably gameplay wise).
  • there's a focus on making zombies scary, leaning into the grotesqueness of them, a few to name are zombies rising out a grave with maggots over them, zombies with blown parts off from the bombing, zombies that have been twisted as part of experiments & torture methods)
  • Capcom knows the voice acting memes from OG CV, even though that wasn't the original games intent they still kept the funny moments whilst making it serious (It has to be FATHEEEER).
  • Wesker plays a bigger role in the game & will appear more, because the H.C.F. have been promoted to a main story element which will see serious expansion in the remake.
  • -Steve's not as much of a pervert as he was, but still doesn't understand personal boundaries and he still has a crush on Claire.
  • No enemies were cut, some were greatly reimagined.
  • The Gulp Worm has some moments similar to Grave Digger in OG RE3 as a "Sorry" from Capcom for not including him in RE3R.
  • Chris' role is still very much in the game, Capcom knows many fans are excited for Chris' first appearance as his younger self in the remakes. However, this is very much Claire's game still.
  • Chris vs Wesker isn't a cutscene anymore (Very much how they treated Leon vs Krauser in RE4R) its an actual boss fight but instead at a much earlier point, they both get very injured from it and Claire rescues Chris and continues the fight with Alexia (no longer Chris' fight).
  • The Nazi connections which were scrapped in the OG is leaned more in the remake.

They will ruin Alfred sadly, Ioved how Alfred was lost in the sauce because of his sister.

I think they'll mess with the cross-dressing stuff (or change it so much that it won't be nearly the same), but I suspect they'll lean into the incestuous relationship between them even more than the OG did.

If they have to cut that maybe that would be a good replacement I just remember how much I loved that this built up villian was bonkers in this strange way where he basically thought himself as his sister kinda. Split personality through trauma kinda. He needs to be intimidating and weird in a clashing way. The incest stuff could work but I just hope they make him seem off his rocker.

Absolutely baffled that the game got a 94% when it first released on the Dreamcast.

The critics back then must have been smoking some serious shit when they were reviewing this one.

Yeah .. I don't think they're touching RE5 in the current time.

What's the best version of the original Code Veronica?

The 360/PS3 'remaster' had revised lighting which makes things like fires, shadows etc look nice but it can appear very dark in places.

The OG has a more washed out look but it's faithful.

Both have their pros and cons.

If you have a PS5, you can play an up-rezzed PS2 emulated version, if you have a Series console, you can play the X360 'remaster' which is backwards compatible. Either is a fine way to play.

I think it was more of a 'next gen' shock with Code Veronica. The game was released a few months before the release of the PS2. Code Veronica was generally seen as one o the more technically impressive games on the Dreamcast outside of Shenmue. The game did have an early 'next gen' (6th gen) vibe to it. When you look at hos the game was re-reviewed with Code Veronica X on the PS2 and Gamecube, you can see how the scores were tapered down.

They better keep that helicopter scene shooting at you.

Yeah, that whole intro was just nonsensical insanity..

The true original version was only ever release on the Sega Dreamcast. It plays rather well in emulation. Arguably the best version of Code Veronica X might be the PS3 or 360 remasters. Those were remade using Capcom's MT Framework and do have updated lighting and special effects. This version is 1080p (or 720p?) at 16:9. Odd that this remaster never made it to the PC.

This sounds absolutely perfect!

Good thing they learn their lesson after RE3 Remake which I still like a lot but was definitely disappointed by it. So we'll get the expanded Gravedigger like experience and the semi open exploring that was suppose to be for RE3R before they half ass it.

No enemies being cut is very good to hear so we'll even see the Black Widow. The "greatly" reimagined parts gets me hyped a lot too as I can see massive improvements for enemies since as the Sweeper, Bandersnatch, Moth creatures, Tyrant, Nosferatu, Steve, and Alexia.

It seems to combine the best possible features like having the story change a good amount to give us a lot of surprise since it won't be a 1.1 remake while also not making it short and not cutting out any enemies.

I really think this has potential to be the best Resident Evil remake of all times. While not a lot of people view the original CV as the best but it always has that potential because of the material it had like setting, characters, enemies etc. So this Remake could very well show CV's true potential and become the best RE remake or even RE game.

That's an incredibly high bar to clear with REmake and to a lesser extent RE2 and RE4. I do think it could show the most improvement over the original though. And speaking of that, if RE6 ever gets remade, that has potential as well. The game has incredible mechanics surrounded by dogshit in every other aspect.

RE Code Veronica X is one of the best RE experiences I have ever had. It's an awesome game, whoever disagrees doesn't deserve to play another RE game in his sad miserable life.

This is how I will feel once Zero, 5, and 6 remakes are announced. I want to see lost potential fully realized.

I never specifically felt that way about CV but I understand why this is exciting news.
