Resident Evil: Extinction

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION

I don't THINK this is old... but lock if it is.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432021/

Plot: Alice fights the Umbrella Corpation and their plan to replace humankind with a race of undead clones.
---------

Me:
Seems that the only confirmed cast members are Millia as Alice and Sienna again as Jill (YES!! She was the best damn part of Apocolypse)

I know this is IMDB, but it jives with what I've read elsewhere.

It doesn't say who the director is yet; my guess is that it's going to be Witt again, since I hear Anderson is going to do AVP2 after his current projects, and Witt's movie actually was a bigger box office hit.

Extinction, previously known as "Afterlife," was written by Anderson; however, he originally intended to close the story arc that he started with his Original Resident Evil movie. He's going to finish this movie up, with the addition of the game characters, and he has plans for two more RE movies. I believe he wants one in a desert, and the other in Japan? Anyway, they are said to be even more loosey based on the games - he wants them to be "original" - from him, anyway. Wether all that stays true or not, can't say.

Anyway, is anyone else cautiously excited?
I actually LIKED Resident Evil for its atmosphere and campy horror. For it's small budget, Anderson did a pretty good job - his strongest work is building suspense and tension in small, tight cooridors. Apocalyse was good enough because of its game tie-ins and laughable entertainment value, cheese action and TERRIBLE quick-cuts during fight scenes and all, and Sienna Guillroy, of course. She kicked ass as a hot, shallow-Jill; though I'd prefer a bit more depth in her.

Anyway, thoughts?

I'm one of those people who you know -- don't hate life and go into a movie open minded to have some fun and not try to over-critque every single thing.

Having said that, I thought the previous RE films were okay, certainly not a waste of time and because of Mortal Kombat 1 (the first MK movie adaption) I'll always be a fan of Paul WS Anderson. And I liked his other directorial project: Event Horizon.

I found the movies entertaining because they retained some elements from the games.

But entertaining doesn't always equal good or full of quality...

I love Event Horizon and dig P. Anderson's personality....but after AvP and RE2, its hard to be openminded about his future projects

.....oh, I'm one of the two guys on earth who liked Soldier BTW

Umbrella Corpation has a plan to replace humankind with a race of undead clones?

What a stupid plot, first of all how can a business run when the human race is extinct

Who are they going to sell products to?

I thought 1 & 2 were pretty good, both recieved too much hate. They weren't perfect (or even special), but they were definitely worth a watch.

Yeah. Lame.

Agreed, but I think its the whole angle of "giant power-hungry corporation turning into an Empire."

If your the board member of the most powerful business conglomorate in the world, what else is there?

TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION with a ZOMBIE QUEEN and ZOMBIE SUBJECTS

and Sienna Guilroy as your zombie jester dancing around all day in a tight black shirt and blue tube top

a shame George Romero's version of RESIDENT EVIL will never see the light of day.

Sure, it might have sucked... but could it really have been worse than Anderson's?
I mean, the man is the fucking reason the series was made- and they had the balls to 'let him go'? Wow.

Technically RE2 was not directed by Anderson, only written. AvP was unofrgiveable though, and before that film I considered myself a cult fan of his work. The first RE was damn fun, even if it did shit on a legacy (though despite what many internet nerds will tell you, RE the games are not particularly artistic either).

If you're one of those people who HATES HATES HATES RE the movie, I probably don't like you. If you're one of those people who can chug a beer and appreciate the campiness of it all, then you're my kind of people.

WTF good would that do for Umbrella exactly? :lol And my soul weeps for Castlevania. :(

Damn, I was hoping this was a new RE. :( Could care less about the movies. The first one was passable, but jesus, the second was an abomination.

In a way I think Romero's version would have been less faithful to the games. He just took the setting and characters and made his own flick. It might have been an interesting vision, but having read the script I totally understand why Capcom canned him.... it wasn't an exciting vision of the games... it was a wierd Romero flick.

I think LotD proves that not everything he touches turns to gold. Not that it was bad, but I swear it wasn't much better than 'RE the movie' caliber. Witty tough guy dialogue notwithstanding, it was pretty much "rock techno, guns and zombies" just the same.

I just have to say that, because even as a Romero fan, I've had to endure RE fanboys telling me his version would have been "SO INTELLIGENT" compared to the "ABSOLUTE SHIT" we got. Barely, I think.

Oh, and lets not forget... Anderson is also directing Castlevania :)

I think it will work. Castlevania demands a little cheeze :)

Despite how lame video game movies are, I can tolerate RE movies. Thank god they killed off Michelle Rodriguez in the first movie.

You people can defend campy horror movies all you'd like, but someone explain how a corporation killing off all humanity benefits.

I tried too in my early post.

It's not about the coroporation, its about the power-hungry people behind it, wanting to rise to power.

You buy assets, you buy government officials, you buy military might... and then you organize a coup, and then look, now your the head of your own Empire.

Whats the difference between a powerful corporation and an empire, really?
Nothing besides in name, if you want to be an extreme liberal...

So, while I know nothing, I can just see it has a hostile government take over.

Though who would want to RULE a land full of zombies is beyond me... but hey, when your rich and bored and crazy... better to rule mindless slaves, then slaugther everyone, I guess.

agreed

I think I actually like "Afterlife" as a better subtitle then "Extinction."

Here we go again, more mindless action and exploisons.

Man, if Witt is directing again, I really hope he learns to zoom the camera out a bit more, and can it with the quick cuts.

Nolan had the same problem with Begins, and I hated it.

I actually enjoyed the previous two movies. I am not going into the movies thinking they are the GREATEST FILMS EVER!!! I am just going to watch them for enjoyment.

However....

If he fucks over Wesker the way he did nemesis, there WILL be hell to pay.

As for Romero...That script sucked. It wasn't good at all.

Im actually in the like the first one and thought the second was crap camp ... really I only saw RE2 once in theaters but come on everytime the zombies would come on to the screen the camera would get all blurry trying to create fear and fail miserably ...

although ... someone please explain the ending of RE2 to me ... since i dont know how to do the hightlighting thing im just going to give a

****************SPOILER WARNING HERE ********************

... when alice wakes up after she died or whatever and leaves the umbrella complex ... all she does is look at the guy through the TV screen and he dies. Is she infected now with T-Veronica? WTH?

i'm the other guy who liked soldier...

thought AVProyally sucked, except for the giant swing... but i liked RE2...

I disliked both films, but thought the ending of the first film was very, very cool.
The first was at least watchable, but the second was laughable (IMO).

I haven't seen the first RE, but Apocalypse totally stunk (it deserved worst movie of 2004). I actually had more fun watching AvP, which isn't saying much.

How could you guys call yourself fans after watching that movie? It was more or less a hacked-up plot of 2 & 3. I think i swallowed my own vomit when i saw REAL zombies in the movie (zombies that were NOT infected w/ the T-virus).

The virus reanimates dead cells... Thats why we have crimson heads...

Wasnt he fired because his directing sucked? I mean.. SEE WHAT HAPPENED TO LAND OF THE DEAD

Zombies don't pop from graves in RE1... And there's a graveyard ya know.

I thought they did in RE3 & CVX...I may be mistaking though.

But...just cause they didn't, doesn't mean they can't~~seeing as though we have Crimson Heads and such~~.

You can add me to the camp of people who enjoyed the first movie and thought Apocalypse sucked total ass!

Either way, I'll see this movie anyways because I've decided to see all (or almost all) video game movies in theaters. If anything, it'll be better than Bloodrayne (or any other Boll movie for that matter.)

Come on guys. It cant be that bad. At the very least, it's not being directed by Uwe Boll (thank you lord!!!)

I wish it were, because then it'd be a financial disaster of epic proportions and no studio would greenlight a sequel.

they made ashamed to have been a RE fan, and HotD (thank god I've yet to see it) has really made me realize how awful a movie can get.

I totally disregard the movies and it's entirety. Silent Hill is the new winner.

Comingsoon.net posted a story at the start of the month saying Russell Mulcahy (The Shadow, Highlander) will direct the new movie. It sounds like the zombie clone storyline isn't confirmed and the current plot is actually unknown, so you guys can end your pink panty meltdown about it.

Considering how bad most zombie movies are, I don't see why people rag on the first RE movie so much (aside from it not being based directly on the game). I also really enjoyed the second for it's camp factor and odd ending, though I do think it would have been better off if Anderson had directed it himself.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with the 3rd flick. Milla and Sienna are enough to get my ass in a seat.

I remember the last RE movie had some part where this guy was hacking into something and he typed "HACK" or something and he got in. I laughed so fucking hard.

I liked both films and hopefully the next film will be just as enjoyable overall. Sienna as Jill is more than enough of a reason for me to watch it even if I didn't like it.
